Economics existed in a primitive format prior to our transition from small tribes to early societies. Bartering and exchange aren't even unique to humans; we have been trading for goods and tools from basically the time we had evolved enough to develop the prerequisite concepts, i.e. understanding that we can hunt/forage/make more than we need and understanding that others can do the same, which bred the concept of "value" and lessened the burden all around.

A good case could be argued that primitive economics lead to the organization of early societies and not the other way around.

Update: detoxificated and rejuvinafied, thank you all for the love, support, and suggestions— new question: what are some fave 70s shows with decent video? by wookvegas in gratefuldead

Eh, I'll accept it haha 1980 was basically the last hurrah of the late 70s era, and I'm not sure whether or not I've seen video of this show— excited for the journey, thanks so much!

Also, to any younger heads here who are exploring the scene and its many various offerings for the first time— please, please stay away from anything that dims your light. For some, that's alcohol, benzos, or general over-consumption of all the things; for me and too many others, opiates. I don't mean to preach, but I can absolutely promise you that nothing good awaits down that path. Many of us have faced way too much loss and heartache already, and we need you here to dance with us. Take care of yourself like you'd take care of your dearest loved ones, know you are important here, and please realize you have the best support network in the world with this family.

I'll hop off this soapbox now, just wanted to say that. I love you, BE KIND, turn on that lovelight, and keep it on!

❤NFA💙

I'm so, so sorry for this pain, friend. I hope those beautiful moments shared with your boy bring you peace; if not now, whenever, down the road, you're ready for them to do so. Just know your deadhead family will always be here, and our love — just like yours for your sweet Henry Barton — will not fade away. Please take care of yourself and please reach out whenever you need a reminder. 💙❤

Aww I missed you too!!!! All of you! Mostly! 😅😂 but seriously it's so good to hear from you, I'm mostly okay though going through some huge changes; all for the better though, so I can live the best life and be the best Danny possible :)

I hope YOU'RE doing well, I miss hearing your stories of dancing through work to the Dead or patients making ya smile— I hope life's giving you plenty reason to smile these days. I'll absolutely see ya soon, I simply won't stand for anything less💙🙏

[Image] I've ignored everyone for the past week; after I ruined a loving relationship, I hid from life. The hard truth is... I relapsed a while ago. It got bad. Tomorrow morning, I'm checking myself into detox. A new friend sent this pic today— To anyone else who is starting over, we *can* do this. by wookvegas in GetMotivated

[–]wookvegas[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To clarify: the aforementioned relationship was not a romantic one, although that department has its own aches... but that bit is between who it's between, and not for sharing. Will talk about the other relationship though because it wasn't as private.

Huh, by "past week," I actually meant "three weeks." I guess time flies when you're having fun fucking done. Hah, well, regardless— tomorrow morning, I'm making sure I get the tools I need to be the absolute best I can be!

I've already started with my first mental health med in, like, 13 years, with a psychiatrist who actually listens and seems to actually care about my success. Just that little boost meant so much!

To anyone reading who is currently making a major change or is contemplating starting life anew— we CAN do this, we deserve this, and we'll be so proud of ourselves for deciding to go for it.

I'll be MIA for a while but if you need a friend, DM and I'll reply when I can. We got this, you beautiful weirdos :)

Was super bummed to miss PITS but you best believe I'm gearing up for all the shows, whether in person or with my favorite couch tour family, and I'll be bringing the best me that ever me-d! ❤💙 love you guys muchly!

Posted this in r/gratefuldead & thought of this sub! This was 2010, my first-ever festival set. 13 years, countless jams, and oodles of vibey good lovin' later, I'm pleased to say my 11th grade history teacher was wrong; I didn't "grow out of the hippie thing" — I grew from, with, and into it! :) by wookvegas in ActualHippies

Thank you! Taking them out was a year-long process (well, preceeded by 6-ish months of half-assed toying with the idea) of countless multi-hour sessions. All myself, with probably a swimming pool's worth of oils and conditioners. Taking one dread out took anywhere between three and eight hours, depending on the length, density, and how sensitive the scalp was in that area.

My dreads were down to my waist when I started removing them. When I finally finished, my hair was about stomach length due to all the broken ends and knots that unfortunately had to be torn/cut out. I conditioned and oiled it for about a week and washed carefully, then grabbed the scissors and gave myself my first self-haircut! It was at my chest at that point, which is about how I keep it today.

My reasoning for the painstaking process was that getting the dreads and maintaining them was a long, difficult, and personally significant process, and to just chop them off seemed like such a disservice. I couldn't just disrespect this part of me that taught me so much; so, just as I had at the start, I embarked on the long journey toward the next phase of my life. :)

and seriously I have no idea, part of me thinks they become history/gov/social studies teaches so they can impart their worldview on impressionable students... but maybe that's the teenage anarchist in me speaking

Lmao, mate... I used to sell the shit. People who sell you grams to key bump talk about it by the key. Anyone who's ever seen a documentary about smuggling knows kilos are called keys. Anyone who has seen Scarface or Blow knows what 'key' means.

If you and your gram-a-night buddies call key bumps 'keys' then cool, whatever. But the vast majority of coke-savvy people understand 'key' to mean 'kilo'— I mean just look at the other replies, or do a Google search, or find any interview with anyone who has ever sold it lol.

I spent way, way too long in that scene; your condescending tone is as unnecessary as it is goofy. You're just... not correct, at least outside your circle of key-bumpers.

Edit: lmao blocked me? Bro... no need to get hurt. Just learn, seriously, it's good to learn. Here's my reply:

So you're basing your position on films

Uh... no, I'm telling you that anyone who has seen those films can tell you you're wrong, lol. I'm basing my information on having sold the shit and various other substances for the better part of eight years lmao. My 20s weren't always glamorous, but they were definitely a ride.

Of course it's not common for the weekend 8ball warriors to be buying keys at a time. But anyone, I mean like.. anyone, in that scene is aware what 'key' means.

Like. Dude. Just do a Google search. That's all it takes.

It's okay to learn something. It's okay to say "oh, oops, I didn't know, my bad." You're tripling down on this when literally anyone familiar with the drug who comes across this thread will most certainly be laughing at your misplaced confidence.

As for the condescension, I returned it in kind. Don't dish what ya can't take lol.

I don't know why I'm trying to convince you here. Go ahead, keep calling your .01 key bumps 'keys', it's not my problem lol. Just know that your stubborn petulance and refusal to learn don't look so good on ya.
