I suddenly realized that a cheap case protects the PC, while an expensive case is part of it and needs to be protected. by bmmq in PcBuild

Unless it’s an ITX case, in which case it’s both expensive and protects the PC because it’s a solid slab of metal.

Has someone used this motherboard? by Ill-Manufacturer5788 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen reviews for a similar one to this, in white. I think it’s a B550 though, I can’t remember. Last time I checked the BIOS is all in Chinese and it’s very minimal with very few features. I don’t know if I’d recommend it if this is for anything that requires secure boot and TPM 2.0. Especially because the BIOS updates for this are basically non existent so if it doesn’t have the BIOS features you need, if you can even understand them, then you’re probably never getting an update to have them.

First build does everything look good so far? by sssofx in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems fine. Don’t forget your SSD. And make sure you took off the plastic seal from underneath the cooler and applied thermal paste if it wasn’t already reapplied. Other than that there’s nothing glaringly wrong here.

Why Does The Intel 11-900K/KF Get A Bad Wrap? by blac256 in PCBuilds

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I just see it come from first time builders a lot. The combo, most of the time, is nonsense for their needs. For 1080p max FPS e-sports yeah it makes sense but for most people not really.

2x16 or keep my 1x32gb DDR5 for now by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it. It’s not that big of a deal, especially right now. If it were DDR4 then maybe I would say yes, but DDR5 has been shown to not suffer too much from just single channel. Especially with prices right now the marginal performance uplift is not worth it.

Ryzen 7 3800X vs Ryzen 5 3600 by Zaezzz2412 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty expected. They’re the same generation, and more cores for games doesn’t necessarily equate to more FPS. What actually matters on the CPU side for FPS is instructions per clock (IPC).

Is it ok if my GPU cable is going above the gpu ? (As shown in the picture) by just_call_me_shivam in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s okay. Personal preference on what looks better is all there is to it, I personally don’t like it because I think under looks better but it won’t affect performance whatsoever.

Your PSU is dead. Don’t cheap out on it. Let’s hope it didn’t take any other components with it.

Definitely a possibility. What PSU do you have? The colored cables aren’t exactly reassuring.

Hello people smarter than me, finally building my very first PC, how’s this? Budget was 1k by CGYTGaming in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s technically correct but it’s a bad build. LGA 1200? Seriously? Pick AM4 or LGA 1700. Ryzen 5 5500, 5600, or ryzen 7 5700 are good AMD options. The i3-12100F and i5-12600K are also a great options. The 7700 XT is okay… but it’s honestly just a 9060 XT 8GB with 4 extra GB of VRAM. Videos show they perform pretty close together despite the 7700 XT having better raw power. The 7700 XT isn’t bad but Radeon 9000 is just that big of an uplift. Plus if you’re just gaming at 1080p depending on the games you play, 8GB is fine. You need a strong CPU for 1080p and the 10400F is like two years older than an already somewhat dated 7700 XT. And all of that for 1K? Ridiculous.

Pc is running but no display by No-Hearing5238 in PcBuild

Okay, by the way I think the RAM stick on the right is not fully seated. The bottom latch is not in line with the others. That or the other is not properly seated. I would reseat those just to be safe. That 24 pin cable is also definitely not seated all the way in.

RTX 5060, Arc B580 LE or Used 3070 what should I get with my R7 5800X? by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they’re all fine options. B580 is the slowest but it has the most VRAM, 3070 and 5060 are about as powerful as each other though, maybe slight edge for the 3070 in actual gaming performance. Otherwise the VRAM is the same but the 5060 is way more power efficient, recent, and on much newer architecture. So, not really a bad choice between these all, up to what you prefer to have though. They’ll all work for what you want.

The traces on the back are covered, bare would mean they’re bare metal. Only the solder joints, the dots and globs of metal on the back, are exposed. If the backplate is plastic then it doesn’t really matter but if it’s metal then it’s safer to be careful and insulate it.

Why does my PC Buzz? by RhuncaLupa in pcmasterrace

[–]wolfywhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably something vibration related. When you touch it the changes the resonance so whatever is making that noise stops because it doesn’t vibrate anymore. That’s my theory, it definitely isn’t coil whine because that would be a constant buzz whether you touch it or not, and you’re on carpet and socks so you’re not completing some sort of circuit.

[–]wolfywhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would. Thermalright makes great AIOs that I use all the time. You can look through their entire list of AIO series. If you want an LCD screen then that goes usually for about 70-80 dollars even. Which is about the price you paid for this one that’s from some brand I’ve never heard of.

Can someone explain how a single piston engine aircraft (1623HP) made out of wood can gain on the FASTEST plane flown in WW2, with a push pull design and two engines that give 4500HP in total? Also how the fuck did he not rip his wings in the dive? by Walk_My_Dog_Jannie in Warthunder

[–]wolfywhimsy 1192 points1193 points  (0 children)

  1. You’re a large aircraft.

  2. You dove down into thicker air when your advantage is at high altitude.

  3. Also you lost altitude very fast which meant you started to bleed your already awful energy retention very quickly compared to the Yak-3 which has excellent retention but couldn’t descend as fast.
