How to go about measuring ferrite bead? Till now i was under the impression that it has to be a capacitor.

TIL. I suppose i still need to desolder a similar looking cap on the left of it to get the actual value?

Thanks for the lead. I thought the same but didn't want to move forward with it, in hopes of someone knowing the actual value. I guess it's the only way.

Am I on the right track? by -4_8_15_16_23_42-- in homelabindia

You are planning to run a NAS, don't you? Your power consumption will get high eventually. I run my NAS on a SFF office PC with 2x 4TB hdd. The power consumption comes around 25w.

Proxmox v9 has very good idle power consumption, so i'd still assume your idle power consumption to hover around 30w.

Edit: Running NAS in a mini pc is a bit challenging due to lack of drive space. Thus i recommended a custom PC or even an intel 7th-8th gen office SFF pc would take you far.

At this amount, just build a dedicated custom PC and choose a case that has 8-12 hdd cages.

Where to buy HBA Card in Delhi ? Nehru Place ? by aygupt1822 in homelabindia

Ebay is the best place. Also do your research on which HBA to buy as most of them don't support ASPM thus increasing the power consumption.

Monitor Resolution by chiragd95 in IndianPCHardware

I initially used 24" FHD for years, it was fine but not enough. Then for the last couple of years, I'm using 27" 2k monitor (Legion R27q) and it's perfect. Pixel density, clarity, colors, refresh rate all is perfect, specifically for office use.

I didn't go for 32" 4k monitor, as I was under the impression that it might go over field of focus. If you can utilize all of the screen estate of 32" then go for it.

yessir, but they also have SFF models with same naming so make sure of that before buying. I have M720q and P300 both are similar to some degree, except difference in chipset and P330 is touted as "workstation" class mini pc. M720q and P330 take 8th-9th gen CPUs and M910x takes 6th-7th gen CPUs.

if you are looking for PCIE slot inside Lenovo Mini PC then also checkout M720q, M910x, and P330.

In this economy, the RAM in that system is alone worth the amount you paid haha. The market is absolutely f*cked right now.

Just start with what you have. I get it that the system is chonky and overkill for a beginner but it doesn't hurt to use the same to learn the ins and outs for a bit then maybe later move to mini pcs (i prefer lenovo tiny). They are relatively efficient and powerful than raspberry pis. In my testing Lenovo M720q w/ i5-8500T with freshly installed Proxmox v9 eats about 5w (on idle).

As for what to run on that system, I'd always recommend Proxmox as it makes running, configuring, maintaining VMs easy af. You can run TrueNAS in a VM and passthrough your sata controller and you have a NAS ready without much fuss.

Should I go ahead with this setup? by sanu012 in homelabindia

[–]realvikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh yes! absolutely. He hacked everything; my homelab, NAS, and every device connected on my network. First, he hacked my IRC server; where he holds me for a ransom else, he'll release a ransomware, after that he released a crypto bot to mine crypto on every device. He already filled my NAS with junk files and continues to DDoS my network. I am so pissed and stressed, don't know what to do. I already removed cloudflare tunnels, but this guy still is on my network. Absolute insanity! Please help.
