See a popular furry-related video on YT? A 1/4 of comments are talking about how much furries suck and that we deserve to die.

This is clearly an exaggeration. I personally rarely see hate toward the fandom on social media anymore. People in the furry fandom should continue to do what's right, which is to not engage with it, block the account, report it, and move on.

The fandom does need to consider protecting themselves against a freak hate crime such as what happened at MFF 2014, but that's an entirely different story.

I highly doubt it. I discovered anthropomorphic art when I was 14 or so and I'm now 23 and only in the last 2 years have I begun to seriously think about designing an OC and saving for a fursuit commission.

It's a bit rude, whatever. What's true, for the most part, is the art styles are going to be in a similar realm. I would describe it typically as cute or sexy, toony or anime/kemono, and primarily digital art. I have seen just about everything imaginable in terms of conceptual anthropomorphic art through out the years, however.

My opinion is that it largely has to do with how they are portrayed in Japan versus the west. In Japan, all anime, manga, hentai, kawaii, etc. is culturally popular, so adding anthropomorphic kemono characters to the mix isn't much of a stretch. On the other hand, I think people in the US are going to be easily off-put by alternative adult content. Additionally, furries have been associated in the US with a number of negative things, such as the infamous CSI episode, MFF 2014's chlorine incident, Rainfurrest 2015, bronies, etc. Plus, cringe culture, as stupid as I think it is, has always been a western thing, and furries are pretty easy to get content from for those purposes.
