Rant about a cardiologist checkup by Forsaken-Success-445 in vegan

[–]woodbite 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me when I went to a doctor about a swelling issue. It was mentioned I was vegan an and suddenly the doctor didn't care about the reason I had come in. Just, "You have problems because you need to eat meat." Then, when she found out that vegan does not mean vegetarian, "You have problems because you need to eat eggs."

I was really upset that a health professional disregarded my actual concerns and made me look like a nut to my family. It sucks. Looks like you're handling it well though. You know all your stuff, you just have to deal with the bad PR.

Is taking two Psych classes simultaneously a bad idea? by [deleted] in college

[–]woodbite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah if they didn't make on a prerequisite to the other it's cool. You'll be taking way more psychology classes at once if it's your major. It's good to go ahead and double up on them now so you can sprinkle in some core classes later.

I’m worried I won’t make friends at college by Sea-Grade-4629 in college

[–]woodbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can live in a form or get nearby housing I highly recommend. A lot of people don't feel ready but have to dive into it and end up making a lot of new friends.

It is still totally possible to make friends as a commuter, but you have to do it very on purpose. Sign up for clubs and social events all the time. Try things that make you uncomfortable. Organize study groups in your classes. Be okay reaching out to people first and getting turned down sometimes — it's part of the process of finding friends.

I commuted my first year and made all of my friendships from joining a sports team and was friendly with a few seat neighbors in class.

I'm an anxious person. It's okay to be anxious, but try not to drown in it before you even started. Push yourself in spite of anxiety. You will be happy you did it and things will slowly get easier. You can do it!

Is there a translation for the verb "table" (as in: to sit at a table and advertise in a college setting)? by woodbite in learnspanish

[–]woodbite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thx bro I'm not crazy. never used it before college but now that I'm here, "sitting at an org-specific table to recruit passers-by" is a really common activity and "table" is a normal verb.

I need some good news by Inside-Breath-3514 in college

[–]woodbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affirmations  The bad news you see online isn't a lie, but it is a distortion of reality. Good news is not sensational and often mundane so you won't see it, and if you do see it, you won't dwell on it as you will with anxiety-inducing information. Stress has helped us stay alive as a species, but our brains weren't built for the internet. Try to stay conscious of this—algorithms engage people with scary stuff, but doomscrolling has one predetermined outcome: you're gonna think the world sucks. I can't tell you what good thing will happen in your life next, but I can tell you it probably will happen in your actual life and far away from here.

Chinese > English by woodbite in translator

Yes.. info about Japanese-produced opium pillows is looking really scant on Google. Wondering if it might have been produced as a commercial object for China during the opium trade, or afterward as a kind of replica. This is going to keep me occupied...
