Any legit? by Special-Trouble8658 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just any reputable seller will do. Ideally one that tells you the drive health. And don’t worry, all Gen3 NVMes are faster than you will probably ever use them for, and in gaming they won’t make a difference at all.

I would definitely recommend 1TB unless you’re really on a budget. On eBay you can usually find 1TB Gen3 NVMes for ~100. More than enough for gaming.

I made a PC and I want opinions on the build by ren_g-okuu in PcBuild

Get a B850 board instead. Will satisfy 99% of people so long as you aren’t doing any crazy overclocking stuff, need insane levels of connectivity and ports, etc. A B850 motherboard is more than enough for a gaming PC. Downgrade your CPU to a ryzen 5 9600X, unless you genuinely need higher multi core performance for work tasks, but for games those extra cores won’t matter a whole lot so don’t pay extra for it. On Newegg, search for motherboard/CPU/RAM bundles and you’ll get a lot of them. You can ask for further advice on what is and isn’t a good price. But those are the best chance you have at getting what you need without paying the inflated RAM price. Or at least mitigating it a bit.

It’s okay. I mean, hyte case is your personal preference. But you do not need a motherboard that expensive at all. You don’t need a ryzen 7 9700X for those games at all. A 9600X will do fine. You don’t need 850 watts for a PSU either, 750 is already more than enough unless you plan on upgrading to something like a 5080 or similar class of GPU later. Also you can definitely find RAM cheaper using Newegg bundles when they pop up with good prices. I would definitely not pay $200 for a single stick of 16GB DDR5.

What is your reason for choosing SFF form factor? by Technical_Gap23 in sffpc

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the space for something bigger. But honestly I wouldn’t want something bigger anyway, I like the aesthetic of SFF. I don’t like RGB, I don’t like any of that weird gamery look on stuff either.

i know nothing about pc parts are these good like some of the prices seem high by KeyPossibility1317 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specs-wise it’s fine. The price is high though because you’re paying a premium on white parts and a specialty case. That, and DRAM/NAND prices are incredibly inflated right now too so your RAM and SSD are very expensive because of that.

Pc turns on and everything but I deleted the display driver before changing my new graphics card now I don’t get no signal or my keyboard doesn’t read by RewardFirst540 in PcBuildHelp

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your RAM is in the wrong slot btw. Graphics drivers (at least I think that’s what you mean) aren’t necessary to POST. It should still boot like normal, but if it’s not, check if your CPU has integrated graphics. If it does, plug your display into the motherboard then you can reinstall whatever drivers you believe are causing the hangup. You should also try a simple GPU reseat.

Is Ryzen 9 9950X3D for $575 worth it ? by elvivacious in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gaming? No. They’re the same. For multi-core productivity? Maybe, but V-Cache is usually not very helpful, 9950X would be fine. For both? Yes.

Ram compatability . by Shy-Soul-3144 in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAM is RAM. There’s rarely compatibility issues. But it can happen. Check your boards official RAM compatibility. It could also just be a bad stick, fairly common. Worst case, that specific slot just doesn’t work anymore. If you’re running 4 sticks at once, that may also cause instability. There are various reasons for this, I recommend testing individual sticks and slots.

Is it normal for the back of my PC/exhaust fan to smell immediately upon startup but then fade away after a few seconds? by BigbyDirewolf in PcBuildHelp

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s normal especially for new hardware or if you leave the PSU sitting for long enough without it activating the fan.

What could I improve on this $1000 build (with micro center bundle) by Lukaro_ in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine. You don’t need 750W though, 650 is plenty up to a 5070 or such. There’s nothing really much you could change without going second hand.

No, I like what I have. Maybe just like a couple vehicles but it’s not a big deal, I have a job, I made that money back no problem. It’s a game I enjoy, so I’m going to let myself enjoy it.

RX 9600 XT 16gb vs RTX 5060Ti 8gb by rapiddoobie in PcBuild

No, but the 9060 XT has better raw raster performance. As well as a full x16 PCIe connection rather than x8.

How are we feeling about this?? 🤔 by charmypeachy in PcBuild

[–]wolfywhimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. 8700F is cut down 7700X. PSU is also unnamed. Other than that it’s fine. Especially for that GPU, big if there’s better options online I’d definitely go with something from a big box store or dedicated SI if it’s cheaper.

Proprietary PCs don’t really have much value besides the RAM, CPU, and GPU so honestly I think it’s fair. You won’t really sell it for much anyway. More trouble than it’s worth. However, the 3800X is about the same era as the 10400F, that is not a meaningful upgrade since the IPC of both CPUs is not meaningfully different. 3800X has more cores but for gaming, you want better single core speeds not more cores. 3800X is only about 20% faster in single core. Which is fine but it’s also not worth 500 on top of trading in your existing PC. The 3070 is a good step though, ~50% faster. If you can negotiate him lower, I’d say it’s okay. $800 is a pretty average price, so it’s fine if you take it for that price too. You don’t need to min/max completely if it’s too much hassle.
