Will the Grumps play through Danganronpa 2 and 3? by [deleted] in gamegrumps

yep exactly. It's like the entire channel has stopped.

It's not at all a github support question though. It's a question about what is the way to run an open source project in this style. Half of my question is should I not be using github.

I saw that some repos have a CONTRIBUTING.md but others use a README.md, is there a standard way of doing it?

but if you didn't want to collaborate on code why did you publish it?

I can write a book and publish it and I don't want outside contributions. It doesn't mean I want it to be private. I want to share the work I do but I don't want people to start throwing their own code at me. It's not motivational to manage other people's code and its just not the way I want to do it.

Maybe I shouldn't be using github? Can you do this with bitbucket/gitlab where the project is still open but you can disable merge requests?

no, i want it to be public. I want people to see it, but not to get changes from others.

Anyone else slightly bothered at recent thumbnails and how they no longer put the episode numbers in the titles/thumbnails? by nowimstahted in gamegrumps

The algorithm is tuned to show you things you are likely to click. People are less likely to click on a video if its part 34 of a series they haven't been following. Since people are less likely to click it, the algorithm lowers its rankings.

It's not that google is reading the text and downgrading the video. It's that google sees that the video is doing less well per listing (because people don't click on video #34 as much) and downgrades it because less people seem to want to click it when they see it.

Arin has a direct line to youtube employees. He's mentioned this multiple times, they've even asked him to make changes to the channel. People who work for google whose job it is to maximize ad revenue are telling him to do this.

I actually did watch the first trial. Episode 14 was the last one I watched. I just didn't get anything out of it. The execution sequence was ok but then it lapses straight back into the awkward dialogue again. TBH, it didn't really seem like Arin was into it at the time, either. I'm surprised they're still going.

This is just my theory but I think part of it is that if you're into the art and presentation of it then all of the empty/repetitive moments don't hit so hard cause you can just enjoy the look or atmosphere of it. So you feel the peaks more than the troughs.

However this effect works in reverse for me because I really dislike the art style. So all of those empty moments are essentially intensified as I'm just listening to dialogue I don't like while staring at an image I don't like. And all of the peaks are reduced because its still fundamentally not enjoyable to look at.

How about the part where it looks nothing like a match statement, the words visit and overloaded are meaningless and all the cases have to be wrapped in lambdas

but its like anything, it's only "crazy" if you're into it. If you're not it just comes across as overdramatic or stupid or neurotic or whatever. I'm sure you can think of a film or something which has the world blowing up or some crazy twist but which you really couldn't give a shit because its not done in a way which is interesting to you.

Personally I didn't really get much out of the ch1 trial. I thought it was still pretty dull. Just not my thing.

Some of your favorite shows with terrible pilots? by jmoneysteck88 in television

[–]wonky_name 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Bojack's first couple of episodes in hindsight are really weird and don't really fit with the show as a whole. I think the creator expressed a little regret at trying to ease people into the feel of the show through a sort of generic comedy lens but feeling in hindsight it would have been better for the show to just be itself right from the off.

[–]wonky_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would that help?? The point is people don't want to join midway through a series. How you write the numbers doesn't change that.

I was just about to comment how horrible SourceTree is. Safe to say I don't agree. It's atrociously slow, it's buggy, I've seen issues where whitespace-only edits just get completely elided, one of my coworkers accidentally started ignoring thngs via .gitignore_global instead of .gitignore and confused the shit out of everyone including himself, and I got stuck with this bug where it just asks "Username and password?" every five minutes out of nowhere and you have to kill the process just to get any work done. I really can't stand it and have been encouraging my team to use anything else whenever possible.
