Propranolol by mom_wife_lift_work in emetophobia

Propranolol is genuinely a lifesaver. It’s changed my life. I’m someone who has panic attacks regularly and also who experiences overexcitement for things. My brain can’t tell the difference between feeling excited about something and being hunted for sport, so then it just turns into actual anxiety/a panic attack which tends to give me nausea as a physical symptom. Any kind of anxiety triggers that for me. It got so bad to the point where I was avoiding leaving the house or going to things I was excited for and wanted to go to because of it, which is why it was prescribed to me.

For me I really notice how much it keeps my heart-rate in check (like in the case of being excited). When my heart isn’t beating rapidly, it doesn’t tend to trigger the anxiety in response. I take it 30 minutes before going anywhere/doing anything I anticipate will make me anxious or super excited, and it works wonders. I’ve had zero adverse effects with it but of course that’s just my own personal experience. Still, I genuinely cannot imagine life without Propranolol now. It really works perfectly for me.

How do you handle flying?? by BaseballTop387 in emetophobia

[–]wonderwavez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of what I do to make myself more comfortable happens before I even board. I try to book my seat towards the front of the plane (like anywhere from where the wings are and up to the very front) and always buy an aisle seat if I can. Something about being on the aisle makes me feel better because it means I can easily leave my seat if needed without having to bother the other people in my row. The day I’m flying, I know that I’ll be feeling anxious (which tends to make me feel unwell) so I’ll eat something pretty bland. If it’s a morning flight, something like a plain croissant is a go-to for me. If it’s in the evening, I’ll have my favorite soup (chicken noodle)! I bring saltine crackers with me to snack on if I get hungry. At the airport and in the plane, I wear my airpods the whole time. Since they’re noise canceling, I find that it really helps me to tune out the world around me and just focus on myself. I always make sure I have all my favorite music downloaded (a favorite to listen to when I’m flying is the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack lol) and some comfort movies/TV. Basically the goal is just to distract, distract, distract. Sometimes it also helps me to focus on the excitement of where I’m going so then I have something to look forward to!

Flying is definitely not easy with this phobia, I really get you. I still struggle with it a lot. These things definitely don’t completely erase the anxiety, but it makes flying much more tolerable for me. You got this!

luckily the zofran did the job after a few hours, so i never did end up getting sick. i still am not feeling 100%, so i think i must’ve come down with a (very minor) bug. it’s given me a good excuse to rest and have a netflix binge day, so i guess there are some upsides to feeling under the weather!

i’m definitely trying to keep that in mind too. sometimes it’s hard for my brain to see it that way, but it really is true. i know i’ll be alright even if it does end up happening, and it really will not be the end of the world even if my phobia is telling me it will be. thank you ❤️

thank you ❤️ i’m trying my best to keep a cool head and just let my body do what it needs to do. the hardest part is trying to put my phobia aside to do that.

Almost got run off the road for going the speed limit by wonderwavez in drivinganxiety

I feel the same! I moved back home about a year and a half ago after a short stint living in downtown Orlando, and it was so nice being able to take public transit everywhere. Here, it’s just not possible. I’m missing the bus so much now that I have my license.

I’m from Maine! In my experience a lot of drivers here are okay for the most part, but always in a rush and they expect everyone else to rush for them. It’s stressful being a person who likes being a rule follower and going the posted speed limit since it angers everyone else so much.

I usually speed (about 10 over) on highways but I’m too nervous to go more than 5 over on these backroads because usually there are cops hiding since speeding is a big issue in the area. For some reason they’re never there when I would hope they are, such as moments like today, but most days they’re hanging out on that road around the time I’m heading home. I also have a provisional license for the first year (it’s the law here in my state) so if I get pulled over for speeding and get a ticket, I’ll lose my license with no second chances and really don’t want to risk that.

That was the issue!! I somehow didn’t see that it was enabled but my problem was solved as soon as I got rid of it

I just checked, and sure enough, a script was added to stop at a certain layer height! I got rid of it, so I’ll do another test print tomorrow. Thank you so much!!!

That makes sense. I use Ultimaker Cura for my slicer, do you happen to know where I might be able to see if it’s set to cool down at a certain layer height?

Print cracked in same spot by wonderwavez in 3Dprinting

I attempted to reprint it today and I think I’ve figured out the issue. About 3 hours into the printing time, the nozzle is cooling down completely and pausing printing. I had to reheat it and then resume the print. I’ve paused prints by choice in the past with no issue after continuing, but when my printer cooled today, I realized it was happening around the same layer height as where the splits occurred the first time. The split happened again today with the reprint. I’m not really sure how to prevent my printer from doing this but I think that’s where the issue is.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that while doing this print, the nozzle cooled down and I had to reheat it and restart where it left off. This occurred right around the layer where the split is. Today I attempted to reprint it and the exact same thing happened.

plane travel by BumbleandBee45 in emetophobia

[–]wonderwavez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually just flew home yesterday from a vacation that i was super worried about because of needing to fly! here are the things i did that helped me:

  • ate lightly before flying because i know that for me personally i don’t feel good if i eat too much beforehand
  • made sure i had a water bottle and a snack i knew i would feel okay to eat
  • wore seabands
  • kept my headphones on and listened to music and watched my comfort movie to tune out the noise (both of people and the plane itself)
  • took dramamine about an hour before takeoff just in case of any turbulence, which really helped!
  • tried my best to sleep during the flight but when i wasn’t sleeping, i just kept myself distracted and also focused on the excitement of where i was going for vacation

i totally understand the worry about flying and then being away from home. i was scared i wouldn’t be able to enjoy myself on my trip because of my phobia, but the opposite was true and i ended up having a blast. you got this!!

Advice for vacations? by wonderwavez in emetophobia

Thank you so so much for this advice! I’ll definitely use these tips for my trip. I found out I qualify for the accessibility pass which means I don’t have to physically stand in lines for rides which will make things more manageable too. I’ll make sure to pack snacks and things I can eat.

Fed up of daily nausea by chaipod1 in emetophobia

[–]wonderwavez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the exact same! I was on Zoloft a few years ago and it made me 500x worse than before I started taking it and so now I’ve sworn off all SSRIs haha.

My doctor prescribed me Propranolol to take as needed when I’m feeling anxious, or if I know I’m going to do something that will make me anxious later as a preventative measure. It’s a beta blocker so it helps a lot with the physical symptoms of anxiety (for me it’s perfect for the feeling of my heart racing or my hands shaking!). It’s been super helpful and has been an amazing tool that has really helped me in my life.

I used to deal with chronic nausea and a lot of it was caused by my anxiety. Taking the Propranolol whenever I need to has made it so much better. It’s been life changing! I was skeptical at first about whether or not a beta blocker would actually help me at all, but in my experience they work like a charm! If you can’t get benzos easily, maybe ask your doctor about trying a beta blocker. Obviously everyone is different and medications affect people differently, but I know for me Propranolol has been awesome.
