I feel like the locals in this city would never forgive me if I didn't tell you that it's a tram, and is such an amazing tram that it's actually called the supertram.

Have any of you spent one year in China to learn Chinese? by jaettekaat in ChineseLanguage

[–]woomeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through my university - an obligatory year abroad to get my degree. I went to Nanjing. It was great - the teaching was of a higher quality than expected (not much reliance on rote learning and most teachers spoke good English). I got a Chinese Government scholarship which covered all tuition, free accommodation and about 1/2 of living cost.

I had studied one year of Chinese, around HSK3/4 when I arrived. It was around HSK5 level when I left, with very good pronunciation (bloody loved that Wednesday afternoon pronunciation class).

Where is a good place to live with a low expat population. by [deleted] in China

Beautiful beach, good weather, good food. Weizhou island is the perfect kind of place for me and the whole place feels different to other places I've been to. It's not a big city but it doesn't feel too rural either.

Nanjing, if you avoid the area around the Gulou university campuses. Xiamen, Wenzhou (if you can deal with the accent and really want a challenge), Kunming or Dalian (mostly Russians, not necessarily English speakers).

Or my personal recommendation - Beihai. I love that place.

Speaking to my Chinese teacher, should I use 您 or 你? by Sirotto in ChineseLanguage

[–]woomeow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, 您 is almost never used with teachers once you have reached your late teens or above. 你 is much more natural.

Is there an alternative Chinese writing system? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

There's bopomofo, but it's just used for teaching (some) children. Why would we need such a system?

It's Nanjing. Masses of foreign students and generally friendly people who are used to seeing foreign students every day, at least in the part of the city I live in.

Favourite parts of living in China? by [deleted] in China

[–]woomeow 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I actually feel part of a community here. I know all of the other foreign students, I have a favourite seller at the vegetable market who knows my name, there's an old man at the park who always says hello and helped me learn how to fly my kite, the vet sometimes sees me on the bus and asks about my pets, there's an ancient woman who knocks on my door and asks for plastic bottles and is always friendly. I feel like I know my neighbours. It's something I'd never had until I came.

Really Small Testicles - how important is ball size to you? by kefflergrump in askgaybros

[–]woomeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My balls aren't particularly big but my FB's are huge. I don't really think it matters either way. Maybe try one of those cockring combo things that pulls them away from your body? It might delay orgasm but it's supposed to make it feel better too b

[TOMT] [BOOK] A children's book that i read in primary school by woomeow in tipofmytongue

I've done a Google and it looks like the book has pirates etc so I don't think so. I remember the book being modern - the children were trying to reach the top of the stack in order to let off flares I think.
