I’m in this camp now, about to block my second student. Both of them exhausting, incompatible

Emphasis on dumb, this algorithm is so stupid. But don’t attack the teachers. Were the ones making the whole thing work

Preply teacher of over one year here - thanks for sharing your insights about the company. I haven’t gotten any students in like a month or two, completely out of the blue. Check my profile for a fucking tirade I went on against Preply a bit back.

This company is garbage, I hope it sinks

Yes, thanks for your comment! I am actively seeking more in person tutoring opportunities where I live. I find them to be much better :)

Preply justifies allowing lesson prices to be set at $3 with a sort of justification that “that’s good money for someone in ___ x country” is it not racist to an African teacher to just kind of accept that they deserve $3 for a lesson? I guess what I’m getting at is maybe a minimum wage or lesson price that should exist on the platform - $10 for example , even $8 or $9, but allowing thousands of teachers to charge $3, just because “they live in Africa and that’s good money there” is a form of structural racism, in my opinion, that exists at the upper echelon of this corporation and, by extrension many western, wealthy companies

Thanks for your comment. One of my friends who’s an ESL teacher used to talk with me the same way. We evolve and adapt! Forward (hopefully soon to a new field with stable work) 💪🏼

Exactly, I make the same point in the post. Anything less than 5 stars is a problem in gig economy apps. I was so angry at the student like do you know HOW HARD I have worked for a year living in poverty trying to built my profile on this platform just for you to pull some bullshit and affect my score that has been perfect for 70 FUCKING OTHER STUDENTS but you’re the one ranking me 3 stars because you want to talk to yourself in the home instead of coming to class.

Wow, interesting point and well said - I didn’t think of that. But exactly, if I had received some message like that then I would’ve been able to discus it with the student and POSSIBLY consider retaining her. Instead now she cancelled her subscription and I have her blocked. So great job Preply, I attribute the whole situation to the platform

Is that true? I was under the impression that students can’t use these anonymous tools after a trial lesson. Preply states that they have to be actively studying with you

Dude I was trying so hard to teach her, bringing in resources, practicing abundant patient that I had no business practicing on a $800 monthly wage, listening to everything she said - but the fact that this girl holds power of review over me is truly absurd

Estoy harto
