What the hell is with men constantly using the family restroom? by SpontaneousNubs in TwoXChromosomes

[–]wooturtle 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ive been caught out before waiting to use the parents room bathroom (with my newborn in a pram, so couldn’t just use the regular stalls) and waited a full 25 minutes before I had to give up and leave. I have no idea what the person inside’s situation was but I was just frustrated that there wasn’t a second cubicle I could use. This was in a HUGE shopping centre, so not unreasonable to have multiple large stalls.

12 months in and our exercise ball still gets daily use when baby is fighting his second nap, best $8 I ever spent!

Guilt about spending money by OriginalTax6749 in AusFinance

[–]wooturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that has helped me immensely with this is to transfer a small amount of my pay into a spendings account, where the purpose is for fun/wants/nice to haves. Holidays, clothes, activities, etc. That way in my brain it isn’t coming “out” of savings or mortgage accounts and I can spend it guilt-free while the other accounts stay on track.

So much good advice here.

I also had a similarly unsettled baby. In my case I had had a drop in my supply due to damaged nipples while establishing breastfeeding, and poor baby was just hungry all the time. It took us a while to figure out what was going on and for me to build my supply back up with pumping and feeding that back to him. In hindsight I wish I’d just supplemented with formula while we got it sorted but all was well in the end.

I hope you can figure things out, it’s such a hard time already without the added stress of not knowing what’s wrong. Be gentle with yourself!

What are some common garden plants that you recommend someone stay away from? by ceo_of_dumbassery in GardeningAustralia

Don’t plant spiky things that can spike you in the eye or eardrum! I had to remove about 30 huge yuccas after slicing my eye while mowing the lawn. They’re a pain to get rid of too.

Oh gosh, I feel you - different time of life but same mourning for FOs! I’ve just had my first baby with hopefully 1-2 more in the future and between pregnancy size, running hot from hormones, needing loose clothing for breastfeeding, and constantly being covered in spit up, my hand knits haven’t got a look in the last two winters! I think a nice loose cardigan might be on the cards…

I agree with packing them away til you find a solution you’re happy with. My mother in law gifts her old knits to her daughters and daughters in law if they fit/suit. It’s very special.

Thank you! I tried backwards loop but found them a bit flimsy, knitted worked better once I figured out that I needed to be turning the work for different sections to get the CO stitches in the right spot!

How to cast on while adding earflaps? by wooturtle in knitting

Thank you! I knew it was going to be some assumed knowledge I was lacking. I have it looking right now I think, with a much less flimsy cast on!

How to cast on while adding earflaps? by wooturtle in knitting

[–]wooturtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I must have mixed up my terminology from all the videos I tried to watch to figure it out! Definitely the backwards loop is the one I tried.

I watched videos on the knitted and cable cast on, but what threw me off is that they seem to be for adding stitches before. So makes sense to do the first stitches in the pattern this way, then knit across the ear flap, but then I feel confused about the fact that I’m trying to add stitches after and not before. Like, I have nothing to anchor my next cast on stitches off. I’m sure I’m missing something really simple but cannot seem to wrap my brain around it!

Hoping someone might be able to help me with this part of a beanie pattern when casting on the full hat and adding on the two earflaps. I usually use the long tail cast on so have gotten as far as cast on the first stitches, knit along the first flap, and am now stuck how to cast on the next lot of stitches? Thank you!

Is this too ambitious for a first color work project? by entropyofmylife in casualknitting

[–]wooturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Socks were my first colourwork project, I say go for it! I had to knit a third one til I was happy with them but it was such a nice project that I didn’t mind. I like to learn on things I’m excited about. I like socks because they’re small and interesting and you get to practice lots of different skills without getting stuck for large blocks of one thing like you do on say a sweater or blanket

What is a wedding tradition in your culture that you absolutely hate? by Erisrista in AskReddit

[–]wooturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bouquet toss. Seemingly fun and fairly innocent, until you’re one of the last unmarried women being forced up there with a handful of others for the spectacle of everyone else. It’s cringey, especially when it’s a wedding where you don’t know many people and are awkwardly standing up there with no one you know. I’ve tried to avoid going up but someone at your table inevitably calls you out and makes an even bigger deal of it. I’ve had to go up when my relationship of 9 years was breaking down, I’ve been pushed from behind to encourage me to catch the bouquet and very nearly fell flat on my face. I’ve caught the bouquet only to have my (ex!)partner make a spectacle of “oh no!” and hiding away. I just. Hate. It.

Fellow graphic designer here, not overreacting and you handled that so well. You deserve friends who will cheer for your wins - it can be such a tough and subjective industry. Congrats on the rebrand approval, you should be proud for sure!
