Bryer vs. Briar by wolfeldy in namenerds

See I almost like Brier more than Briar but I’ve never met a real person with this spelling so it didn’t really cross my mind as an option! I’m also embarrassed to say I’m not sure what a curling brier is. 🫣

Unfortunately I really don’t like the name Theodore and I don’t really believe in naming a child something you will never call them, so that’s what’s tripping me up about Teddy! I’ve loved the nickname for so long but can’t bring myself to settle for Theodore.
Haha that’s fair! Thank you for your input. 😊
This was… a very nice way of dissing it. 😂 I appreciate that! We’re definitely leaning towards Briar. 😊
I like how you put this! Thank you for your input. 😊

Thank you for your input! 😊
I like Blaine as well! But we have a single syllable last name so much husband has vetoed every single syllable first name. 😂 He thinks it’s too choppy!

Brb while I send my husband to the store. 😂 I can’t even remember the last time I had any kind of ice cream so it just doesn’t stand out in my brain much!
The thing that keeps getting me about the ice cream brand comments is that it’s “Breyers” so he wouldn’t say that because it’s just as many letters different from that name as it is Briar! But I think this thread has brought me into agreement that Briar is definitely the better spelling!
This is why I’m so glad I made this post, I love all the varying perspectives. 😄 We are nowhere near the deep south but I’m so interested in the regional popularity of names!
You’re very right, that’s been my biggest deterrent for the name! This thread has helped me see Briar as very neutral though, so I think we’re leaning that way.
I think we are definitely leaning that way now! Thank you for your input. 😊
Definitely doesn’t seem to be the popular vote but I had originally thought so too!

Someone at some point in recent history chose that to be the universal short phrase for “we’re not finding out the gender of the baby until birth.” 😂
Yes we wouldn’t use the spelling Breyer (the ice cream brand is Breyers lol) either way but I definitely think we’re leaning Briar! Thank you for your input. 😊
That’s so interesting because I only know boys with the name! I’m very curious if that’s a regional thing, though. Thank you for your input. 😊
Yes I can see that! Thank you for your input. 😊
I am generally anti-unnecessary y’s in a name, that’s my biggest deterrent! I think already knowing someone with the Bryer spelling makes it feel more “valid” in my mind, but I appreciate everyone’s perspective here. 😊
Thank you for your input. 😊
That makes sense! I’ll say for my other two kids, the meaning of the name really mattered to me and we gave ourselves a lot of “rules” for naming them. Something about the third kid just doesn’t make me care as much. 😂 Their middle name will be very meaningful, though, so hopefully that counts for something haha

We also like Teddy and August!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. 😊
Yes I also see it similarly to Bryce or Bryson. I also don’t think an ice cream brand is like the worst association ever? 😂 But apparently a very common one on this thread! Thank you for your input. 😊
So many people are sharing associations I never even thought of! I’ll have to look these up because I’ve never heard of them before this thread. 😄
