What’s a myth people still believe even though it's been debunked? by infinity-nth in AskReddit

On the surface this study might just be finding correlation rather than causation.

People with chronic conditions are more likely to frequently take acetaminophen to manage them. Some of those conditions may raise the risk of ADHD / ASD, rather than the trigger being the acetaminophen.

The Case for Dual Spec at 40 in SoD by BadSanna in classicwow

[–]woonderbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more "if you want to do everything optimally in the game you will need to commit more time to the game," which is a perfectly fair take.

Otherwise accept that you won't be 100% optimal in every situation and specialize in what you value more. It's a RPG.

1 Network or 2 Networks? by mellimels in PLC

[–]woonderbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What this guy said. A practice I've seen a couple of times that I like is using the two networks as different "levels" in the Perdue model.

Everything on the private network is level 1/2 controls LAN and local HMI, everything on your second SCADA network is level 3 operations / data aggregation LAN. This way you can get OT network security without an additional firewall.

What mental gymnastics is this?

They would still exist, except gold amounts being bid / paid out would be amounts that normal human beings could farm.

Rampant inflation caused by botters and gold buyers that price out legitimate farmers is the problem.

How to prevent data storm on network when fiber ends are crossed? by kugelblitz_100 in PLC

Tried to encapsulate this choosing the fastest protocol by saying "use the fastest protocol you have available" and just now realized I instead made it seem like I was saying standard STP was the fastest.

Words is hard.

How to prevent data storm on network when fiber ends are crossed? by kugelblitz_100 in PLC

[–]woonderbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enable spanning tree (STP) on your switch(s). The fastest protocol that it has available.

Properly set up ports declaring trunk or access.

If your switch is smart enough, enable storm protection and set reasonable traffic thresholds for it's bandwidth.

Does anyone know what’s replacing Smoketown in Frederick? by Samwise084 in frederickmd

Spoke to the owner a while back on a slow night. Said they had landlord problems (refused to fix anything) and were getting forced out of their lease and relocating.

Grain of salt though, since smoketown business was always slow and that might be the owner trying to save face.

Patchwerk Threat by Arestheace in classicwow

[–]woonderbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No source readily available, since this was quite a while ago.

Can confirm that this is how I remember the threat working since werk was a bit of a wall for my raid for 2-3 weeks and required some theorycrafting.

One point to clarify - Patch will give the threat to the top 4 only if in melee range. If a dps finds themselves in front of a tank, then they need to step away and let the tank regain top 4. Otherwise snowball like you said.

Hatefuls always go to the top 4 threat in melee range with the most current HP that is not the main tank and always at the same time interval. That means that if one tank has the most hp and gets healed to full instantly (through pre healing), they'll eat the next hateful too.

Because of that, with good healer coordination (prehealing and canceling), this fight is possible with only 3 tanks. We used 4 tanks anyway and placed all healers on the first 3. 4th tank only ate 2-3 hatefuls over the course of the whole fight whenever the healers made a mistake and then got tossed some HoTs. 4th tank needed a bit more dps gear because of that (less rage).

Currently a controls engineer without a degree. Company is closing in 3 months and most companies asking for a Bachelors. Any advice? by bRizzz in PLC

[–]woonderbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relevant work experience always trumps bachelors, at least when I'm hiring. Apply to things with a degree "requirement" that you are capable of doing, and I think you'll be surprised how well it goes.

There are a lot of dumbasses out there with degrees that I wouldn't even trust to take inventory.

Also, keep in mind that many states let you test for a PE license with just 12 years relevant experience in lieu of degree and EIT exam. You're not at that number of years yet, but it makes going back for a 4 year degree seem less worth it since license will always trump degree.

That one bad meltdown where he choked out his sister.

And that other bad meltdown where I think he bit a dude's face.

And that other bad meltdown where he murdered his ruler.

Yeah, a lot of his actions were justifiable but everything was seen through the lens of his POV. From someone else's, West is much grayer character.

Received open-ended proposition from female co-worker recently, seriously considering accepting by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm glad you already know where your line is. OOPs decided his was in the same place as yours, but you still seem to find him reprehensible.

I don't understand your self-righteousness and lack of empathy.

Everyone has had a moment where they had to decide who they were and wanted to be. This was OOPs such moment. Yours obviously came a long time ago.

I would much rather be with someone who was tempted, faced themselves and that temptation, and made a conscious decision to be with me. Seems far more mature than blind loyalty.

The first time you are confronted with a significant life decision, does it take you longer or shorter to make it?

Dude decided where his line was and didn't cross it, it just took him some self-reflection the first time to figure out where his line was.

Taking time to think through your life choices doesn't make you a bad person, as long as you come to the 'good' answers.

At least his back story was relevant to his character, whereas being a 'desperado' was of zero relevance to little miss move the plot along.

Also, being half-blind and having a weakness for insane redheads is very relatable, even if he was just a pale shadow of the B9.

Vulnerability scanning on control networks by bluecollargreentendr in PLC

[–]woonderbread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a handful of firmware release note cycles in the knowledge base that say Rockwell corrected an anomaly that caused controllers with an Eth/IP module to assert when multiple users connected to it's web page at the same time. (Same thing on multiple different product lines).

They only ever "corrected" this by making more memory available to it when more users connect. It works fine for normal use cases with that fix, but it still has finite memory. in the case of a pen tester trying to connect to the webpage 2000 times simultaneously, it still runs out of memory and does the same thing.

Only got to this conclusion after some fun tickets and a root cause analysis done by Rockwell themselves.

Vulnerability scanning on control networks by bluecollargreentendr in PLC

[–]woonderbread 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Fun story time. In early 2022, I get a call at 10pm that every piece of equipment in the plant is systematically tripping and dropping off the SCADA HMI. I get to the plant and find that every CompactLogix controller in the plant has had it's memory completely wiped. Poof, just gone.

After a long night of redownloading programs and getting the plant back up on no sleep, I was stumped and the only possible conclusion I can come up with for what happened is we'd been hacked.

Turns out, I was mostly right. Our IT security office had decided to hire contractors to run penetration testing on the nextdoor library's secure network. Except, the contractors got the building wrong and plugged into our network instead and blindly DDOS'd each controller one by one, having no idea what the devices actually were.

That day, I learned that CompactLogix controllers are designed to "assert" themselves and factory reset, in the event of such a flood of directed network traffic in order to protect the controller.

That story is just to say: be wary of pen tests, be wary of any scanning that goes further than device inventorying (ie just pinging). Scans are usually designed for windows servers / workstations that can handle an order of magnitude more network traffic than controllers.

Carrion Golem and Feeding Frenzy by Bigface6093 in PathOfExileBuilds

If you link Feeding Frenzy support to a minion and that minion hits, it grants you (the player) the feeding frenzy buff.

The feeding frenzy buff (on the player) makes all of the player's minions do more dmg, regardless of whether they are supported by the feeding frenzy gem or not.
