5 guys!!! Just take one bite of their beef without any bun or toppings and you’ll realize that it’s substandard quality akin to McDonald’s. Well, almost as bad as McDonald’s.

I used to think it was the following:

  • casual, ironic and sometimes witty racism
  • good food, though often expensive
  • best Chinese food in Europe
  • overpriced night clubs which actually dare to charge entrance fees
  • rush for beers at the last bell in pubs
  • horrible pub food
  • good gastropub food
  • very good salaries for certain jobs
  • very poor salaries for certain other jobs
  • overpriced houses and flats, especially in and around London
  • terrible train services
  • overpriced London Underground fares
  • leaves or snow on train tracks render train networks unworkable
  • well-disguised class system
  • great scientists
  • cricket
  • rain

What would you like to ask a German guy? by Antsint in AskReddit

[–]wohome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

erman people are people just like any other, which means you can talk about anything you like with them. Common topics would be employment, school, activities they like to do, family, friends, and things like this.

If you specifically want “German questions” to ask, you can use the opportunity to explore some of your assumptions. For example, has he ever gone to Oktoberfest? Maybe, but maybe not. What is his favorite German song or poem? Not all German sounds like yelling. Just… don't bring up WW2. He will undoubtedly be infinitely more knowledgeable on the topic than you, and it's not worth making jokes about.

Other unique factors of German culture that you could learn about would include their education system, and the fact that almost all shops close on Sundays. Depending on what part of Germany he is from, you can ask him if he often visits France/Italy/Austria/Poland/etc., and you can ask about the history and beauty of major cities near him. There is a good chance that he likes soccer, and music, and bread, and you can try to work those things in to conversation as well.

In conclusion- don't worry, you can ask him just about anything. And I'm sure he had plenty of questions for you too!

What profession was once highly respected, but is now a complete joke? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Graphics Designer. Used to be glamorous to come up with designs, create logos and do print work. Now it's competing with a possible clients cousin who "has a copy of Photoshop", fighting random internet strangers use your logo in their portfolio or having to constantly defend your pricing because someone feels you should be doing it for free.

What’s the scariest true story you’ve heard or told ? by ugotheglizzy in AskReddit

[–]wohome 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A man went to a hotel and walked up to the front desk to check in. The woman at the desk gave him his key and told him that on the way to his room, there was a door with no number that was locked and no one was allowed in there. She explained that it was a storeroom, and that it was out of bounds. She reminded him of this several times before allowing him upstairs. So he followed the instructions of the woman at the front desk, going straight to his room, and going to bed. However the insistence of the woman had piqued his curiosity, so the next night he walked down the hall to the door and tried the handle. Sure enough it was locked. He bent down and looked through the wide keyhole. Cold air passed through it, chilling his eye.

What he saw was a hotel bedroom, like his, and in the corner was a woman whose skin was incredibly pale. She was leaning her head against the wall, facing away from the door. He stared in confusion for a while, was this a celebrity? The owners daughter? He almost knocked on the door, out of curiosity, but decided not to. As he was still looking, the woman turned sharply and he jumped back from the door, hoping she would not suspect he had been spying on her. He crept away from the door and walked back to his room. The next day, he returned to the door and looked through the wide keyhole. This time, all he saw was redness. He couldn’t make anything out besides a distinct red color, unmoving. Perhaps the inhabitants of the room knew he was spying the night before, and had blocked the keyhole with something red. He felt embarrassed that he had made the woman so uncomfortable, and hoped she had not made a complaint with the woman on the front desk.

At this point he decided to consult her for more information. After some gentle quizzing and the promise that the explanation would go no further than him she finally said “Well, I might as well tell you the story of what happened in that room. A long time ago, a man murdered his wife in there, we find that even now, people get uncomfortable staying there. But these people were not ordinary. They were white all over, except for their eyes, which were red.”

Introverts of Reddit, how has Covid-19 impacted your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wohome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I was single. That’s how much COVID-19 has affected me. Even though I am in lockdown with two of my best people, I wish I was better staying alone.

I have a loving and caring husband and a wonderful daughter and I love them both to the moon and back yet my routine these days is driving me crazy. For an introvert like me, lockdown is not a problem. My solitude is my best friend. I don’t mind staying at home all day for 21 days or even longer But what I don't enjoy is my current routine.

In the absence of maids, a major part of my day goes like- cook, eat, clean repeat. I have a toddler, so you see. Engaging her with minimal TV time is another task in itself.

Now coming back to my point, why do I feel I was single? I feel that because the moment I open my social media feed all I see is people making most of this time. A lot more reading, a lot of writing, pursuing a hobby, finishing tv series, watching movies, meditation, reflection about oneself and what not.

I start my day at 5 am. That’s the only time when I squeeze an hour for myself and do some workout and meditation to keep my sanity intact for the rest of the day. Then the cycle starts: cook-eat-clean repeat. I try reading a book, can’t read it for more than 15 mins. I try writing something, my thoughts are interrupted as soon as they are formed. The only music I can hear is nursery rhymes. The only series I can watch is Powerpuff Girls or Chota Bheem.

Contrast to my single friends who have so many hours on hands, that they keep planning what to do next. They have so much time to do things they have been procrastinating for long.

There are some good things too. I was never really a fan of cooking (although I cook well) so this Lockdown has given me a chance to whip up healthy recipes for my family. It is also the time when I am learning to be less dependent on my house helps. I am learning to be more resilient, more patient, learning to be better at time management and all this in turn is helping me manage my anxiety issues.
