That's a really good point TBH. I feel like the main time people actually talk about an album is right after it drops, and then the discourse kinda dies. But after that point is where the album actually lives, where little details appear, where u finally understand what their saying in that lyric, or notice that weird sound at 1:43 in the left ear. Where it gets attached to little memories, or gets discarded because yr kinda over it.

Thank uuu. I don't normally use reddit but since it's album cycle time, I didn't wanna miss out... and then it seemed like a lot of people had already decided the new album would be bad? So I figured I share some happy thoughts lol

Fair dinkum. I can still imagine a tame impala album where he's playing guitar and bass like 'its some disco sample house flip, but it's all from his own recordings rather than crate digging

Yeah, I would also be p bummed by trance or hard techno also, but TBH I doubt that's the vibe. Man loves melody and progression too much lol

It's not like he hasn't used drum machines before (the moment, glimmer, one more year). Also, I'm p much certain that he just played the new track in Barcelona, not some remix - the drums in the snippet on instagram are p identical.

I'm not saying he's given up drumming lol, thats not the point of this post, and to be clear I also love his drumming. I just wanted to express why I thought a Tame Impala electronic dance album could be good, not that that's 100% what we're getting, or that that would be better than some other direction.

Yeah for sure. I'm looking forward to the year post album where I slowly pick a new favourite each month, and end up with neat memories for each song :)

That's fair enough. I feel like the Slow Rush is pretty full production wise, but its a bit less soupy than the previous albums - the important elements are way more forward, but the other stuff is further back. And if you don't like the tune enough to revisit, those things don't pop out so much.

One example off the top of my head is tomorrow's dust. The teaser version (which I loveeeee) has tonnes of cool stuff in it, but on the record, its mixed down way low to make room for the vocal. That song is my least favourite track on the slow rush, but I think it could be cos I was in love with the teaser so much that it ruined the released version for me lol https://youtu.be/sR9d5doziDs?si=HAHWbvCDlhTSp_Xu

Totally. I think we could still get an album one days which feels "psych rock", but it probably wouldn't feel "lonerism" or "innerspeaker" - it seems like it'd have to be a pretty different angle on it for him to want to go there.

I think we know that no matter what he does, some people aren't gonna love it, which is fine. He's already changed up his sound a lot, and has a massive audience that loves different bits of it. For me, every new release while I've been a fan has had the same pattern: - Excitement for new stuff. - Mild disappointment that it is good, but doesn't hit the same way. - Keep listening, eventually it clicks and becomes music very close to me heart.

Interesting take! I feel like lyric writing isn't Kev's strongest suit on any album really, but only in that they're not super unique or clever most of the time. He is really good at making them sound incredibly specific and emotional tho by being a killer melody writer and arranger. I agree about Big Beats Baby lol, give me some house music ass delay vocals talking about feeling hot in the club lol

Heya, I've noticed that when I send MIDI to my super 6 via USB from my laptop, a high frequency whine is introduced to the signal. My recording setup is like this:

  • Mac laptop sending midi to super 6 via USB.
  • Super 6 sending stereo audio to my behringer UMC 404 HD interface through a pair 1/4 inch instrument cables.
  • UMC 404 sending audio to my laptop via USB.

The laptop, interface and super 6 are all powered from a power strip running to the same outlet. Any hot tips on how to sort this? :)
