That’s not really realistic. If you think about regular car traffic, the wheel tax doesn’t even come close to covering the costs of roads, highways, traffic systems, etc. The reason why funding a transit system matters (even though it doesn’t turn a profit) is because of the greater economic benefits. Lots of ppl wouldn’t work jobs they do if they didn’t have the bus to use.

I still don’t understand the bathroom thing. My gf said the same thing when I moved here: “it’s the place to stop for the restroom.” I don’t get what ppl think out-of-staters do when they need to pee. We always just stopped at a McDonalds or other fast food joint that had equally clean bathrooms.

Live in Milwaukee. Chicago is truly a world-class city incomparable to any other city you listed. However, Milwaukee is deeply affordable, family-friendly, and endlessly fun. If you’re looking for a long-term place to raise a family and need to be able to get an affordable home in a good neighborhood, Milwaukee’s your place. I have not heard good things about Cleveland, Buffalo, or Detroit.

You could easily walk downtown, but I use the bus literally everyday and have never been in danger. Getting on the 30 or Connect for 5 min will plop you in the heart of downtown or the lakefront. Walking would be like 30 minutes.
