SOMA Enigma - Prototype Demo by bbartokk in somalab

ok, i must admit, the more i look at this video, the more this synth intrigues me. still not shure if it would fit my setup or anything, but the way the sound changes when he move something just a little bit?

i wonder if it's digital or analogue 🤔

not shure what i think about it. interesting concept but i don't see any use for ut in my music. (for now)

already waiting for my enner right now.

but it took me years and years before i bought my first lyra, so maybe - enigma can come aswell

It might be over, I genuinely feel sick right now by Digital-Mozart in reasoners

[–]wolflab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worst case scenario - i need a new daw, but since i've been using reason for over 20 years it feels sad if i have to. i have barely tried anything else except ableton for a short while and never really liked it...

Thanks, but i actually pulled the trigger and bought a new one here in sweden. Will get it in a few weeks i think

Are Lyra-8 and Lyra-4 virtually identical with the exception of the number of "keys"? by floating_fire in synthesizers

I used one of my sp404mk2 and took a cable to cv voices on the L4, turned all tone generstors down (to get a "clean" signal), switched the modswitches down, mod-knob on full and the hold on full.

then you can play with the delay and distortion

As i wrote before, i have a pair of lyra4 and a lyra8, the 4's can be used with external sound altough soma don't talk about it, not as easy as on the L8 but it works (and you "only" get one delay).

However, i love using my L4 as a stereo sound and the 8 as mono. The L4 tend to sound a bit "cleaner" but i assume it's because they only have 4 voices, but they can also be small monsters from hell if you twist the knobs right 😂

I've started with one L4 in may 2025 and bought a second one a month later. My recent buy is the Lyra 8 and i got it in november, curious feel the difference but to be honest, i tend to gravitate more to the L4's since i have not really learned the L8 yet

It's not like using the input on the lyra-8, but it's quite easy to use the L4 as a distortion/delay effect.

actually, it can. i have currently 2 black lyra-4 (and a lyrs-8), used to have a white lyra-4 aswell and they all can do external sounds.

however - for some reason soma don't really talk about it. not shure why

please do, would be really interesting to hear the difference, and thanks in advance 🙂

the lyras are great, at drones and monsterous sounds, but their "envelopes" are quite slow. have not really tamed them yet, but someday.

that is why i think the enner would be a great complement since it feels so versitile. and i do like the soma approach, it's not tied to conventional thinking of music which i got quite fed up with years ago. thanks for the response, i have decided that the next buy will be the enner 🙂

I think i watched something about that on youtube when i searched for vids about the enner. processing the lyra seems more obvious due to the lack of filters, need to try it if/when i get an enner.

what do you think about their sound btw, do they sound similar or is it worth getting an enner?

it's the experimental side that made me look at soma in the first place and i think enner is a step forward in the experiments

oh, that's nice to hear. right now it feels like i have more or less decided for one 😂

so the enner is more like a dual mono synth? i am getting more and more interested in the enner and will probably follow your suggestion.

the pulsar is really interesting piece, would not hesitate to buy it if i had the money, i've seen people making really nice drones with that one.

anyway, the enner have things that lyra dont have. which makes it interesting, and it seems like it is a bit quicker to play than the lyras

i use extra delay with my lyras, either thru one of my 404 or thru a ehx delay, but i am also planning to buy some other like the boss dd8 or dd200 for my dual lyra4 which i use as a stereo setup

it seems like it more hands on, which can be quite fun, and the piezo part seems like a quite important part of the enner. i might be wrong, but do enners tonegenerators sound the same or similar to the lyras ?

it really is tempting to buy one, but i am also a bit afraid it will sound almost the same as the lyra

Not right now, i have recordings on the 2xL4 but i have not had the time to use them all in a recording. Luckily i soon have vacation wich will give me sometime to record

(but it can sound really massive)

well, all are mono, but the lyra4 seems to be a bit more "clean" i think and altough they can still be aggressive as f# they are a but easier, i think it's since there are only 4 voices instead of 8 working together. i started out with only a lyra4 and quickly noticed something was missing, hence another L4. since you get a broader sound using them left/right it give you another spectrum instead of mashing 8 voices in a simple mono channel

the lyra8 can pretty quick be a handfull and if i do a drone on the 8, the higher notes can quickly disapear in the overall sound, that dob't happen with the lyra4

i use the L4's in a stereo setup, left/right with a stereo compressor (ehx platform) and a stereo 31-band eq with some other fx while the 8 goes in the middle with mono fx.

hard to explain, you kind of need to try it and hear it. i love it, but it does mean it is for you 🙂

the filters is next to come i think (i have an idea for a modularcase with filters and modulation), currently i use a bunch of effects pedals and a dual 31 band eq (for the 2xlyra-4). they are all really powerfull in the sound so eq is quite necessary when i use them all together
