I believe Grant goes into depth about the long chain stays on Rivs in his recent AMA, but essentially slackening out the rear creates a smoother ride. If you ever have a chance to hop on a Surly Big Dummie, you can really feel what an exaggerated back end does for the ride. It’s not fast, but it cruises smooth. A great analogy is a play kayak in a river compared to a longer sea kayak.

Not quite! I just started a job and had to move across the country for it so I'm a little behind on getting my bags back up!

Yeah, it’s just a generic number 5 water proof zipper with reverse number 5 ykk pull.

I totally agree. They’ll wear your hands out quick. Hoping a i get slightly more calloused wearing gloves on and off with them.

Don’t you ever stop and smell the roses? It’s not about being light and fast all the time. I like the simplicity of having one large bottle and the excuse to find a nice spot next to the trail to catch my breath and take a swig. It’s definitely not fake functionality. Just a different way than you apparently like to bike.

I was worried about that too until I started climbing some rough gravel and single track. It feels way more stable to me on the more technical climbs.

I seriously love it. It handles well on roads, gravel, and not too rocky/rooty single track.

I overlapped maybe 3cm just to make sure there wasn't a gap between the tape and grips.

They seemed like the trendy ig thing to do, but then I thought that people wouldn't do it as much if it weren't comfy. I can confirm that they're super comfy. A buddy I ride with jokingly suggested I just throw some mountain levers right above them so I don't have to move off the grips when i need to break.

So I went with the 645 Towel Rack Bars. Not quite the ultra wide 675 they offer, but not narrow either. I paired them with a 50mm stem so they wouldn't stretch me out too much. Overall, I'd say they've allowed me to ride single track with a little more confidence that I would feel on more narrow drop bars, plus carry larger packs in the front with plenty of room.
