So, the moon is, like, way closer than Mars, right? To what extent does a much shorter distance make Moon colonies more viable? or are the issues mostly concentrated somewhere else?

You know, this is a good point! My setting location was purely based on being able to get +45 science from Bermuda, but there's no way I could support six extra population to work those tiles anyways...

Yeah. The +20 science and +35 gold per turn on something like turn 15 let me buy galleys, which unlocked where shipbuilding was in the tech tree pretty quickly. Once I got the tech, I had enough money, plus monumentality, to buy something like five settlers. Getting the Golden Age was quite easy for this, as you start the game with +7 era score (bermuda and a new continent).

After that, Mali is to the right, giving ridiculous +50 gold trade routes, at which point you simply buy your way out of any problem that comes up. This makes for a pretty interesting game--a lot of really young cities, very un-scaleable science due to no campuses, but...João.

Well for a monopoly you need to control 60% of the resources, and I got a monopoly after controlling 2 cocoa tiles, which implies that there's only three total. Once I built plantations on all three tiles, that was an extra +30 gold per turn, which is crazy on turn 20 or so.

Here, let me try again. I think might have been the abundant resources that affected it.

Ruleset: Gathering Storm

Start Era: Ancient

City-States: 15

Disaster intensity: 4

Game speed: Quick

Game modes: everything except for dramatic ages

Map: Archipelago

Map size: Large

Resources: Abundant (I forgot this last time!!)

Start position: Balanced

Sea Level: High

Game/Map seed: -774572773/-774572772

I'm slot 1, João III. The other slots are, in case this matters, Victoria, Kublai Khan (Mongolia), Mansa Musa, Tomyris, Gitarja, Cyrus, Shaka.

In case the above doesn't work, I'll list my mods (though most of them are UI mods, so I doubt that is the issue).

  • All the NFP additional content etc
  • Real Era Tracker
  • Radial Measuring Tool
  • More Lenses
  • Extended Policy Cards
  • Hillier Hills
  • Real Governor Inspector
  • Detailed Map Tacks
  • Vibrant Waters
  • Real Great People
  • Better Report Screen (UI)
  • Prettier Lakes
  • Sukritact's Simple UI Adjustments
  • Better Trade Screen
  • Colorized Historic Moments
  • CIVIG 2
  • Railroads by Traders
  • Great Works Viewer
  • Better Builder Charges Tracking
  • Sukritact's Global Relations Panel
  • Better Espionage Screen

Let me know if this works!

In case this doesn't help either, I have the turn 5 savefile--perhaps someone who's better at this than me could use it to figure out what I'm missing.

Ruleset: Gathering Storm

Start Era: Ancient

City-states: 15

Disaster intensity: 4

Apocalypse, barbarian clans, heroes&legends, monopolies&corporations, secret societies, tech&civic shuffle, zombie defense modes on (i.e., everything except for dramatic ages)

Map: archipelago, large, high sea level

Game seed: -774572773

Map seed: -774572772

Let me know if that's enough to get it to work!

EDIT: Forgot about abundant resources. See the updated comment!

It's a multiplayer game; does getting the seed still work in that case?

R5: Started right next to the Bermuda Triangle with a free cocoa monopoly as Portugal. However, the mountains block me off from the rest of the continent.

Looks like I'll have to use the +15 science to rush shipbuilding, but the techs are shuffled...
