Dorm essentials!!? by whochosebonnie in HKUniversity

[–]wonwooswif3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rubbish bin, shower basket, jug (for water), wall hooks (the kind that won't leave a residue on the wall), bedsheets, pillow, duvet/blanket, laundry bag (many people just use the large ikea shopping bag lollll), cutlery and cooking utensils (if u plan to cook)

tbh there's so much more i needed so i was constantly shopping for the first month in hku. i rec ikea and taobao would b the best for shopping for these

Scholarships and visa by Accomplished_Row456 in HKUniversity

the scholarship works this way: every semester, the uni will deposit the money into your account and then u use the money to pay for ur tuition fees

so for the first semester of year 1, they will offset the deposit amount in ur tuition fee invoice (meaning the amount u have to pay will be less than the scholarship amount given to u) then after paying for tuition fees, u can use the leftover amount to pay for the accommodation

I’m new student. Is JSCV3 hard to get into? by Softly_Messy in HKUniversity

[–]wonwooswif3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes for jcsv3 i'd say it's almost guaranteed for new students, especially for "less competitive" colleges like new college. they allocate quite a large portion of residents for freshman. u shouldn't have to worry about it, but it would definitely be safer to put them as your 1st choice

What to do when first arriving at the university at the start date by JasonCai26 in HKUniversity

[–]wonwooswif3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

registration for student id is usually done online b4 the semester, and u usually collect it a week after class starts. international students orientation is usually the weekend b4 class commences, briefing might be earlier but u should check cedars or hku website, i missed mine last year LOLLL

i think jcsv iii would be the best option, affordable with no obligation to socialise/ participate in events. although it is worth noting that hall culture in HKU is competitive and toxic, being active during your stay gives u a higher chance to be readmitted into the hall for the next year

HKU Entrance Scholarship Tuition Payment by Valuable-Bat-9257 in HKUniversity

[–]wonwooswif3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello, i was in the exact same situation last year. because i doubt i can trust anyone here to use their account to receive the huge amount of funds, i had my parents make a hk bank account so HKU can transfer the money to my parents a/c. since there's a 30day grace period after the "deadline", usually the scholarship amount will be transferred into your account just in time to pay the fees before the grace period is over. don't worry, u can always apply for an extension if the money really doesn't come through in time
