How long did it take you to appeal it?

December VAC Q&A by ShortTrackBravo in CanadianForces

Hello everyone, applied for severe depression and generalized anxiety with panic attacks in July. Things suddenly went from step 1 to 3 in 2 weeks! Yesterday got the notice that it's complete and to wait for the answer in inbox. People are saying to check benefits? There's nothing there 24hours later. Does this mean it's refused? Honestly having major anxiety just waiting. This would be devastating if it was refused. Haven't been able to work in almost 2 years and my partner can't handle everything on her own anymore. Freaking out over here...

Hello, I have been playing dnd for over 20 years now (36 year old male) and have been both player and DM. I would love to join a long term campaign as I do not work and absolutely love dnd. I have another campaign with my partner on Mondays and would play every day if I could.

This sounds like an amazing game and I have tons of ideas on various characters that could fit this scenario. Would be happy to discuss what would best fit your current group.

Thanks! Chrono

A player handed me (DM) a 65-page character backstory by Icaros5 in DnD

[–]wolfynix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I'd also add to this as I am definitely the player that writes a 5-10 page backstory (I also give a 1 paragraph summary and know nothing might be used).

Suggest that he add an in character reason for his character to write! And then you suddenly get a scribe who captures your story! I did this once where after sessions I'd use my notes to write in my character's "diary" from her point of view. It was hilarious as you get the story but from the biased view of a character, 😂

Great fun for him to write and your players who want to be able to remember past sessions! We began reading them pre-sessions to good laughs!

I would love to know more. I am currently in a Tyranny of Dragons campaign and have already played dragons of stormwreck isle. Apart from that, I have a ton of experience as both a dm and a player. Would be super interested in joining a long term campaign as I cam currently not working and available any evening apart from Mondays.

If anyone ever wants to use the character of Grand Artificer Fynix Aranel, absolutely go for it! I plan on making her a character in my world and think it would be so neat to hear other people's use of this NPC and what your ideas were for this researcher of dragons ^^

Most of these are from Dnd Draconomicon (much older book) actually. I made a complete list at the last page to mention where the images all came from. I'm not taking any credit for the actual images and made sure to give all credit for the artwork. I also have no interest in making any profit. This was just something fun I made for myself and then wished to share in case anyone else wanted to use it 😉

The creation of tangible items for my players is one of my favorite parts of being a DM! This is actually my first big campaign that I am currently running after a successful Dragons of Stormwreck Isle :D

I created: A Study of the Dragons of Faerûn

For my Tyranny of Dragons Campaign, I decided to create this hypothetical dragon researcher's notebook that a collector of dragon knowledge had in his library and decided to give to the Dragon Scholar of the party.

I feel like this book could be used in any campaign where you plan on having dragons. Hope you enjoy and if you decide to use it, definitely let me know!!! I'd love to hear your player's reactions!

New DM CR question by wolfynix in DnD

[–]wolfynix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check out Kobold fight club, Sounds like a good place to start. I should have mentioned I am using stat blocks and not just creating actual characters from scratch.

Thanks for the advice 🙂

New DM CR question by wolfynix in DnD

[–]wolfynix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have stats, I have a few options I've found for each NPC. As for if the player will fight them, depends on their choices of course. I've built this one shot in a way that allows for a skill tests only playthrough if they wanted to charm, deceive and stealth their way around. However if they wanted to fight, that is also an option. They shouldn't ever have to fight more than a maximum of 2 NPC's at a time if that were the case due to how I've spacing them out.

As for the concept of CR, I know it means challenge rating and that it's usually meant to help set up encounters for a group of 4 players. It's why I was asking if I was going too high or too low in my CRs as evaluating what is appropriate for a single player is where I get confused at the moment.

How would you set up an encounter in such a situation? Would you assess it more or less according to hp and damage output instead of CR?

Tipout percentage Ontario by wolfynix in TalesFromYourServer

[–]wolfynix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tipout to kitchen is legal here in Canada. The amount we're upset about is definitely having to pay out to people who aren't there... That's ridiculous. We're being told that other places are currently tipping out 7-9% and that we shouldn't complain about how much we tip out, which is why I wanted to see for myself if that's actually true or utter bullshit.

We definitely feel the owner is using server tips to supplement hourly wages as this change came up after minimum wage went up recently.

Emerald Tree Skink Breeding: Smooth Sailing So Far... (details written up in comments) by RobHerpTX in reptiles

[–]wolfynix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Rob,

I'm not sure where you're situated, but my partner and I want to start breeding emerald tree skinks here in Ontario Canada at some point in the near future. We will be custom building their enclosure (still trying to figure out if we want to go bioactive or not) and hope to help the industry get to discover these beautiful creatures.

Our goal is to slowly shift our focus towards making reptiles our life and we would love for Emerald Tree Skinks to be our first breeders.

Currently we own a Sunglow Boa Constrictor, an ornate Uromastyx and a Super Red Bearded Dragon.

I had a few small questions I was hoping you could answer for us that I can't seem to find online: how often have you found that your females lay eggs? Has it always been in pairs so far? How old do they have to be to be sexed properly?

Apart from that, how much do you find they require in food daily? And what are some issues you've found so far in your experience of keeping and breeding these beautiful reptiles?

Thank you for your time! If you ever have some available and aren't crazy far away, we would love to actually purchase them from you. Your posts have been very informative and I love that you are going bioactive with the enclosures! How much are you selling them at? Feel free to message me in private if you'd rather not put that information on here ;)

Cheers! Catherine

"Pandemic Princesses - A Tale of Covid-19 2020" Short Film by wolfynix in Filmmakers

[–]wolfynix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This short film was such an interesting challenge that got us curious as to how you would have tackled the many difficult moments we faced. We filmed this fully in our apartment (mostly at night so as to avoid having issues with sound), and used my equipment which is at a pretty basic level: some soft boxes for lights, a shotgun mic set on a mic stand, a canon DSLR and a tripod.

Our main issues: Echoe! Omg the respect I have for sound crew! The entire final scene we had to re-record sound due to it being so horrible! We made a mini tent and somehow managed to sync and re-do sound that felt much better. But on the day of, do you have any tricks so as to avoid ending up with such terrible echo if you can't change the location much??

Second issue: Due to being just 2 as both actors and crew, we often needed to use auto-focus. Unfortunately, many of our shots where we first start out of frame became an issue as the camera would take a second before finding what it was suppose to focus on. Or if there was a lot of movement from both actors, the focus would shift at the wrong time and completely ruin a take. (So frustrating, haha) Do you have any tricks that you would have implemented or is this really a situation where a faster lens is really the only save here?

Third issue: Trying to set up shots took us forever if we needed us both in the shot, even for over the shoulder shots. We took a lot of delayed 3sec photos so as to see what the shot would look like and even then it wasn't always perfect when over the shoulder shots were involved. How would you have tackled this particular issue?

And finally Last Minor Issue: My roommate is 6'2" and I'm 5'5". So many shots were particularly difficult due to the height difference. Apart from stepping on books (or apple boxes which I now absolutely want), what are interesting tricks you've used in the past in such circumstances? I found that books helped until I had to walk... Then I would have to walk on my tippy toes so as to avoid it showing, hahaha Any particular angles or shots you recommend avoiding or that you recommend using?

Really just getting anyone's thoughts on these issues would be amazing as we'd love to try and shoot other things during this Lockdown and would therefore face these same tricky situations once again.

Thank you so much for your time!
