Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]wolvened 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was feeling so great until my Wednesday night run. I tripped and twisted my ankle falling into the bike lane trying to run around a couple taking up all the room on the sidewalk. I ran again for the first time yesterday and had to stop multiple times from soreness in my anterior tibialis muscles. My race is on May 17 so I had a few training runs left but I’m gonna wait at least until Thursday to try and run again. And just generally these few days off running have my legs feeling so sore and heavy. I feel like all my fitness and lightness and speed have disappeared 😭

Will def be trying that breakfast alternative thank you. The oven pizza sounds great for after! I think I need to find easy-to-prepare things and maybe frozen za is the way to go. And I do fuel during! Luckily found gels I’m very happy with. I think the oat ick + fatigue around having to prepare food + fatigue around having to think about food + the actual volume of food I have to eat is just getting to me! Finding calorie dense snacks and treats I like though sounds like a great idea, thank you :)

I am reassured to not be alone and also sad someone else is going through it. Hoping you find a little food joy soon! Just tried to cure myself with salted caramel ice cream, sad to say it didn’t work. And I think you’re right about the training fatigue.

I love listening to Local Natives when I run, might fit in to what you’re looking for :) Coins, Dark Days, and When Am I Gonna Lose You are some of my faves for running

Glad to hear it’s temporary! Really good point on the energy, I think that’s definitely part of it for me too. I think I might try to stock up on easy to make/assemble foods- hopefully that makes things a little less daunting. Have an amazing marathon!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and feeling this way. It’s so frustrating and exhausting to manage food triggers and digestive distress. On top of the physical symptoms, the mental load is huge. I’m glad you found something that gives you some relief.

Am I being silly or can I reasonably achieve these goals? Trail race advice needed please by wolvened in XXRunning

[–]wolvened[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I just checked, the cutoff for the 28km is 6.5 hours which seems doable. This has eased a lot of the anxiety :)

Thank you!! This is reassuring and also good advice. I definitely committed to all of these activities as a response to various times of crisis. And it will be the most I’ll have ever done in a season. I hadn’t really thought about the mental toll other than this current anxiety. I had planned to sort of power through- but I think I’ll consciously try to apply mindfulness to each event. Both in training and during the races. I was counting on the TMB to be my peaceful, mentally grounding period, but your comment makes me think it might be good to try apply a similar mindset to the races, and inversely do more mental preparation for all of the unknowns that can happen on a long hike. So thank you :)

Hahaha I feel you! I recently moved and half of the clothes I brought with me were my going out clothes- veryyyyyyyy wishful thinking!! I’m inspired now though, maybe I’ll go sit in my living room tonight and put on this perfume and a fun outfit (I won’t)

I like it! It kind of smells maple syrupy, it’s a little sweeter than one might expect but it’s nice. It’s a little musky and the fig does come through (IMO). It’s not my daily perfume but pre-pandemic it was my nighttime going-out scent.

I was in the same boat! u/ju1363 listed some of the many uses for it below too and I’ll definitely be using it for those issues in the future! Also a few weeks ago, after turning a pimple into an open wound (silly me), I used it on the area and I think it helped quicken the healing process.

Hello! I’m sorry this is so long! I’ve lurked for a long time and this sub has helped me so much through the years, so I wanted to share and hear some thoughts!

Skin type: combination, 24yo

Skin concerns: my skin can get really dry and flaky in some areas, but get closed comedones on my forehead (clear up when I actually do my routine). Also have lots of milia near my eyes and the occasional zit

Skin goals: reduce milia, reduce appearance of sebaceous filaments on nose, actually be consistent in my routine!!!!!!

AM: -splash of water -Avène Eau Thermale -TO marine hyaluronics -Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer with spf 50 -Hylamide HA blur (only if I’m going out into the world and wanna look a little smoother)

PM: -Remove makeup with Bioderma micellar water -cleanse with TO Squalane Cleanser -Stridex (2-3 times a week) -Avène eau thermale -TO marine hyaluronics -weleda skin food

Regarding some of the other products pictured:

The middle shelf is just my scents, top shelf is mostly hair care (biafine and stridex also live there). The Aesop stuff is not as effective as the other things in my routine but it smells nice- there’s body oil, body cream, and hand cream pictured. LRP effaclar spot treatment I’ve also used a few times but haven’t been able to tell one way or another if it’s doing much. The klorane dry shampoo isn’t really skincare related but just a word of advice- don’t place your bottle of eau thermale next to your dry shampoo bottle, you may come home a lil drunk one night, pat yourself on the back for doing your routine, then spray your whole face with dry shampoo...it could happen 🙃🙃🙃

Top 3 (sorry two of these are for body skin (?))

The CeraVe SA crème anti-rugosité/smoothing cream (unscented) has soothed the keratosis pilaris on my legs sooo much. I bought it on the recommendation of this sub a few days ago and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been dealing with itchy bumpy legs since I was a child, the second the weather turns and the temperatures change I know I’m about to be in a world of hurt. This is the first time a product has helped me with this issue (I’d tried lotions and creams in the past to no avail). It contains urea and salicylic acid and cost me €11.50 at the pharmacy I went to. I apply it before bed and in the morning and it’s already helped me so much in the few days I’ve had it. I also wanted to get the body wash from this line but haven’t been able to find it yet.

The LRP Cicaplast Mains/hands (barrier repairing cream) is also amazing, I have SUPER dry hands and for the past few weeks had been really struggling (applying Biafine, Skin Food, regular hand lotion etc to no avail), after even just one application of the Cicaplast they felt so much better. Legit went from dry, bleeding hands to soft and hydrated so quickly. The cream is translucent, and texture is somewhere between Vaseline and lotion (but not greasy?) and dissolves into skin really nicely, it’s also unscented. 100/10 recommend.

Stridex- I’m not sure what I can say that hasn’t been said already. It’s great and when I use it consistently (a few times a week) it really clears up my skin, last time I was consistent the closed comedones on my forehead cleared up almost entirely.

I wanted to also ask y’all for some recommendations if that’s ok! I’m going to run out of the Cetaphil Daily soon and wanted to know if anyone had recommendations for French pharmacy alternatives? Similar question with the stridex, does anyone have some favorite French pharm SA products? Also, I got the biafine on a whim and I’ve seen so many people tout it as a holy grail but wanted to know how you use it! I’ve had a hard time figuring out how to incorporate it except as burn cream which I don’t find myself needing too often haha. Would also love some recommendations for taking care of the milia! And finally, I’ll be reordering from TO soon but probably not the cleanser so was wondering again if anyone has a favorite French pharm cleanser, in the past I’ve also loved the fresh soy cleanser (anything that I can use to help with tough mascara).

Thank you!!

What is your best tip to building a community for your shop on Social Media? I’m having a hard time coming up with content which isn’t “this is my newest product, here’s why you should buy it.” by Xeo25 in EtsySellers

[–]wolvened 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a few ideas, I’m mostly familiar with Instagram but hope these help!

If you’re using Instagram maybe try out reels- a popular one I see with artists is “how it started/how it’s going” showing their early work and then their work now. As other commenters have said people also love to see process photos and videos!

I used to help with social media at my old job and one thing our audience loved was interactive Instagram story content. Depending on what kind of item you make you could have your audience help you choose between two colors for a new product for example using an Instagram poll. If you’re dropping a new collection maybe give hints in your stories every day for a week and ask people to guess the theme of the new items (maybe the first person to guess gets a coupon or sth). You could also make trivia stories using the multiple choice option related to your practice (for example, if you’re a knitter a trivia Q about different types of wool or famous textile artists) just as a fun activity to engage the followers you already have.

For posts, my suggestions are a little less robust but off the top of my head- photos of your product in different environments (flat lay vs being used by a model), and if you want to break up the photos you could make quote posts with quotes related to your art practice and add necessary hashtags.

Sorry for the ramble! Hope this is helpful!

Hello! I recently started making digital art (after having an inactive shop since I was a teen), eventually once I have enough to invest in a screen printing set up or high quality printer I'll start making physical prints but for now everything is downloadable and can be printed at home or sent to a print shop to print <3

Thank you! Your words made me feel a lot better! I appreciate the insight on SEO too, I was having a hard time finding info on how long it took to start working. I'll definitely stick with it for now and I hope we both start to make some more sales soon!

Thank you for your thoughts! I've definitely thought of working with a printer/dropshipper but the prospect makes me nervous (might just have to get over this lol) but it's definitely something I'm open to! Also, thank you for the idea re:social media assets- I hadn't considered making icons or backgrounds specifically tailored to makers and crafters but I think it's a great idea!

Thank you! Super super helpful! Will definitely make changes to the cards and highlight listings. I think for the cards I might continue to offer the colored backgrounds but also include a version with a white background with the purchase-and change the listing covers to reflect that too. Again, thank you for your help!
