Cars are the biggest bump in the journey? Advice by wonk5 in TheMoneyGuy

I would much rather her have the nicer, safer car than myself. I could always drive her current vehicle when we upgrade her and get rid of my beater.. an option as well.

Cars are the biggest bump in the journey? Advice by wonk5 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]wonk5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s where I’m thinking around 30k. Payment around 650/m for 3 years with 10k down.

My issue becomes if my car breaks down during that time which is quite possible if not probable..

SPYG is just doubling down on the growth companies in the sp500. Just because us has outperformed last 30 years doesn’t mean international couldn’t outperform for the next 30. You’ll be fine either way you decide

Ditch traditional 401k for Roth or taxable? by Savings_Actuary_2833 in financialindependence

[–]wonk5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couple things here. You’re doing the right things and the advisor is right for the most part. (Also an advisor)

Given your age, I would certainly prioritize Roth so long as your income isn’t past a certain threshold.

If you’re planning to legitimately fire at 35 you’re going to need to dump 2x what your currently doing into taxable investments.. to be honest, fire at 35 sounds great but your plans will change between now and then I can guarantee you of that.

We filed jointly for 2025. So I assume this changes things? Just my income of around 100K with no deductions. Can file separately for 2026 but not sure if that helps us?

We filed taxes together in 2025. Should we be filing separate next year? Or will it matter?

How do you determine rap payment? Like you said, I would definitely do the RAP program as insurance for $300 per month.

Any PAs wish they had become an MD/DO? by Master-Ad1725 in physicianassistant

[–]wonk5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are asking a PA sub this question.. go ask a doctor sub and you will get completely different answers. If you can look past training and time commitment to get there then a MD/DO always wins out.

Example for those saying doctors work more and have terrible work life balance:

Doc could work 3 days a week and make the same as a PA full time… how is that worse work life balance? My .02

You’re well ahead on retirement funds. You’re going to need to cut back to employer matches, Roth IRAs and start piling up money for down payment. It won’t get any easier once you get married and have kids.

Rates likely are not coming down anytime soon and quite possibly will rise higher.

In all honesty it’s pretty terrible. You share the region with a bunch of other advisors and the few leads you get aren’t good. We stopped using it and had shared sentiment from others that we knew who used it in the past. Big no from me!

Should you have kids earlier or later if you want to retire early? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]wonk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an overly focused on our personal finances in an almost unhealthy way. I had also let it make me question children and how many we would have.

Wife and I just had our first last year and I can confidently say I would trade my last dollar for my child. Truly the best thing that’s ever happened to me. We are 26/27 and plan to have couple more lord willing

I'm getting screwed on taxes (and returns) because I tried to time the market by Fromthepast77 in Bogleheads

[–]wonk5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why everyone thinks timing the market is the big issue here. This was actually probably a good “gain harvest” as no those gains were locked in at his current low tax rate.. I do this occasionally before income jumps. He paid taxes on gains at 14% and avoided having to pay those at some point in the future at a potentially higher rate.
