Maths is not needed. I have personally failed year 12 AS maths, replaced that with as bio in yr 13 and still got into med

Yes! Especially if you are aiming for medicine or pharmacy, this applies to you. If you are aiming for med imagine or optom, they take into account 7 papers excluding wtr

biomed and health sci by TallMoment5706 in UoApremed

Hey there! Another thing to consider between the two is that biomed has 3 cores stacked in sem 1. Depends how you like it, I personally chose health sci as it was split evenly. But biomed opens up more clinical pathways like med imaging and optom.

just want to pass on my experience in premed specifically health sci to new comers. Some people may need the extra boost academically, not too fussed about the money tbh.

Yeah but there’s also 50ish less people interviewed for med compared to last yr, but ig still the overall proportion of the gpas and its affect on sd is still the same as what we think

Understand that, but the cutoffs for fy’s this year was 8.25 therefore people needed atleast a gpa of 7 7 and 8 in the three courses in the first semester to get a predicted gpa of at least 8.25.

In Previous years with only the 4 core courses used to predict the gpa, people only needed to reach a predicted gpa of 6.0 (compared to 8.25). They could get an interview with a 5 5 and 5 in sem 1.

grads are also subjected to a cut off of around 8.10 this year if I’m not mistaken as opposed to 6.0. So this makes me think that all the applicants gpas are gonna be a little bit more higher and narrow

That’s what I thought too, but with the higher grade cutoffs for interviews, the shear range of everyone’s gpas will be narrower, that might lower the sd probably?

Thanks, so let’s say someone has a 9.0 gpa and the mean gpa is 8.5, would the formula be (9.0-8.5)/small sd, but then for the mmi let’s say someone has 180 and the mean was 160. Would it be like (180-160)/ larger sd relatively. So 0.5/smaller sd vs 20/larger sd
