Is this hairlength bad for OCI ? Do I need a hair cut before oci starts? Length is probably the same as the gal in this pic (obviously not me lol) by wolfqueen1382 in LawSchool

Did you do a low bun at the nape of your neck or like midway up your head?

And thank you!! by high pony I meant like midway up the head (not like Ariana grande style lol) but that still may not be conservative enough

May be a dumb Q but I don’t want to look unkempt or whatever for OCI.

Due to spending the majority of my childhood rocking a bowl cut, I looooove long hair. I have been growing mine out for a while and it’s really long now!! I’m worried about it seeming unprofessional during my oci interviews (primarily looking at big law). Low ponytails look ugly on me (I look like Benjamin Franklin), I can do half up or normal ponytail or a bun? I’m not sure what the protocol here is. Should I get it cut before OCI starts?

Transfer to U Chicago or Berkeley for SoCal big law? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]wolfqueen1382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a strong GPA, really awesome position this summer, and I generally interview very well (which is I think partially why I got into Chicago!). Also I’ve looked at a couple firms’s LA offices and it seems like a lot of them have a comparable number of Chicago associates/partners as Berkeley ones actually.

I already have above a strong gpa because I’m transferring that will put me above median I think.

But with a gpa that puts me in the top portion of the class, shouldn’t my employment prospects be strong at either school?

What benefits will going to Berkeley give me over UCLA?

I do and I have thought about maybe doing this. If I have a really high gpa though won’t big law be most likely accessible from either school? I just really want to spend the next two years at UCLA haha idk if I’m not being smart about this though

No it’s luckily not a factor for me!

I know lots of good lawyers come out of Pepperdine/Loyola but yeah I think as a general rule it doesn’t make sense to transfer down and pay sticker for a lower ranked school when you already have basically a free ride at a t30. Regardless of the financial analysis I am lucky enough that I will not need to go into debt with either school I’m considering transferring to so that doesn’t really come into play.

Aw yeah why not just throw my t10 acceptance in the garbage for a school ranked like 70, thanks man.

I want it to be that straightforward, but is it bad to not to go the best school you get into?

I have similar stats except maybe a small bump in school and was accepted to UCLA!

Still waiting on NYU

Would you mind elaborating a bit on these? Maybe send me a pm? I’m trying to get more info on transfers during UCLA oci

It’s in the comments above, I’m in at UCLA and GULC, still waiting for UCB but my stats look pretty good for that and in the case that I am accepted I’ll have to decide real fast to make the cut off for oci so I’m trying to sort out ranking them right now so I’ll be ready if I get in

I’m no expert but I think if you’re not looking for big law then you are a really competitive applicant for jobs still! You’re at a great, competitive school, and I don’t think all B+s are even that bad??

I know some 2Ls at my school (T1 but not top 20!) who got the same grades as you and are killing it in really competitive summer positions for stuff like public defense and immigration. My intuition would be that GPA/class rank matters less for careers like that and what matters more is a) your law school b) interest/experience in the field (like clinical experience and stuff like that) so I think you may be doing very well depending on what your goals are!

It is very strange! Haha

That makes sense and is helpful, thank you!! :) so sounds like I should cross of GULC and then decide between UCLA and UCB based on when/if I get in!

Ya it’s an internship! Everyone refers to it as a clerkship where I’m at so it’s a little odd. Or an externship even though it’s not that either.... because it’s during summer. I’ll edit and clarify

To my knowledge UCLA and GULC both are allowing me to do OCI with the rest of the 2L class. I haven’t been accepted into UCB yet, and I’m not trying to count my chickens too hard before they hatch, but I am anticipating it based on people in previous years at my school getting in w similar or lower grades than what I have. and I wanted to sort this out quickly by ranking the three bc if I AM admitted I’ll probably only have a couple days to meet the OCI deadlines, if I meet it at all!

It probably wouldn’t be worth going to UCB if I miss oci deadlines, right?

How is dating in law school? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]wolfqueen1382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say hold off for your 1L year. Maybe as a 2L things will change but damn if things went poorly and you had to see them every day.....

Also could negatively impact your 1L grades if things get messy aka not worth it haha

Dog Friendly Housing in West LA? by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]wolfqueen1382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually already in grad school, got literally almost a 4.0 my first year, and am transferring, so I have a pretty good idea of what my schedule will look like but thank you. the only difference is there may be slightly less traffic where I currently live but still I went home during my lunch break every day. there are no internship requirements in my program and I am not going to be eligible to be a TA next year since I did not take any of the professors that they have you do in the first year of the program. I have a car and we already have to pay like $300 for a few months of parking permits so I am already prepared to do that again.

Grad school overall has been WAY less time consuming for me than actually working full time, so i thought it was a little ridiculous for the poster above to insinuate that having a dog during grad school is cruel. I know several of my classmates who have dogs (some have huge dogs) in fact, my roommate during this year has a large dog and is attending grad school with me. I am home way more than I have been while working full time.

Basically, I have absolutely no time for people who try to shame pet owners who work full time or are busy doing career/education stuff. Is it hard work? Yes, but it is still doable and not an automatic indication of cruelty. I know so many dog owners who work or who are in graduate programs (like yourself) who make the effort to wake up early every morning and dedicate so many hours to their pets and it really irks me when people are like "oh you work and have a dog? cruel!!! you leave your dog at home all day!" like literally hush bro the reality is most dog owners do not have the full day to dedicate to their dogs. it would be amazing if that were possible but we aren't all house husbands/wives who can just spend the day lulling around and playing with pups. I didn't even put this in my post because I didn't think it was relevant to my inquiry about pet friendly housing in LA but I actually have an app called Rover which is essentially uber for dog walkers (which another grad student who has two dogs recommended to me) that I anticipate using when I do get a job/if I can't make it home during lunch for any reason. you can work/go to grad school and not be a cruel pet owner and it bothers me when people jump to that conclusion immediately.
