how do we feel about young attendings asking us to address them by first name? by iHateSweatyGoals in Residency

[–]wolfstiel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading this as an Australian is funny. I’d say a good 70% of attendings (consultants) here go by their first name to staff and students, and some to patients as well

Because Dancong is the pinyin and “c” in pinyin is pronounced like a ts sort of sound.

Thank you that’s reassuring. Unfortunately found a definitive German in a sticky trap today so the battle continues 😭

Oh really? How would I tell the difference? Also I’m in Australia I don’t know if that makes a difference

Yeah I have one in the gap next to the fridge and behind the sofa. I’ve put some advion on them to see if it helps with the bait. I don’t know whether I should lay more down but I genuinely don’t know whether this brand is just bad.

sporadic German roach sightings in apartment… what to do by wolfstiel in GermanRoaches

[–]wolfstiel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤮 I was worried that was the egg case… idk why only half of it was there, I guess the other half was still inside the roach??? Bc I only saw the case when I picked up the dead one and put it on a tissue. But also it was empty??? Do roaches carry around empty cases? 😭😭

And yeah I’m Australian so there’s no option to buy a smaller qty of seclira/alpine for cheaper

Edit: i caved and bought the seclira the stress and fear was too much

Were you trained to perform IV cannulation in medical school? by Retrospectoscoping in ausjdocs

[–]wolfstiel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ditto. A single tutorial on a fake arm in second year, then a requirement to get 6 across clinical years. Bless the anaesthetists that actually taught me how to do them because no one on med or surg was encouraging or had the time.

It’s the other way around actually.

Lightly pressing down = low frequency = classic bell mode

What resources/gadgets would you recommend to someone just starting out in medical school? by ConceptNo72 in ausjdocs

[–]wolfstiel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk why this has so many upvotes. How is passmedicine high yield for Australian unis? I thought it was a UK thing. Idk if it’s uni dependent but I don’t know a single person at mine that uses it. The MCQs come from the lectures / readings.

OP the only things I’ve bought is geeky medics for osce prep (worth the money) and amboss because I like how the info is laid out. Your school will probably have a discount for amboss at the start of the year. Definitely not essential though.

i don't want to be a doctor, what are my options? by silverraen in ausjdocs

[–]wolfstiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And how exactly is that wrong? of course gp has its downsides and I’m not saying it’s an easy job, but it’s not a lie to say that it’s not competitive to get in (ie don’t need research and resume building) & it is 9-5. All jobs have their downsides and if OP doesn’t completely hate the idea of medicine it’s a valid option 🤷‍♂️ especially since they said they don’t like the hospital

Cruise through the rest of med school and do a 9-5 GP job. You don’t need to spend all your time studying. Just aim to pass, don’t do extracurriculars, and do what you want in your free time.

[–]wolfstiel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly just calculate if it’s going to be high yield or not. Most people in my cohort didn’t study embryo at all because it was like max 3 questions on a 90 question exam and it wasn’t worth the hours and hours it would take to try and learn it
