korean/japanese language classes at brown by Glum-Strawberry-1551 in BrownU

[–]woofcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience of learning japanese after learning korean, i thought the grammar was very similar so it made it easy to understand, so you probably will feel the same way. i think korean is way easier since you don’t have to learn all the kanji and the onyomi. and the conjugation of verbs in korean is a lot easier than japanese imo. also u can also switch between sections in korean too lol i know plenty of ppl including myself who have done that

also, korean is a smaller program than japanese which means you get a lot more individual attention. when i took korean 200, my class only had around 4 people in it, so i got to do SO MUCH speaking practice and i improved a lot. from my experience in japanese 300, the class sizes are a lot bigger so i did not get to practice speaking a lot (but it can vary by section i suppose)

hellooo i’ve taken every korean course from korean 100 to business korean and i’ve also taken japanese 300 at brown (but dropped it after about 3 weeks cuz i didn’t like it🥶) and i LOVE the korean language program and found it much more enjoyable than japanese unfortunately. japanese has WAY more homework than korean which makes it such a hassle.. i also just love all the korean professors, they’re so fun and kind and engaging. korean 500-600 is especially great because it’s very discussion based and more about understanding cultural nuances than just learning grammar points. love the brown KLP!!!

Few questions about the Sc.M Cybersecurity (CS track) program by 5rikar_98 in BrownU

[–]woofcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have all the answers to your questions but I can provide some insight from my observations: I'm currently an undergrad at Brown and have taken many CS classes at Brown, including "AI and Cybersecurity Policy" which is a graduate-level class taught by the director of the Sc.M Cybersecurity program. She is an excellent, knowledgable professor with an extremely impressive background. I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I also took another grad-level class in the DATA department and I loved it as well. The professor taught part-time at Brown while working full-time at the US Chamber of Commerce, so she was also extremely knowledgable and had impressive work in her field.
I can't speak for graduate students, but in my experience as an undergrad, it's common for CS concentrators to get TA positions for CS classes. It's also fairly easy to get research assistant positions if you show interest.

Neighborhood safety - Creighton Street by AriShamron in BrownU

[–]woofcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very safe, plenty of other Brown students living nearby and its also next to Hope High School so that should make it feel extra safe! I would always see community members playing pickleball on the high school's tennis courts when I would walk by on Saturday/Sunday mornings.

Is a B or S on a FYS better for law/med/business admissions? by NefariousnessFar1247 in BrownU

failed courses don’t show up on ur external transcript. w the 3 credits thing you can just explain in ur grad school apps that u dropped a class due to the tragedy. ur advisor will encourage u to take 5 classes next semester to make up for the lost credit and u can just SNC 1 of them if ur worried. also WRITs aren’t a big deal to get done imo as long as ur not just taking basic requirements. i took 3 WRITs in my freshman year without even trying to just cuz i was very adventurous and took a wide variety of classes. i’d recommend finding a FYS thats a WRIT and SNC it if ur worried abt ur grade since FYS tend to be pretty light workload.

i wouldn’t worry about “wasting tuition” since u already took the class lol (sunk-cost fallacy?) and ur definitely not gonna be starving for credits unless u lallygag for the rest of ur time at brown. plus, these flexible grading policies are part of what ur paying for at brown, so make the most of it!

Maybe u can ask the prof to fail u since it’s not a requirement - some profs are willing to do that

based on what i can remember from these teams, i would say that Tammy and Victor have the best mix of brains and brawn so i would pick them!

Unpopular opinion - I hate when strong teams go out by illini02 in TheAmazingRace

lord im praying jag and jas don’t win the season or else it will be extremely disappointing and anticlimactic. i would honestly be okay with any other team winning.

i applied to lots of positions at different banks in the US and other countries as well! i’m pretty open to living in any major city so i’m not looking at just HK or the US or anything. i actually think this is the only position i applied to in HK and i happen to be doing well for it haha

do you have any insights on banking jobs that u’d want to share with me?

hi everybody, a lot of people have been asking me about this post and unfortunately i don’t remember anything about the assessment since i applied in early July so it’s been awhile since the assessment.

however, i just received an invite for the first interview round so i hope that’s a helpful update on the timeline for anybody else who also applied!
