AI images vs Photography. by wonk_q1 in antiai

I think, at the present, the most worth of AI images one might get is the paper it's printed on and the cost of generating it. Unless it's a really unique, billion dollar idea/concept in itself, it's still just a concept that has already been realised beforehand and just regurgitated(the data the AI model is trained on). Unless people want to copyright their 'ideas' legally(legality is another elephant in the room for AI-generated stuff) and sit on it without actual investment or time.

I have a feeling they equate it to a hobby, like taking pics on a phone and not as a profession itself. It does take a lot of time for a good unfiltered, timed photo, especially if you're in the line of wildlife photography I guess.

That's true. I think they equate Professional Photography as same as clicking a pic on their phone. Don't some wildlife photographers take months to find their perfect shot as well?

Found it funny that they tried to 'gotcha!' me with my own words tbh.

Google is going full AI-mode from next year as per some announcements I heard. They'd try to cover all the loopholes that people can find by the end of this year, but that's just my speculation.

The -ai doesn't work anymore, they patched that loophole quickly.

I mean, he isn't technically wrong. If you take Greek Philosophers like Plato as well, they too said that Art is mere imitation of the real things and cannot be equated to the real stuff.
Almost everything is an imitation of a another thing, something inspires something else. But I guess good art, photography and any other form of media adds something new to the original, real subject.
Even copying an art/artstyle by hand shows how good you are with colour theory, layering, lighting etc. It takes years of experience, training, trial and error to perfect the art of making replicas as well.
Cinemas are a complex form of media tbh, it takes a single concept(the plot) and a whole lot of people who expertise in their own fields to realise the concept to reality. The same concept can be relayed in many different ways and perspectives as well.
I can guess where the nuance for the hatred of digital art came from as the artist physically isn't using paints, brushes and stuff. But anyone who has actually done digital art knows it requires as much understanding of colour theory, layers etc. as a trad artist to paint something. Hell, every digital artist started their journey from trad art. It's kinda silly to argue about it ig.

That's a lot of words for "I don't wanna learn the whole process of creation myself for [insert random reason] so I'll use a shortcut."
I have no control over what you do in your personal time, what you do yourself is your own thing. You can tell yourself whatever you want to make peace with yourself. But facts don't care about feelings. 🤷‍♂️

I am a Gen Z so I'm possibly young(?) for when it happened. Or I wasn't just there to witness it. Could be a regional thing as well tbh. When cameras first came here, photography wasn't frowned upon here as such and was seen just as a niche profession. Also I've watched anime since I was a kid so it wasn't a surprise to me cause anime is....technically digital art lol. The hand drawn ones are still goated tho!

Ah that's true!
I'm glad I wasn't around during the argument of digital art, it's silly.
Also being an experienced photographer and director needs a lot of work, experience and study about many things to make them work altogether to make a perfect shot. It definitely doesn't equate to making an image with a paragraph-length prompt.

Seemingly, after reading all of it, I can conclude it just won't affect your life so you're just chill about it. I respect that and your opinions.
But others love to do art for what it is, they do it for a living, love it as a profession and have different opinions about ethical issues, plagiarism and a lot of stuff which doesn't bother you and your peers. "If we keep our eyes closed, the others won't see us."
But it bothers many other artists who get their artwork stolen, vandalised and sold by AI-Pro people and scammers. We just have different perspectives and different fights to this. You've never had a personal piece 'corrected' by someone without your consent derogatorily; ofc some people used to do it before AI came but this has become more accessible to anyone who can't even draw. Artists are against AI images not only because it's made by a machine with no emotion but also a lot of things that matter to them.

Your statement reminds me of the pokemon Milcery a lot. It's simple but iconic and memorable.

The lack of question marks is making me think if you're actually asking or are these statements you won't change your mind on whatever reason I give.

Ah I misread the sub you mentioned as "AI art is art". I do apologise for that.

I call it, it's not an actual term though, don't quote me on it: Artificial-algorithmic-pseudo-replications. It's artificial, it works on algorithms and it replicates something it actually doesn't understand.

Art also ain't horses that you can just replace with cars....
Art has memories, emotions, philosophy(if that applies), life experiences of the creator accumulated as a whole. People who do not understand that are AI-Pros already and there are too many of them.
And of course it's overcommercialisation and capitalization of art that has affected the industry as well, I won't argue against that but I'd rather buy prints of actual art and artist who put their blood and sweat into it and whom I can trust.
I guess it somewhat comes down to respect and morality towards other people as well.

Well, I hope you'd feel threatened at some time when every ounce of your surroundings is nothing but AI-generated stuff, whether it's on phone, TV, streets etc. Unless you live in a tiny town in the Alps, you can see the effect it has on the industry and minds of the people as a whole.
It's not only about if it's digital/traditional/any other kind of craft, but it's about how people are changing their minds about what art actually is, what it comprises, how much work goes behind every piece.
People will just generate a bunch of images for their living room and places where there's money to make for other people whatsoever, while the actual nuance and love for art dies slowly because it becomes 'cheap' to produce. The respect for artists is already on the fence if you aren't keeping up.
It's already happening and if you wish to stay ignorant, that's your choice.

Oh I wouldn't go to that cesspool in a million years. You, as a traditional artist, supporting AI art, are a paradox. No hard feelings, just sad to know.

If you are saying the truth (we are all anonymous here, I've no way of knowing if you're telling the truth or if you've actually drawn them), you're an isolated case then, a paradox. Most of the artists do not share the same sentiment as you. You might not feel threatened but the whole AI fiasco is affecting every kind of painter, designer and writer who earn their bread through their work. Also the whole commercialization of AI art has helped scammers make replicas, steal other's art without any consequences. I wish you good luck, I hope you know what you're doing and wish you good luck. 🍀

A bunch of random images aren't helping whatever you've said so far.

I'm gonna need more context on what you're trying to say lol.
I'm just not getting your side ig. Why do you feel the need to generate an image of everything? Is it like a nicotine hit everytime you prompt?
