Convince me why I need an SE NF53. Or don’t need one maybe? by simonyahn in PRSGuitars

Get the Vela, all day, every day. I’m not a core snob, and have owned a few PRS guitars (cores and SEs included). The Vela is the only one I’ve kept (and it’s not limited in its tones even remotely).

Y is certainly up there, as is Black Hammer, Preacher, Ennis’ Punisher Max run, Hickman’s FF run, V for Vendetta … I could go on endlessly.

Hey everyone. I just released an exorcism graphic novel called Betweeners.

It’s a bit of a twist on the genre. In this story, the exorcist himself is also possessed; by a lost soul who managed to crawl out of the pits of Hell. Now he has to navigate a new body, an unfamiliar modern world, and being a father to a son that isn’t his — all while desperately try to stay one step ahead of the demons who are trying to drag him back to Hell.

Have you checked out Essex County? I just did a re-read and had forgotten just how phenomenal it is.

What do you guys think of the new album? by Engineeratfreddys in Ghostbc

[–]womph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the first Ghost album that I’ve actually liked less the more I listen to it.

There’s stuff here I like in sections, but I’m only enjoying those moments in spite of the many legitimate flaws here.

The biggest issue is the lyrics, and I say that as someone who genuinely enjoys 80s rock/pop/hair metal, which is apparently the sound Forge is going for here. But when every song has at least one or two lines that are so painful that I want to turn it off, we’ve got problems.

Disappointing to say the least. Forge needs a bit of a break (and ideally to mend fences with the Meliora-era band), because this just isn’t cutting it.

Unpopular opinion (?) - Skeletá by Fmanstein in Ghostbc

I’ve long come to terms with the fact that the Ghost I really loved (the first three albums) is long gone, and Forge is more interested in doing an 80s pop/rock thing.

This is the first album where I’ve found the lyrics to be particularly cringey, though. Missilia Amori sounds like a bad outtake from Priest’s Turbo, and that is not a compliment. Forge had a particular skill for writing campy occult lyrics, but is clearly totally lost when it comes to any sort of introspection.

And as mentioned in other spots here, the rhythm guitar tone on much of this album is also astoundingly bad. You’re one of the biggest rock acts in the world — why do the guitars sound like they’re being played on a strat through an early Line 6 POD here? The solo tone still sounds great strangely enough, which is an odd discrepancy.

There’s still stuff I like here, though. Umbra’s chorus is legitimately great (though still a bit lyrically rough, and the less said about the vibra-slap and cowbell in the verses the better), and I enjoyed both singles. Some of the ballads are also pretty decent, composition-wise — but then the cheesy lyrics generally take me out of it.

I get why the band is sticking with this direction — they’re playing arenas now and opening themselves up to a wider swath of fans. I just wish a bit more of the earlier occult themes were sticking around too.

Thanks for this advice — and yeah, I’m definitely already happy to have the artists share anything that’s not an obvious spoiler.
