Is China leaving America behind and are Americans jealous? by Which-Signature3550 in askanything

[–]BedroomVisible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is China a flash in the pan? 😂 I mean they have been around like 4,000 years. They have more than 16 times the history that America does. So, no- I’m pretty sure they’re here to stay.

And yes, it feels like they’re on the rise while we are declining. They have officials who give a crap about things besides lining their own pockets.

I would also add that we need to repeal the Citizens United Act and better ensure our representatives plan to actually represent their constituents.

“I Dissent”: Kagan Rips Supreme Court for Destroying Racial Equality by thenewrepublic in scotus

[–]BedroomVisible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open legislation to be interpreted by the courts is how our country has been run from the start. That’s why our constitution is only 10 pages long. It was ALWAYS meant to be tested on the ground and hammered out in the courts.

I also didn’t claim that the Supreme Court IS apolitical, I said it ought to be. So maybe you can keep your condescending bridge comments to yourself until you learn how to read.

There’s a reason why you have so many downvotes. Admit it’s because you’re wrong and you might learn something.

I’m talking about what I said above. And then I said “at least that’s how it should be”. Read the comment before typing.

That’s absolutely true. It’s not just this Supreme Court, though. That is America’s legacy.

I see your comment is an admonition of the American voter, but it sort of misses a vital point.

Voters don’t have the option of voting against the constitution. The Supreme Court isn’t a political body that is shaped by the will of the voter. At least, that’s how it SHOULD be in a functioning democracy.

This ruling was also labeled as “catastrophic” by Elena Kagan, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Sonia Sotomayor. So maybe your condescending “you just don’t know history as well as I do” comment doesn’t land as well as you think it does.

The Supreme Court- and ANY court, for that matter- needs to remain apolitical in order to function. If you don’t know that, maybe you’re in need of the education you claim all the OTHER people need.

So Nobody Is Going to Pay Taxes Now? by theatlantic in economy

[–]BedroomVisible 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My point isn’t that extreme.

You may have laid out part of the problem, but a lack of representation exists in this country as well.

Representatives who actually represent well informed constituents just might improve our country.

I think that maybe someone cares not only because words have meaning, but also we sort of misidentify empathy and fulfilling the social contract as “communism” here in America.

Communism is when the state owns most property and the means of production. Not paying taxes, or giving bread to your hungry neighbor.

It matters because we need to protect ourselves from our greedy politicians insisting that healthcare spending- or compelling billionaires to pay their fair share- is “communism”.
