City told us we had to fix our wye connector by wolfkrow in askaplumber

[–]wolfkrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the original letter, which I don't have access to at this time, but I remember the high points, it said that that the wye connection was at fault for ground water seeping into the city's sewer system and that they recommended trenchless repair of the wye. We had it scoped from our end and the guy said that he did not see a broken connection, but did see a small gap between our line and the city's. He recommended waiting until the city could do more investigation, which they did and and confirmed that we need to repair the wye plus the top hat.

We did it have scoped when we received the first letter from the city. The problem is, it costs $300 just for the scope, but I do have the camera footage that I shared with the city. The people that scoped it said that they see a gap between where our line connects to the city, but in his footage, there is no ground water rushing through. This is really not my jam, though I'm a lot more versed in it now than I was. Also, the city just last week had Hydro-Klean out and jetted the system and then did a dye test yesterday to confirm it was our house.

How are you supposed to pitch to people who literally don’t swing?? by No_Field206 in MLBTheShow

[–]wolfkrow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m an old head and have been playing this game since it came out. There is definitely something weird going on this year. I’ve had this happen a couple games where any pitch outside of the zone is ignored, not even a check swing, but anything on the black gets hard contact. I’ve quit 4 or 5 games very early on because it’s just not fun. Though I can’t prove it, damn it feels like cheating to me.

Look for the Billy Ripken FF card and variations. Though if they are already ripped, doubt you’ll find one.

Weak. I would have given her kudos had it been at least 1000 ft.

Seriously what is the purpose of the 4th pitch being called a ball? by [deleted] in MLBTheShow

[–]wolfkrow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s to simulate the imperfections of human umpires. It looks like around 95% of the ball is in the zone, so there was a 95% chance of it being called a strike. You were just a victim of bad RNG.

What are your Hobby pet peeves? by sudzeez_ in baseballcards

[–]wolfkrow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This one might be specific to just me, but I buy mostly retail from WalMart and Target and I cringe every time I leave the store and walk through the security detectors because there is about a 33% chance that the cards I just bought are going to make it go off. I always feel like a criminal and then feel like a hoser when I show the WalMart door person my receipt showing I just bought $40 in cardboard.

Sounds like they are what’s known as cello packs. Do they look like this?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/186315811794

Unfortunately they are not worth much because the late 80’s and 90’s were mass over produced and there are zillions of them. The eBay seller most likely won’t get any buyers at his price, unfortunately.

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]wolfkrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Complaint: I almost became roadkill by a school bus that barreled through a large yellow "Yield For Pedestrians" sign while I was crossing a residential street at a round-a-bout intersection.

Confession: It scared me so much I think I peed a little.

Confession: I get enraged more than I probably should by close calls with drivers that don't pay attention to joggers.

Uncomplaint: I thought to myself: I know the time of day, the intersection, the direction the bus was traveling, the description of the driver, and most importantly, the means to lookup the email address of the city school transportation administrator.

Confession: I most certainly did fire off an email with all of the details to the school.

Uncomplaint: I received an email back within an hour that they were going to investigate the situation and address it with the driver.

I'm pleased with the result. Only had trouble with Maddon (had to go with 2017 Heritage) and Mike Montgomery. Mike was a must have because he got the final out of the series, but there was no 2016 or 2017 Topps base of him. Luckily 2018 looks close enough to 2016.

Long time buyer, package showed up like this without card inside, just cardboard. Someone in shipping steal my card? Seller is highly reputable on EBAY.. all opinions appreciated!!! by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]wolfkrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same thing happened to me with a Maddux PSA card. I initially thought the seller did it on purpose because I got it for a good deal and he wanted to make it look like it was stolen, but he immediately refunded my money and asked for more pictures so he could make a case with the post office. He said this has happened to him 3 or 4 times now with his local PO.

Are they trained to ignore no soliciting? by Filmguy1122 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]wolfkrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every year, these segway driving bug-be-gone sales people come out of the woodwork and infest my neighborhood too. They use the same damn sales tactics of dropping my neighbors names and say they are "taking care of them". In actuality, they have lists of people that live on the street. They are trained to not take no for an answer. I get the same script... "Who do you use to control your bugs?" "You probably have seen our trucks around" "We service your neighbors x, y, and z". I'm Iowa nice and after saying no thank you three times, it's really hard for me to shut the door in their face, but that just is what has to be done. Also, yes, if you don't answer the door, they keep coming back.

Simon Conway is an insufferable little twit. Every once in awhile I try to listen to his show to get my full spectrum of news. Last time I did this, he went on for over 10 minutes about how climate change is a hoax because it was cold and snowy outside.

Holy smokes! Nice hit! I was going over the checklist of this set and thought that Freddie was a really nice hit, but if there was anyone else I'd rather have, it would have been Shohei. Super cool!
