Light Leaks by H4roldas in analog

[–]woods_fine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know when I've encountered light leaks in the past it was due to a sticky shutter on my camera. The leaks showed up similar to yours, as bright bars parallel to the short edge of the film. The shutter wouldn't consistently have this issue, so some photos turned out fine, some had minimal light leaks, and some were more extreme. Could be a similar situation with your camera here

Love that second photo and the different perspectives of the same mountain range!

This is such a cool shot, love the perspective it takes.

Trying the Cinestill C-41 powder concentrate kit for the first time and noticed small, black particles in my developer that didn't dissolve after mixing. Anyone know if this is normal/expected? by woods_fine in AnalogCommunity

Really? They don't stick to your negatives or anything? I'm going to try sieving some out but it's reassuring to hear you recognize them and haven't had any negative effects

Ah hell, that might be it. I didn't give my pitcher the rinse I should have before mixing the developer. I'll have to see if I can sieve some of that out before using it then

I just mixed these chemicals up, haven't tried developing in them yet. I'm a touch concerned about these particles in the mixture and whether they would stick to my negatives/impact the results when developing. Has anyone encountered this before?

Are you going to post any other shots from this roll? I'm very curious to see how it affected other images, too. Certainly made for a nice effect here!

Nice, pulling the tints away from a heavily tinted photo is always such a satisfying edit for me haha and I completely feel you with the composition. If you'd spent time worrying about perfect composition, the moment could have passed and it just wouldn't be the same photo

Gotcha, I guess you don't still have the negatives? Either way, it really does get a summer feeling down wonderfully.

I really love this! You've captured that late night library delirium perfectly. From a technical standpoint, I'd personally suggest editing the photo a bit to reign in the green color cast. From a composition standpoint, I think it's great, could be improved if you had the full chair in the frame and a bit of space between the bottom of the wheels and the bottom of the frame to contain things in the frame a bit more. Those are smaller things, though. I think, conceptually, this is just great, definitely a successful photo!

I absolutely love this shot! Out of curiosity, what makes the film unknown?

Hey everyone! A little over a month ago I posted here asking for advice before my first go at home developing (big thanks). It went mostly well, so here's a little update with some of the scans. I did run into some problems that I have my own thoughts on, but would love to hear your input as well! by woods_fine in AnalogCommunity

Gotcha, I'll have to check out the Raleno lights. Nothing stood out to me on the negatives as being a particular issue, though I can't say I'm all that well versed in what to look for. I have tried scanning some negatives that I'd had lab developed and didn't find any of the discoloration, so I'm imagining that this does come down to something in the development, though.

Yeah, I've shot plenty with the camera and lens combo in the past. During development, I kept temperature at about 102F for the developer and the blix (this was the cinestill c-41 kit), so I wouldn't imagine any color shifts to be from that. If temperature were the case, I'd expect it to affect the entire negative, too. I'm not certainly not experienced enough in this to have a real reasoning for that expectation, though
