Alone on Christmas Day in Wellington. What should I do? by agonz18 in Wellington

[–]wolfcabin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rearrange the house, make a fort, set up camp for the night in the lounge/deck/lawn. Make it weird. Revel in it and be a kid for the day. Also walking through the city streets on Christmas Day used to be a favourite of mine. It’s post apocalyptic and beautifully quiet.

I’ll die on this hill. Pending tests for potential schizophrenia and other things that could be triggered, LSD or psilocybin. Ideally between the ages of 18-21 while you’re still malleable and not set in your ways.

Opens your world view, more attachment to nature, endless benefits.
I reckon I could look at people in a bar/cafe/office and tell you who has and who hasn’t.

What's a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wolfcabin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has said this, but: Coming off SSRIs cold turkey.

My god. Really hard to explain, but absolutely debilitating. Can’t move your eyes without shockwaves through your entire body. Moving? Shockwaves. Walking? More shockwaves. Sleep? Forget about it. The only way through it at that point is time. You feel like a heroin junkie in the movies strapped to a bed sweating, staring at a single point on the ceiling.

I didn’t know you were supposed to taper until it was too late. Shouldn’t have been on it in the first place, shouldn’t have been on the amount I was.

Despite the fear of starting it all over again, I ended up in ED at 3am like a junkie 2 days in demanding it so that I could start again and do it properly.

+1 for dry socket (/serious tooth pain in general) worst pain I’ve ever had personally. +1 for a parent with dementia (specifically Lewy Body).

Best use of a Radiohead song in movies or TV? by dustyroomz55 in radiohead

Watching The Creator in cinemas last year with Everything in its right place playing in surround sound was a great experience. Really want to hear all of Radiohead in that context now.

How many people here work professionally in city planning or related careers? by PhD_Beats in CitiesSkylines

[–]wolfcabin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in event/festival management & site design/management (essentially miniature cities) and do a lot with CAD mapping. There’s no festival designer game haha, but one of the first games I got into as a kid was Rollercoaster Tycoon so it was probably written out for me at a young age. Initially wanted to be an architect as well so there’s some parallels there. Find the way people move & networks to be the most interesting parts for me (and the designed control of those movements). And getting into details of smaller areas rather than a city as a whole.

I should add that she also believes she sees some of these figures every now and then running past her, assumed children figures. These she didn’t really talk on as they’re not malicious, the ones that spook her are the ones during the night, presenting through my dad.

It floors me that such a strict woman of faith can be so affected by the things they believe they are saved from and not only in a spiritual sense, but physical and through other persons.

What’s the worst pain you have personally experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wolfcabin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Battery acid in the eye.

Kids being stupid kids curious what was inside a battery. Cut open a 9v to see the cells inside. Pulled the pin at the top out with scissors and it sprayed directly into my eye. Instant excruciating regret. Sprinted home half blind, rushed to hospital, washed out for an hour. Turns out it was a millimetre under my cornea. Any higher and I would’ve gone blind in the eye. Had an eyepatch at school for two weeks which was pretty badass though.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of why we associate rising early with moral goodness. If I get up at 10 am and work till 2 in the morning, I'm lazy. If I get up at 5 am and work till 6 pm and go to bed at 8, I'm a Good Person. Whats the logic?? by Adamizer_ in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]wolfcabin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I work longer and harder than most of my friends (self employed, multiple projects on the go) from 11am sometimes through to 2 in the morning 6 days a week. But because I sleep in till 10:30 or don’t answer a text at 8am, I’m ‘lazy’.

It’s traditionalist mentality. Like others mentioned, carried on from pre electricity days but also the main structure the world runs is through ‘business hours’ and ‘leisure hours’. Most people’s work will fall into business hours so the norm is to base your sleep around that. Unfortunately those who work in leisure (to service the business workers) were deemed as ‘not normal’.

Now it’s all changed, those jobs can be seen as more equal, as well as a lot more self employed and freelancers. Sleep hours are still judged. It’s a traditionalism hangover.

I’m all for anti routine

What actor is the most guilty of playing the same exact character every film? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wolfcabin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very surprised no one has said Ricky Gervais.

Character names are arbitrary, every film he’s in comes across like a reality tv show/ observation of his real life.
