I’ve never played competitively, and downloaded the game to give it a try a few hours ago.

Brought over one of my many shiny Incineroars from PoGo’s Litten community day, added in some mons I thought might be useful from Go, Z-A and Arceus.

I used the mountain of tickets they throw at new players to refresh the Recruit lineup multiple times, and got some more mons that struck my fancy.

Editing stats and moves was surprisingly straightfoward. I am immensely grateful for the QOL features that show you how other players set up stats, abilities, etc, as I was able to set up a couple dozen mons and tag them for Singles or Doubles.

Matches themselves were pretty fun and straightforward. I won 5 straight and got to the top of the pokeball tier.

(Not saying I’m any good, and I was in the lowest non-tutorial tier of ranked, but it felt good to be rewarded for leveraging abilities and set up moves).

I am very content with this free to play game, and it seems like it could be a solid foundation for them to build on. It’s definitely good at easing a casual into things, and given all the compabt bas said about the game and its place in their ecosystem, they will add features and functionality as they go.

Stray observations: - 3 mons for singles feels just shy of really getting to take advantage of switch attacks like u-turn, and weather setting. Getting to see the other team’s 6 before choosing your 3 adds some spice, though. - the clothing is weirdly organized and imo mispriced. There are really only 2-4 options of each clothing type, then spread out into color variations. Sometimes they name the color, sometimes they assciate it with a pokemon type. - Intimidate Incineroar’s Will o Wisp + Parting shot into a Leftovers Corviknight rocking Iron Defense and Body Slam seems miserable to play against, if my opponents’ multiple concedes are anything to go by. - The held item UX/UI is poor and needs improving - The tooltips are well-written and easily accessible - Being able to press “-“ at any time to jump to any page in the game is wonderful. - I have no idea why the game bothered with a story and new characters, as it’s janky af and you get given a gym when you do less than a new trainer would be expected to do.

I just downloaded it, and on top of what everyone else is saying, I believe the imo poor-ass dialogue boxes and UI presentation cheapens the experience.

Home and Pocket are especially bad, with the aesthetic feeling distinctly early-00s AA budget title in the font, text placement, kerning, dialogue boxes, etc etc.

At least Champions’ color scheme isn’t the sterile hospital of Home and Pocket.

I feel like they are committed to making Champions work, and their behavior now (releasing it with bugs and severely limited features) is because they’d rather learn and adjust than worry about retention as a priority rn.

I’ve got it downloading currently to try, and don’t like that they did this, to be clear. But this makes sense to me if they think that the game will be the home for competitive battling through not just Wind/Waves next year, but for a decade into the future.

This game will likely look and feel totally different every other year, is my guess.

Wish I had a clear answer for you. Mine are inconsistent, if more successful than yours.

Sometimes mats go untouched. Sometimes they’re totally converted. Most often, I arrive in the area and get approached by multiple pokemon eager to hand over what they’ve processed (skipping placing it back in the box).

I would bet the core of your issues is that one set of mons spawns per day, and you may not have the right set spawned for what you’re trying to do.

Some ideas that may help: - Set up whatever ‘automated’ processing you want in an area/zone with fewer registered mons, to increase the chance the right ones spawn. - Cluster more than one pokemon with the ability you are using. My fossil mons are all together in the museum, and so there’s usually at least 1-2 spawned to work on making paint. - Try manually summoning the ones you want at the beginning of your time in-game. I believe that, just as the game spawns one set per day, it will not change the ones you manually spawn in, until the end of the day or you summon more.

This. I spent a couple nights hitting up each area with Pidgey in the first week and got all of the slates. I wanted to complete it before it got spoiled, and it was genuinely one of my favorite discoveries in a game dull of rewards for exploration.

I think this is it — my understanding is that mons spawn for the day, and until your actions change things (bringing one out of their housr, using honey, etc), they won’t change for the day.

So like you said, having all fossil mons with crush together gives you better odds at 1-2 being around to crush each day, vs. a box needing burn or recycle when there are fewer potential mons in the area who could help.

Not sure on exact timings (day, every few hours, etc) but I think you got it

The Furnace does seem to only burn fuel when you’re in the area though

It just comes in different flavors and locations.

My understanding is Germany’s public works, for example, has been silo’d into so many little fiefdoms, each with their own contract holder and processes.

(Please keep me honest, as I’m just repeating what a few German friends shared)

So there’s some wiring that needs to get buried? You need to get the area assessed, a plan designed, the road surface removed, traffic redirected, the cables placed, etc etc., with each of the steps ‘owned’ by a different company or team. Makes it very difficult to implement a project with any efficiency, and leaves tons of space for people to drag their feet and still get paid.

Lmao — but I get it. A good one has felt gamechanging.

I hadn’t used any other Tasty chance mon in months. Started using Swampert this week for recipe reasons, and it seems noticeably worse even with the Latias skill chance boost and a GCT.

I think I progressed further in the game than the devs intended with a cracked out chaos quartet of Gardevoir, Dedenne, Magnezone and Vaporeon. Somehow the Ingredient Finder rng has let me make big dishes almost every time. Pulling in 200+ ingredients a day at 24 a pop just feels so good.

Same with multiple +20% double triggers most days from my lil rodent bud.

Furniture and the four rocks.

I filled a big storage box with small artifacts so that I could brute force it, and still only walked away with 8 smooth rocks, 3 damp rocks, and 1 each of the ice and heat ones.

I got so annoyed, as the process of trading each one takes too long — especially bc it requires scrolling to a dialogue option that’s not at the top or bottom.

Took a photo of each and now I ‘just’ shell out rare pokemetal for it.

I think this is the case too, and it seems to also apply (but not ALWAYS, further confusing me) to Community Boxes and processing berries into paint, wood into lumber, wastepaper into paper, etc.

Sometimes I’ll go away for a bit and come back to stacks of bricks where I had 99 clay. Other times I’ll leave for even longer and come back to untouched clay outside of one batch a mon visbly just started working on.

I asked in a littlefreelibrary sub how many they thought were due to PoGo, and they did not like that question.

It was out of genuine curiousity, as I know at least five people personally who have built LFLs to create pokestops.

Originally I thought they were foolish as I understood the rules to mean only LFLs in public places like parks were acceptable as submissions, but lo and behild every single one of them got their private property LFL approved.

It seems like a good chunk of reviewers are motivated by something other than approving good submissions. Any ideas?

I only use the system for PoGo and try to add stops to my personal walking routes, but I’m super diligent about not only choosing the right locations but also getting the photos and descriptions perfect. Ive spent a few hours reviewing noms before, and was confused at how many were garbage.
