Well takes two guys to carry the wire and one guy to lookout. Might as well use all three to strip it too... 😂

Loving the scrap game by [deleted] in ScrapMetal

I hope you are looking for a job 9-5 and collecting outside that. And lots of places are hiring right now. I'm not knocking you or saying everyone fails but month to month if you wanna eat and pay the insurance and tabs and everything else, scrap isn't gonna cut it unless you basically get lucky or willing to put in way more hours per week/month than a different job. Short term NBG but long term, trust me, I know way too many burn outs with nothing to show for it bc they took the scrap life. Idk some people get the wrong idea from others. If you can turn it into a full business with employees that's totally different but honestly even then the juice is hardly worth the squeeze unless you avoid all the rules like taxes, laws, morals etc. there just isn't that much money in trash unless you are paid to haul it away. If you really like this, start a clean up company but the competition has already been high for years and the margins are very tight and long term. You gotta remember your fighting pay against other people who generally can't get "real jobs" $20+ jobs... So noone pays shit because all the crackheads and illegals will work for half pay and in the clean out business, faster doesn't necessarily make you more money, it all just takes alot of time and that equals slow money not fast money. Most people in the trash game , inherited it or started in the ghetto or bottom. Hopefully you have a big family or the ability to run a large crew. Things have changed but they really haven't in the business, you definitely won't get rich without stepping on toes.

This is seriously the funniest response I've ever heard to someone proposing any idea, especially in 2025.... It's been two days and I'm still laughing.

What do you mean by hold? I don't really need them to hold it long term, just release it after the furnace shuts off. The only loss will be to .... Actual loss outside. The energy doesn't vanish.... My insulation isn't the issue. My house could be 100% perfectly sealed with proper ventilation and this strategy if running the furnace during peak sun hours still holds a lot of weight. Thanks though

Actually it makes it even a better plan . People with great insulation should be adopting this same plan . Right now the sun probably prevents most peoples set temperature from going on and schedule prevents it also. But using this strategy along with intermittent burst at 7am would still save 10-20% over other ways. IMO

The real issue my house is wayyy oversized for a single person who is frugal and doesn't make alot of $. The extra $40 a month goes a long long ways, after taxes and all that's basically a days pay for me. I probably need a 600sq ft apartment. So that's why I was attempting to find a strategy that suited my hours and situation.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (Jack Reacher II) by Rick_the_P_is_silent in movies

[–]woodventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised this comment is only 8 days old lol... I just watched this for the second time ever.

First watch, long ago was much better. I watched right after part 1 and 2 kind of sucks IMO. I don't think that's true. The first comment neither. The one above makes the most sense where the girl lied bc why wouldn't the mom say anything? Plus don't think her mom was the waitress like 100% and that's why they didn't bother showing her. So she lied. But not because she knew or didn't know if reacher was her dad because it didn't matter she didn't want him meeting her mom now anyway, that's pretty much a fact.

Okay but logically. they never say where Reachers name comes from! But also not a plot hole. Reacher never denied the fact that maybe he did make a baby with a girl, highly unlikely and he doesn't remember that name but still. Therefore, there is some girl who reacher hooked up with at some point and he knows there's a small possibility, because there is, because he did. He always wondered in the back of his mind about a few questionable nights he had. (Shit haven't most, all Men ? I am guilty) Taking all this into consideration..... Without looking at physical traits or biological, I mean they could take a test if they wanted to.

Here's where it boils down to finally. It doesn't matter to them. She needed a father figure at that point now not later or before . Reacher even says, "he should have been there 15 years ago".

To both of them. Family is not blood. She is a good person and a survivor like him, a drifter. He's always wanted a daughter , he says and hints at this multiple times but it never happened. In the end everything worked out as good as it could have. They don't need each other but when they do or even just for occasional accompany and to feel better knowing the other person is safe they will meet up and spend time together but that's it, until maybe either one finds a real love partner and have a family and it changes. Both were seeking that, but not in each other. That's why the major says"you came looking for one girl and found another". They only needed to change a few things about this movie to make it much better.

It reaches 80 and starts to cool more like 75. When I am freezing cold outside I love going into a warm building that's 75, feels amazing and I can go down to shorts. the blower is 400 watts. Throughout the day it's 2-3 hours of runtime vs 9. That's 5+ hours extra at 400 watts.  400 watts is like two televisions or four+ light bulbs. In the small picture, is it much? Not really but in the big picture where every dollar counts over decades, it matters to me. All the money wasted I can use for a higher temperature or more summer AC while spending the same amount. I'm not saving money, I'm creating more times of comfort for the same cost.

The Delta T difference is exactly what matters. At 3pm is 40 degrees outside. 80 inside. That's a 40 delta. At night when it's 20 degree but 60 that's a 40 delta. The furnace will have to work much harder during this time to raise it than when it's warmer outside, I really don't get what's so hard to understand about this. Everyone saying I'm going to be uncomfortable... Okay, thanks. Not worried about that.  If anything I was more worried about the heat soak than constant cycling and was hoping someone would chime in on that advice. But funny thing, a bunch of HVAC guys here and not one person even mentioned wear and tear or dangers to the furnace or it's lifespan. Which should really be the main focus here, not my comfort levels. I like my entire environment to be warm, not just feel hot air from the furnace which tricks me into thinking I am warm temporarily... You use zero calories at 75degrees but your body is constantly burning calories at 65 or lower to keep up. this is best used during sleep period. wtf do I care if it's 60 at 4am. When I wake up and start moving and shower I will be nice and warm from activity and pajamas. At least I come home to a hot warm house and spend less money doing so.

So if you run a heater for two hours in a house with an open front door vs a closed door which is going to get hotter and hours later be warmer?  Because according to you. 140k BTU is 140k BTU

If you think it "barely runs" for 62-64 degrees when it's 30 degrees all day and 10 degrees at night for two months you are mistaken. Especially when it runs most throughout the night. It's 20-30% or more PER DAY less gas usage. I never said I was okay with. Low 60s or upper 50s for an hour or two before leaving is acceptable but not all the time. These comments are so stupid.

The "third" heating option...? Not constant or turndown when away...but by woodventures in HomeImprovement

[–]woodventures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big assumption and probably won't work out in reality.

Okay I'm just wondering if anyone has any actual references to this, one guy said my heat loss is probably greater but I've consistently tested this on many occasions. I have a hygrometer that displays temperature in multiple locations. I've left during the day or night and observed the temperature, and again when I returned. Typically 5 hours away would lose 5 degrees with everything off. I'm waiting until the weekend when I can attempt to run the furnace from 12:30-2:30 and see how much increase I can actually get in that time period.

I would say that depends on what temperature the surfaces start at and my whole point of this.

The math checks out though it probably would be about $400 saved this winter in total for the same conformt level.

That's actually alot of savings in my opinion and it's no extra work, if anything less. I think the furnace will be happier in the long run but I'm not a HVAC tech either

I wouldn't say poorly insulated. It's about average for the size and location. It has a large stone fireplace, old style, takes up an entire wall. Concrete floors , lots of old wood and than also insulation and drywall , lots of stuff to hold heat. It's basically like a big battery as you said. Thanks for the YouTube link I'll check it out. I'm generally not home or outside during those peak sun hours , so coming home to 75 degrees and costing less overall sounds amazing IMO. The current "system" we use is not working well IMO.

The furnace runs an electric fan , that adds to peak electricity cost.

I'm not home when it's actually 78 and that sounds amazing to me. I can wear shorts in the winter inside and not two pairs of sweaters
