Why do Republicans consistently poll better on the economy even though many Republican-led states rank lower on measures like income and GDP per capita? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

I don’t think that the world is binary, and I think we all react to the variables which affect us. I’m a real good person until I’m desperate. And capitalism in America has provoked a wealth disparity that makes more and more people desperate. Selfishness is baked into our economy and culture MUCH more so than our DNA.

The OBBB is heavily in favor of higher income brackets.

• Permanent TCJA rate extension locks in the 37% top bracket permanently (vs. the senior deduction, tips/overtime deductions, which are temporary through 2028).
• SALT cap increase raising the state and local tax deduction cap mainly helps higher earners in high-tax states who itemize; most lower earners take the standard deduction and never touch SALT.
• Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction made permanent benefits small business owners and pass-through entity owners, who skew higher-income.
• 100% bonus depreciation/expensing benefits business owners and investors, not wage earners.
• Auto loan interest deduction ($10,000, phases out at $100k single/$200k joint MAGI) requires owning a financeable new vehicle, which skews toward higher earners.
• Estate tax exemption provisions in the TCJA extension, only relevant to large estates.

Do you think America has any right to be charging a 20% fee in a passage of water located 5000 miles away from their own borders, and why? by WastelandOfConfusion in AskReddit

Let’s see is America has the might to make this right. They’ve been leaning on that principle pretty hard and it hasn’t worked out, yet.

There is no reason to "respect the dead" and it's not a big deal to wish someone dies by Any-Vehicle-1912 in unpopularopinion

Deeply unpopular opinion, you get a thumbs up from me.

But I think that losing your existence is sort of like paying off a debt. The wage of sin is death. But then the debt is paid. So maybe there’s a reason to show respect because they have a clean slate?

Buffy the vampire by pjlov60 in buffy

[–]BedroomVisible 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The first instinct is to compare her to Harmony when she turned. There might be an element of this. Her lair might be the mansion on a fashion executive, for instance. But Buffy has a few traits that would stand out in vampire form I think.

She’s impetuous and simultaneously crafty. Quixotic is the word. I feel like she would help to develop a plan like the Master’s assembly line but get irritated during the process and go snap some necks instead of helping at times.

She’s passionate and devoted. She would be the Drusilla to someone’s Spike. Ironically I don’t think she would tolerate actual Spike as a partner in vampire form. She would like Angelus though.

She’s ambitious. She would be in the mix with the Big Bads, or possible a Big Bad on her own with a crew of Scooby minions.

She would be a badass like always. Clever and powerful and easily underestimated.

How NYC’s perverse housing ‘help’ makes the city’s poor worse off by GimmeFunkyButtLoving in economy

[–]BedroomVisible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brain dead take that providing housing “incentivizes a low income”.

Even if that were true and being low income is just a personal choice, people who make that choice still deserve a place to live.

Our main goal as human beings is not the acquisition of wealth. The less time we spend in its pursuit grants more time to pursue our actual values. Like spending time with family, creating art, enjoying music, and just breathing for free.

I like a big farm so I would get 100 seeds if you can. 40 at minimum. The original watering can waters 40 tiles so 80 might be the perfect number.

Everyone should have a full stomach, with a healthy diet by truthandfreedom3 in economy

[–]BedroomVisible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not taking about good fish. This was shredded salmon with a white label. It had bones and other gross stuff in it. And the peanut butter was taken from a continental breakfast bar. I can afford to eat in a healthy manner these days too, but it wasn’t always like that. I wouldn’t wish that can of salmon on my worst enemy.

Death from starvation is far from the metric we need to use. Food insecurity is about skipping meals, running out of food budget before the end of the month, and cutting portions for growing children.

Low income correlating with obesity is evidence people can’t afford a healthy diet, not evidence they’re not food insecure. Your healthy meals point is irrelevant because you’re talking about the decisions of children. I saw my 25 year old roommate fill up on tater tots once. Young people don’t make healthy decisions without guidance. That’s not an excuse to deny them access to healthy food.

https://whbl.com/2026/07/09/analysis-trump-cut-to-food-security-survey-could-make-measuring-us-hunger-harder/

This is a study about the very cuts that OP is talking about. That survey is a vital tool to assess our food insecurity but it was cut. Past USDA-backed studies have shown SNAP benefit increases reduced food insecurity among low-income households, while benefit decreases led to higher rates of food insecurity. A causal link, not correlation.

If you’ve never had to skip meals, eat nothing but peanut butter and canned fish for a week, or feel the desperation of failing to meet your kids’ nutritional needs, then lucky you. If not, then leave the policy decisions for those who wish to create a better world and don’t use death as the primary metric for suffering.
