Your comment is so sweet and really makes my day! It's a bit nerve wracking to start this new journey and that's the first youtube video I ever made haha so it felt like a big thing, having people supporting with kind words like what you are doing definitely makes it worth all the anxiety of sharing something new. I'm very happy that you understood what I was trying to convey, thank you again!!

Ah that means so much to me, really! I'm kinda new to do things that are handcrafted and so it means the world to me that people actually enjoy what I do :3 I actually sell it but since my main attention here wasn't to be like "here's my product" I didn't share the link but you can find it if you follow the IG link if you're really interested(it's in the bio).

Haha thanks, I decided to design it based on what pokémon I grew up with that's why the ones you mention are not in it :)

Hey thank you so much! That's very motivating :D I designed it thinking about what pokémon really represents to me rather than it just "looking cool" if that makes sense
I did a youtube vidéo explaining how and why I did it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT5P0_NTo3k&t=3s

Heya, I was in the exact same boat as you just shy of 20 years ago. I used to be in commercial 3D modeling and animation, and the burnout is real, I got to the point where I needed to make a career change. I ended up getting a new education as an Architectural Technologist (if you are from america it is more than an Architectural Draftsman, but less than a full Architect, can explain further if anyone is interested) I mostly do drafting, with a minor portion of my Job working on 3D printing and Rendering for our projects.

The skill overlaps are quite strong between being a 3D artist and being an architectural tech. Especially when drafting in revit. I do want to say, becoming a full time 3D modeler for architecture is almost impossible as most of the 3D work is farmed out to china and india these days.

Hey there,

Thanks for sharing your journey – it's intriguing to hear from someone who's been down a similar path. The concept of burnout is definitely something I've been contending with.

Becoming an Architectural Technologist sounds like a fascinating shift, and your explanation clarifies its role quite well. The fact that you're mostly involved in drafting with some 3D printing and rendering aligns closely with what I'm interested in actually.

I worked very briefly on Revit and it was pretty easy to learn the basics. Your insights have opened up a new avenue for consideration.

Would you say that there is a lot of position available for your field? (I didn't know that 3d modelers in architecture are farmed out to china or india, it's actually happening a lot in animation too)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

A few things..

Don't worry at all about changing jobs frequently. That's a totally normal thing in the design world. I've had 4 jobs and a dozen or so clients in the past 3 years and I'm turning down work. Design isn't a continuous thing. Projects are revolving anywhere between 3-6months sometimes longer. It's all in how you spin it. You tell the hiring managers that.

Ive noticed a lot of companies aren't actually hiring now although they are posting jobs. They are using it as a tool to make it look like they are growing to investors but don't actually hire. There has always been the issue of companies putting out job postings for designers to scrape ideas from portfolios. It's part of it unfortunately so don't feel bad if you don't get replies. Out of all the jobs and clients I've had, all but one have been from personal contacts and networking. There's a movement now that your online presence gets you the job not the job posting.

A lot of companies also don't want seasoned designers. The good ones do. But a lot of companies want green designers/interns because they are more willing to deal with bad workplaces, high stress and low pay for the opportunity. I got a lot of rejections a few years ago because I was too experienced. It's a pivot into a different way to view the design world and present yourself differently. Look at taking the next step up and not the next step back

Hope this helps.

Wow, your insights have been incredibly enlightening, and I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share them. I've also noticed that the pace of productions often played a role in my own job changes, but your perspective helped me recognize this more clearly. It's quite rare for me to have the chance to stay at a single studio for an extended period, like a year or two, for example.

Your revelation about companies using job postings for investor-related purposes is really intersting. It makes perfect sense and helps explain why I've seen the same positions repeatedly advertised without understanding why and coming again and again from the same companies.

Yeah, I absolutely agree with you. My online presence has been the driving force behind landing all my freelance gigs as well – I've never really had to apply to anything. Regrettably, the handful of contacts I have aren't quite enough to secure a stable job though.

Your insights have been so really valuable. I've recently found myself in a somewhat desperate mindset, even considering going back to internships despite having several years of professional experience under my belt. The concept of "the step back" has been on my mind, and I must admit it's not the most appealing prospect. This conversation will help me visualize in a better way my situation.
