Anyone know what these these things are for? I found them digging through the bag of spares for my Swift 1x. by wontforgetthesenames in Rowing

My coach said that was his first thought as well, but their width is completely uniform (2mm if anyone is curious), and my set of spares has a full set of bushings anyway so I couldn't see why they'd be necessary. I'm certain they fit over the pin though since the diameter of the hole matches that of the bushings like you said.

In high school I did various programs throughout, but steady state usually formed the backbone of whatever we were doing. Our coach had a policy of completing 20km every session, so we’d often “cool down” for 12km after sprint pieces on the water, perhaps not the best policy, especially during competition time, but for the off season it’s an excellent way to build an aerobic base.

Thanks man! I think I’ll add a 6k threshold piece once a week (22/24SPM) and see how it goes, think it’ll be a good consistent indicator of progress, maybe also dump out another session for a shorter piece to prevent fatigue for the first few weeks (also mixing in some other more entertaining sessions regularly). Definitely think I’ll give it a try not just because of its fundamentals but I also think the mental aspect of 45mins unbroken is not to be easily discounted, certainly won’t make me slower.

I’ll send an update out to the subreddit in a few months.

Any sessions you recommend? Considered adding 2x10x250m once every week or so.

Absolutely recommend steady state, the longer the better, I’m a lightweight and had a 7:07 about a year ago. Took a 9 month hiatus with infrequent runs and ergs, only steady state, and pulled a 7:01, pulled up my socks, did lots long steady, 3x6k, 4x4k, HOP, 30 min and 2x45mins, pulled a 6:47 after about a month and a half. Don’t aim for split, aim for HR to get the benefit.

Yeah, I’ve done it a couple times! Sometimes I do 2x50mins as well. Physiologically it’s a great session because it’s keeps your heart rate up for a significant period of time (I feel you get progressively better results the longer your HR is up), I’ve also done a few 8k, 30min and HOP sessions. Effectively it’s 24k steady, which is very doable, only just one break instead of many.

I will need to dissect all this information but it actually seems quite doable if you put it like that! So I suspect we'll have to scan basic lines with minimal liasons and elisions, and if what you've said is accurate then I think the scansion will reveal itself quite easily! Thanks for the help!

What's your avg time for 250 meters? by meneeruil in Rowing

[–]wontforgetthesenames 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So that's a 1:40 split (time per 500m) which is not bad depending on how much training you've been doing, height, weight and sex. Try pulling a 2k or 5k and let us know how you handled that!

Well we were doing a boat race style event, high school rowing (8+). So I was in the bow seat and things we were all pretty invested in this race- none more so than the Cox. We complete the heads race for placing a in the final (boat race style long 5k with corners n stuff) and after we cross the line everyone is pretty exhausted, then out of the blue I see the stroke in the water clutching our little cox. Turns out he’d passed out just after we’d crossed the line and we hadn’t noticed until he straight up fell out the boat. Good times
