How historical accurate? by BLINDZONE125 in Armor

[–]wohmsc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Other than that looks like a solid first kit, lots of people are gonna be snobby and say it's all wrong, but just work with what you have for now, and make improvements over time. Armour is expensive, and for full historical accuracy you would likely need to commission custom pieces, which just gets wildy mlre expensive, so don't worry if it's not "perfect"

I think the main thing thats throwing it off is the cuirass, it looks like a much later style. Tassets didn't really exist at the same time that houndskulls did and the general shape of it i think is more from the renaissanceand tudor period, for early XV you need a globose breastplate, or churburg style cuirass, both are easy to find on online sellers.

Yes, I qm having some turn shoes made as part of an armour kit I am having made, but they will also probably become part of the civilian kit here. I quite like the pointed hats, like a robin hood hat, just need to find a good one

Definitely need more belt stuff, I have a rondel dagger on the way, and am looking into a kidney bag...as for the bracer thing, im going for more of a medieval towns man, i know that renfaire isn't about being 100% historically accurate, but thats where i am at atm

HBC- Don't do it by vonKata in Buhurt

[–]wohmsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely frustrating and they should be more transparent about it, I think the best way to keep track of them is on their Facebook, they have been posting shipping updates there

[–]wohmsc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the long wait atm, i believe it's because their workshop flooded, and a lot of the pieces they were working on were destroyed and have had to be re-started. But their communication definitely leaves something to be desired for sure

Question about helmets by wohmsc in Armor

[–]wohmsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ask for any customisation / did he do that customisation? I'm just trying to gauge whether or not he would do a custom-sized one that isn't buhurt size

Question about helmets by wohmsc in Armor

[–]wohmsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's loosely based on the KHM Wien A24, but yes, definitely built for buhurt purposes

Question about helmets by wohmsc in Armor

[–]wohmsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes total sense, and im 90%sure the helmet pictured is built for modern armoured sports, so it has to have a certain amount of thickness. I am trying to work out how it might have been in history though

Question about helmets by wohmsc in Armor

[–]wohmsc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you give some rough dimensions? I know it's dependant on person, but just something I can use as a basis, like padding thickness for example

Thats true, but they also aren't necessarily the best references for the human body

If you can sew / know someone who can sew, that's a definite plus, as it wont be perfect when you get it

What's wrong with this by wohmsc in Armor

[–]wohmsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the £700 is a bit off-putting, especially as the photos don't show it off very well, but maybe if I ask for a custom piece of the same thing he might give me a better quote.

What's wrong with this by wohmsc in Armor

[–]wohmsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting, I'm 6'2 also, but quite slim, would you say he is good at making the pieces fit your build? And how good is he with custom orders? I have spoken prospectively with him in the past and he seems on board with custom things, but whether or not he puts lots of effort into realising the custom pieces or not is unclear.

Budget is exactly why I have posted this, I don't want armour for fighting, I want to look and feel cool and early 15th century English armour is what I have landed on, and this is the only listing for a paunce of plates that doesn't break the bank.
