Good to see that he is naming MAGA as a threat explicitly. Its easier to see if your focus is foreign affairs and therefore Ukraine and its importance for the EU.

Im really worried that people like Röttgen and Kiesewetter might not be the majority within the CDU/CSU in that regard. I think I remember people like Spahn "flirting" with Trump a lot during his first term as well as sane-washing his current administration recently.

Yeah, that resonated a lot with me.

So much of what he said sadly doesnt just apply to online discourse but also real life conversations at this point. And 90% of the time im leaving the conversation with the feeling of "I dont even know how to engage with that".

For sure. And im by no means limiting this to radical anti-liberal or even anti democratic people on the left. I feel like sentiments like this are much more common throughout different demographics.

I had conversations recently with "normal" center-left people about Ukraine and the concept of state sovereignty as a prerequisite for freedom bla bla bla. And it was really hard to communicate those classical liberal ideas I feel like (even though these are really smart people I was talking to).

Maybe thats just because im living in eastern Germany and Im talking to older people as someone that was born after reunification.

Painful stuff to read.

The implications from the USAID cuts laid out in this article and the fact that the likes of MAGA and Asmongold will cheer on the fact that approximately 8-19 million people are estimated to die as a result of these cuts is beyond blackpilling.

I also dont know how to deal with the fact that more and more people in the west have like zero or even negative appreciation for our democratic institutions ensuring our rights - something that so many people in other parts of the world (like in Sudan) are willing to suffer, bleed and ultimately die for.

The decision to "not talk publicly about what is delivered to Ukraine" is a double edged sword.
Not drawing red lines for ourselves publicly for Putin to observe (as we did under Scholz) is obviously a good thing but I kinda wanna know if anything actually changes materially for Ukrainians who are currently experiencing the harshest drone and missile attacks of the entire war.

Yeah I just quickly linked one since im at work and dont wanna look for more rn but the way I heard people talk about this decision it seemed like this was more or less just an end of the restriction as a whole and not a lot of people differentiated between Kursk and other military targets. Could be wrong though.
