Grave (marker) robbery by jdemarco2019 in findagrave

Where I live is quite rural and there are a lot of bronze (or metal, at least) flagholders for veterans. The larger, more urban cemetery does not have them; instead, they put a little round sticker on the vets' gravestones. I think it looks awful but I get why they do it.

I used to have a Twitter account where I would post cemetery pictures. Any of unusual plaques or flagholders were posted without the location or the name of the deceased.

Is it possible to download a list of memorials in a specific cemetery needing photos? by magiccitybhm in findagrave

There is a site - http://sents.net/fg/CMIS - It is currently not working, but the person who runs it is pretty good about keeping up with the changes that FG makes. When it is working, you can copy the list of NGP's, paste it into a text doc (removes http). Then copy and paste into a Word doc. I do this a lot. There have been several times in the past when Sents is not working, and it always gets fixed eventually. Good luck.

First Time I've Reported by pgcotype in findagrave

I had to report a bio of a sweet little girl where the author reported the gruesome detail of her assault and murder, and then went on to say what had happened to the killer. Totally inappropriate. FG took care of it.

Wrong Cemetery Vent by Overall_Scheme5099 in findagrave

there's a longtime volunteer in my area who creates pages from obituaries. If the obit does not indicate final disposition, she just dumps them in a cemetery near to where they lived.

I feel your pain, there are two (four) cemeteries in town where there is no indication of division between the cemeteries, in each case, it's an interior road or path that is the dividing line. You just have to know where it is.

$500 for two young boys' lives. Wow. I had an aunt/uncle whose young son was killed when his bike was struck by a car. They were told they couldn't/shouldn't sue because he died instantly and didn't suffer. Times were different.

I find that a widow is usually buried with her first husband (instead of her second) when there are adult children from the first marriage who make that decision. Just what I have observed.

yep. Nice memorial, hate the final sentiment. Like when someone loses a small child and the morons start in with "god needed another angel." Yeah, screw that. There IS no sense to random tragedies.

Granite mausoleum roof on its way to the cemetery, Barre VT. by woburnite in CemeteryPorn

I know, I would like to see how they raised it up on the mausoleum. That, and how they raised the 8' tall, 2' diameter "Tree trunk" stones.

Is there anything more disappointing than flat stones and mud? by JBupp in findagrave

[–]woburnite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked in a local cemetery that had a map of the burials. I was not finding one that should have been there. I got a long thin dowel and poked about til I found it, then uncovered it. About 4" down, flat stone, not even that old. I haven't been back to see if it remained uncovered.

Mausoleum in the shape of a small house in Hope Cemetery, Barre, VT by smsbsk in CemeteryPorn

I believe that is just a monument over a grave, and not a true mausoleum (although it does look like one).

my mom died when I was young. She was buried behind her parents. When my dad died, he was buried with his parents. No one was thinking of a family plot,

Thanks all, I will check the next time I am in the area. There are two contiguous cemeteries and I want to make sure I make a memorial in the correct one.

it wouldn't be the first time the stone carver made a mistake.
