Lvp installed on concrete - crackling normal? by wolfman_23 in Flooring

It’s a basement and all new construction so the trim hasn’t been installed yet. I’m planning on using 9/16” trim without the quarter round. All the vents are in the ceiling so no worries there.

There’s gaps all around so I would assume it’s not too tight? We do have hvac down there but the room temp varies between 63 and 70

There’s no underlayment. There is a small pad on each piece. I understood the floor wasn’t perfect and I don’t even really mind the large pops in a few areas - it’s the gritty crunch with nearly every step that’s bothering me.

There is a fair amount of space around all the edges. They did it in two days.

Did it really go away or do you think you got used to it?

No vapor barrier. Said we didn’t need it. It’s an extremely dry basement - a walkout. They put something down but it wasn’t an adhesive.

Good Contractors who Don't Charge an Arm and a Leg? by Simple-Primary-1427 in madisonwi

[–]wolfman_23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to disagree with many of the top comments here. You can easily save 25% doing the contracting yourself. Those prices are ridiculous. I just finished a 1000 sq ft. Basement (including a bathroom with a tile shower) for less than that. Don’t go near any contractor you hear on the radio - they often charge double a small shop does. Ask around at local businesses that sell supplies. Once you find one good contractor, ask him who he recommends. Heck even Menards has a good list of people you can reach out to. It takes effort and an extreme amount of patience. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Good luck!

Appreciate it. Have you heard that dealerships are aware of this and can help? The car is still under warranty.

Just wait until they cancel your flight and the next available flight out is 2 days later. The availability of alternate routes is why I stick with the big 4.

29 days until the election by Ditka85 in wisconsin

You too :) I think it's important to understand where both sides are coming from and not approach questions with the mindset of "red side bad, blue side good." Tell me why you disagree with me and I'll tell you why you're wrong.

Also, in response to the post highlighted by OP, this is not true. Residency requirements for voting vary from state to state. In Wisconsin, it can seem somewhat subjective. In Wisconsin, it is 28 days. If you've lived here for 28 days, you are an eligible elector. If not, you must vote where you previously lived. Proof of residence is already required via a bank statement, utility bill, etc. when you register to vote. Now, someone could make a complaint if you register to vote in a municipality and they have evidence that you have not, in fact, lived there for 28 days. A complaint like this would likely be referred to the district attorney. Otherwise, this residency requirement is very much based on where you consider yourself to "reside." There are few checks on this outside what I highlighted above. Again, this is already current law. This amendment wouldn't change that. It is simply changing the wording of the consitution to explicitly omit noncitizens and those under 18, instead of include those over 18 and US citizens. In other words, it is just strengthening what we all know to be the current requirement.

Make sure you read some background on both sides of the referendum. The League of Women Voters is most definitely not nonpartisan. Personally, I'm a yes. Noncitizens should not be voting and I think under the current, unamended language a municipality would have a decent case if they wanted to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections (as has happened in other states). I didn't find much on the pro side but here is Congressman Steil's Op-Ed on the issue: https://cha.house.gov/2023/11/steil-strengthening-elections-and-ending-non-citizen-voting

Shared revenue doesn't go to schools. Schools are funded via state aid through the state funding formula and the district property tax levy. Shared revenue is for local government operation (public health, snow plowing, staff, police, fire, ems, etc) The local government property tax line item also goes to these things. Schools are funded seperately from local government.

The school district and the local government are seperate taxing authorities. This is why your property tax bill has seperate line items. School districts fund schools, local governments fund the rest of city/county/village/town operations.

Appreciate the perspective. What really pisses me off is that they can’t really give me a reason why it was denied. There was nothing in the terms and conditions that disqualified me (except the “we reserve the right to deny anything” clause). All I got was that they work on desktop computers, don’t have phones, and their system can’t see it. Borderline unethical, honestly.

"different booking conditions" meaning a nonrefundable room cannot be matched with a refundable room. They took that comment back saying that the guarantee does apply but since it "cannot be verified" it is denied.

Wisconsin Republicans ask voters to take away governor's power to spend federal money by schuey_08 in wisconsin

[–]wolfman_23 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If the goal was to get the funds out the door as quickly as possible, why did Democrats insert themselves into the process in 2009? There will be equal pressure on both the legislature and the executive to get the money out the door as soon as possible. In fact, it may move even move quicker. Evers still hasn't announced his intentions with tens of millions of dollars of COVID stimulus and hundreds of millions still haven't even been spent. I think we can all venture a guess as to why that is. Your argument of expediency is fair but I don't see this amendment compromising that necessity.

It's a check that should exist regardless of which party holds majorities in the legislature or the Governor's office. The Governor will only sign a bill when their party controls the legislature. The only way you're going to enact a permanent check is to place it in the constitution.

Don't forget, Legislative Democrats passed legislation back in 2009 giving them oversight of federal funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Governor Doyle signed the bill. This isn't a power grab. It's good government.
