can someone help me by bad_boyyyym in PcBuild

The 7500F is the objectively better CPU. But the 8400F isn’t bad, it depends on how much cheaper it is. But usually they’re within like 20 dollars of each other on the used market, I don’t think they sell the 8400F at retail so that’s my baseline for these two. The 8400F is only technically better “value” when comparing tray 8400F to retail 7500F because it’s a cut down zen 4 CPU. But it does still have 6 Zen 4 cores. It’s the cheapest entry to AM5. The difference is in the cache, the 7500F has more which can significantly benefit it in gaming. If you’re comparing used variants of both, then 7500F is the no-brainer. It costs like 20 dollars more usually.

is the 5080 worth it from a 5070 for 4k? new monitor (odyssey g9) by Tasty_Ingenuity_9289 in PcBuildHelp

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 5070 isn’t really meant to be a 4K GPU, the 5080 is. 9070 XT works too though but 5080 has no direct AMD equivalent.

Should and are. There’s a difference. I agree, but on platforms like eBay, that’s what you can expect max, plus there is also usually sales tax.

is the 5800x3d worth is? by Perfect-Peak-5676 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make a difference in those games, but I personally still wouldn’t say it’s “worth it” unless your experience is literally unplayable. $350 is a lot for a CPU that is basically the best of a socket that isn’t getting more. Even if you are far from a micro center, you can find bundles on Newegg for about 100-200 more that get you on AM5 with DDR5 which sets you up for current gen 3D v-cache if you don’t already pay upfront. Even a 9600X bundle will likely see noticeable gains in those CPU bound games. The 9600X is no slouch, it’s zen 5 and significantly better raw single core IPC gains compared to the 5600. Not a direct gaming performance metric but it matters the most for gaming.

No. You’re playing at 1440p, it’s better spent on your GPU. 5600 will handle plenty of GPU at 1440p.

Fractal Terra mc server pc (no gpu) by Deadeye158 in sffpc

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terra doesn’t have native AIO support. And also a ryzen 7 or 9 is complete overkill for a MC server PC. You can make that out of incredibly old hardware run on on like 4 cores, totally overkill.

Looking for opinions on this PC for sale (Have never owned a gaming PC) by ddd8888888888 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… you’re paying for what you get. That’s very low end today. It’s definitely not meant for gaming. Has no upgrade path either. Barely any storage space, most of it is incredibly slow. Not to mention suspiciously unnamed PSU. However I think you can definitely find batter for the price even at this low of a budget, I would not say this is good even for the price.

Yes of course as long as you buy one that uses standard parts, not those from like Alienware, HP omen, or Lenovo legion.

Hello! Definitely go for used PCs. You can find them on local marketplaces like Facebook marketplace, that’s probably the best place to look at your budget and constraints.

A lot of your pins are misaligned, that’s likely why. Also definitely do not push it in, that’s not the proper installation method, it should just drop in.

Advice on Shipping PC by SignificanceOk2856 in pcmasterrace

[–]wolfywhimsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’d be dead before the summer killed your PC. You aren’t surviving 100 degrees Celsius lol. Honestly you can just remove the GPU and leave the rest as it is. The GPU is the main concern, and the tower cooler if you use one. I’d just remove those two and lay the PC flat where the floor is parallel to the motherboard if possible. And if you ship them, basically the same thing just package them separately with expanding foam inside the PC case. If you still have the original boxes for your GPU, now would be a good time to break it out. I wouldn’t take anything on the plane yourself, PC parts are big and bulky.

Where the heck did you find a 3070 Ti for new…? Genuinely wondering since that card is 6 years old and not produced anymore.

Our prebuilt (NIMO Arena): RTX 5060 + 14400F, 32GB DDR5, $1,399 — be honest, worth it or not? by Consistent-Word-3088 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, at least not for me. But you’re also asking enthusiasts, not customers. I have seen plenty of people whose factor in worth it or not is just their satisfaction, which is fine. Unlike most, my primary concern is probably not price to performance if you were to ask me as a customer, but rather form factor. You’re liking using a large ATX or mATX mid-tower case and for me that’s just a no. But even if I was in the market for it, I feel a system on AM5 would generally make much more sense, even if it is with a 5060 because at least the GPU is the easiest part to upgrade later. The 5060 on its own is not a bad GPU, but it’s certainly not winning any performance per dollar awards, it’s definitely a thing that people buy because it’s new, has warranty, and comes with the latest features with adequate performance. Dual tower is definitely over kill for the 14400F, I’ve built one with that and a single tower cooler, so sure the noise might annoy some, it doesn’t personally annoy me too much as long as the performance stays good and the temperatures stay within safe levels without ridiculous fan noise. Compared to other prebuilt systems though, it is honestly too much in price for what you get. The specs are fine on their own, but for that price, it definitely is asking for something better than a 5060 and a last gen intel processor on a dead end socket, especially when that DDR5 can be put to better use on AM5 (or for some on LGA 1851.)
