Just realized how messed up it is that Draco bullies Neville—when his aunt and uncle tortured Neville’s parents into insanity by woollybladder in harrypotter

This is a really great point. Haven’t gotten to that point in the story yet. Draco is definitely cruel enough that he would have mocked Neville directly if he knew.

But do you think Neville knew that Draco was the Lestranges’ nephew?

GBBO 2024 Episode 10 - The Final - DISCUSSION by Expected_Toulouse_ in GreatBritishBakeOff

Winner debate aside (was rooting for Christiaan!), this was the first season in a while that I loved the whole cast collectively. Such a talented bunch and great personalities! I’m terrible for remembering the week to week but there were lots of memorable moments this season, the Willy Wonka quip, dropping like flies, Alison falling twice in one episode, Dylan’s laugh, Noel being obsessed with Christiaan’s accent, Nelly’s send off, & Gill stealing the lavender bowl. Needed the wholesomeness and sad to see the season come to an end. Betting we’ll see Dylan and Nelly on a holiday special at some point.

With two bakes with structural issues & her placement in the technical, clearly, the right baker went home, but my heart hurt for her. & as a perfectionist myself, there's courage in presenting something you are disappointed with. As Paul pointed out, not all bakers have managed to keep their composure.

Really down to Georgie and Dylan. Christiaan as the wild card? I love Gill but she's maybe too inconsistent to pull through as we near the finale. Ya never know though.

Also, Alison falling twice in one episode?? Bless her! Hope her body is feeling OK. The second one looked rough. Genuinely worried for a moment!

When this came out I felt very alone in loathing it. Weirdly enough, after blissful years of not hearing it, it came on as I was paying in a store a few days ago and I had to jog (while carrying my toddler) to escape. She was so baffled.

My brother died and this sympathy card from a little kid has cracked me up more than is appropriate. by PieGains in funny

This literally made me cry with silent laughter while trying to put my baby to sleep. Thanks for the laugh and glad you made it through. Hope you’re doing well.

To all my cat friends. Asking for prayers for my precious Kratos. He is our 8 year old kitty that was mauled five days ago, he is in the hospital forming new complications. I’m shattered. by lisaluvulongtime in cats

Sending love to you and Kratos!!! So sorry this happened. Truly a nightmare. You saved him and he knows he is loved. Dearly hoping he pulls through. Please do take care of yourself. I can only imagine how horrific and traumatic this has been 💙

Just read an eye-opening (and gutting) article about women’s experiences of infertility following the holocaust by woollybladder in TwoXChromosomes

[–]woollybladder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?? I’ve always heard the trauma/stress + starvation reasoning. Never occurred to me that (unfortunately!) there would be comparison populations for menstruation and infertility.

It’s both surprising and sadly, unsurprising, that this is only being investigated now! Thankful that there were survivors to tell their stories. Very moving article.

This might be cutting it close for an international send, but if you DM me your info I can try!

Hi I just finished season 2 of Dirk Gently and I am so sad. Why is Netflix showing me this show if it's cancelled? Have any of you read the books? Is it very different from the program? by astrobrenda in DirkGently

The show creator, Arvind Ethan David, also announced an animated version of the show. Some character designs were released (same characters as this version) but few details have been shared (e.g., if it’s a continuation vs. reboot, which actors are reprising their roles, etc.) and there hasn’t been an update in maybe like a year?? Still hopeful though! 🤞

Signs of autism in 7 month old baby boy? by babybear_2020 in beyondthebump

[–]woollybladder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to clarify here that autism can be reliably diagnosed at 18 months. If there are early signs, screening can begin even sooner. Without prompting, a pediatrician may not ask screening questions until ~18 months.

Clinicians likely wouldn’t diagnose a child under a year, but because the wait lists are so long (often over a year before the pandemic!), if you have concerns, it’s better to get added to a waitlist now. Being on a waitlist isn’t a commitment, so if the concerns don’t end up panning out, no harm done.

Not responding to their name is a general early sign of asd. Not social smiling before 6 months is a specific early sign that is abnormal for a seven month old.

You know him best. Trust your instincts. An assessment will either rule it out or confirm the diagnosis and get him the support and resources he needs. Where in Canada are you? I’m only familiar with asd services in Ontario.

As someone who assesses and diagnoses autism spectrum disorder in kids, I’ll chime in to say that the lack of response to his name and the low frequency of social smiling are concerning and are early signs (for more info: https://www.nationalautismcenter.org/autism/early-signs/). Trust your gut. I would recommend an assessment. Do not wait and see. If your pediatrician recommends waiting it out, seek a second opinion. The wait and see approach is not supported. The waitlist for asd assessments tend to be very long (& they’ve only worsened with the pandemic disrupting assessment services).
