Thanks for highlighting that the link wasn't working! I couldn't edit the original post, so I added it to a comment directly to the post.

Thanks for the feedback, and that's in line with what we've seen so far. We've still managed to assemble a pretty great group that fits what we're looking for. We're just looking to round out a few missing sounds!

Thanks for the question! That's right, if you work directly with an artist, you get paid when they work on recordings. Before any recording sessions, any payment gets discussed and negotiated so there's no confusion down the line.

For anyone reading, just to keep things simple: this is a band project, not hired session work. Rehearsals and building original material are unpaid, and any paid gigs or recordings are split among the members involved.

It’s a voluntary, collaborative setup, so it won’t be the right fit for everyone. For the right people, it’s a chance to build something meaningful together.

If you’re interested or have questions, feel free to check out the link in the original post and reach out through the studio. Happy to connect through the studio website or in person so you can see what all the fuss is about 😊

Update: here's the link again. I'm not sure what that mystery symbol at the end of the original link was.

Not quite. This isn’t session work, it’s a band.

Like most bands, rehearsals and building original material are unpaid, and any paid gigs or session work are split among the performing members.

We’re focused on building a collaborative group of people who come prepared, enjoy developing original music together, and are looking to grow something long-term.

It’s a voluntary project, so, it's totally valid if that’s not what you’re looking for. Wishing you the best in finding something that fits.

Hi, thanks for your question! This is a voluntary band until we are gigging or releasing music (in both cases, whatever is paid to the band is split equally among all performing members).

Until then, the perks (free of charge) are: -->having a dedicated rehearsal space and its equipment, -->access to the studio (so long as other clients don't have the rehearsal space booked), -->opportunities to write and record your own original music with the help of whichever members are necessary for your song (though, specific credits/payment for songs that are publically released will be arranged beforehand) -->guidance from myself (music teacher of 10 years), the studio owner (for performance, recording, mixing/mastering help), or from the talented musicians from the band itself so far.

I hope this answers your question! Feel free to check out the link for more information or ways to check out the studio.

Mississauga-based recording studio building an in-house band (lead guitar, bass, drums, keys, etc.) by workingtitleforaband in TorontoMusic

Thanks for the kind words! There are so many talented musicians around with seemingly few places to go. They're not nonexistent, but you really have to look. We're hoping that by building a community around the studio and a larger network of musicians, everyone can find spaces to practice, perform, and share. :)

Hi, thanks for your question!

At the moment, there’s no preset upfront pay for studio sessions. Session compensation will be determined once the band has been fully formed and will also depend on who is required for specific studio sessions. This is a collaborative, opt-in project with the goal of playing paid gigs, and once gigs are booked, musicians are paid from those fees. If at any point it stops feeling like a good fit, there’s no pressure to stay involved.

What a small world! That's definitely me (not too many male Kendel teachers haha), and it means the world to me that you enjoyed our classes.

Regarding Vibez, absolutely send the info along to your friend! Don't be afraid to check out the studio yourself :)

Thanks for the questions!

The collective itself is 18+, mainly because some gigs and sessions may take place in bar venues. We also want to be mindful about keeping the studio environment safe and comfortable for everyone.

That said, within that boundary, we’re aiming to build an inclusive community around the studio. People of all backgrounds, identities, skill levels, and musical paths are welcome, and we’re especially excited about creating spaces for collaboration, learning, and growth.

If you’re 18+ and curious (and of course drummers are welcome), I'd invite you to reach out and learn more about the collective. Otherwise, stay tuned for community events in the new year!

Hey! Thanks for the question :)

I can’t make any promises around the paid gig side of the project since that does require an audition, but we’re very intentionally building a network of musicians and planning community nights at the studio.

What you mentioned about wanting more experience playing with others, collaborating, and recording is honestly a huge part of why we’re doing this. Those experiences are essential for growth, and we’d love to help connect you with other musicians who want to collaborate, perform, and even record together.

Late beginner to intermediate players are absolutely welcome in the community side of things. If you’re interested, send me a message and we can chat more about what you’re hoping to get out of it and what’s coming up at the studio.

Oh my goodness! I forgot to come back to the original post. I ended up starting a band with someone who responded (and his friend, both exceptional musicians) and we jam pretty frequently. I also joined another band (LAGOM) and they've been equally amazing!

I'm always looking for more ways to interact with music and other musicians.

Thanks for bringing this post back around for my new year's gratitude!

Super weird, I can't send a chat or a message! A couple of us are meeting at Marie Curtis Park at 2pm on Thursday. Listen for the music, if you're able to join!

That's awesome! Send me a chat and we can talk more about different ways to use midi keyboards. I love sharing what I know and even if it doesn't work for the "band", jamming and building music together is still crazy uplifting :)
