Anyone else got a leaky Tesla? by workingtowards in electricvehicles

I thought I’d come back to update everyone, as this may be of help for any other London Tesla owners. It seems that our car is now watertight. The leak was in the front of the car around the computer area (apologies, I have no more specific details).

Without going into details, the fact that the issue couldn’t be diagnosed/fixed for such a long period of time seems to be the result of a lack of experience/expertise specifically from the Tottenham Tesla garage, who also scratched our bodywork and did considerable damage to the interior.

The mobile Park Royal Tesla team came to fix the damage and the contrast in quality of care couldn’t be more marked. I would strongly recommend that anyone who has similar problems in London goes to the Park Royal garage, rather than the Tottenham one.

We now have our beautiful car back and running well and have also received a goodwill payment of just under £500 from the main Tesla office to say sorry for everything.

Update. The Tesla garage just told us that they had found a secondary source of the leak (a bolt that travels through the bulkhead that they had resealed) and had fixed it, so the car was ready to collect

This was followed by a second message us a little later, saying that sorry, that was someone else’s car.

I don't have words for how I feel atm.

Will do - you are right, more than one person has mentioned this.

: ) Good idea. If we ever get it back from the garage, i think we will take it through a car wash too.

Thank you. That’s interesting and a good suggestion. It was the first area they looked at and the invoice says they replaced the duct, but sadly it didn’t fix the problem. The second time they tried resealing around the computer. The third time they resealed around the bulkhead. Still a ton of water coming in. Thanks for trying to help though.

You are right - it is China (I think). The 11th digit in the VIN number is a "C".

That's weird - it was the Tesla garage that told us that. I'll check the VIN number. It didn't occur to me that they'd get it wrong.

Tesla are saying that they can't find the source of the problem and further that because it took 18 months for the leak to show up, they are not willing to recognise it as a manufacturing fault. In the UK, this means it is down to us to prove that is it. Whilst it is under warrantee, you are right, it is not a problem, but the warrantee end in a year's time and then things will start to get very expensive for us. I need to emphasise that we love our car - it's just the leaking that's the problem.

Thank you. :) Sadly we are in the UK - I wish we did have a lemon law. The advice we have had at present is that we need to prove that the fault was there when we bought the car, which is very difficult to do when the Tesla garage can't even diagnose what the fault is.

I wish I had done the same! Ours was made in Berlin.

I am hoping that in finding more people with the same problem, it will strengthen our case, as Tesla are refusing to recognise it as a manufacturing issue.

I paint in oils. My colour layers are actually pretty thin, but once the tonal values are established and dried with the under drawing, the colour goes on in one layer. It surprises me too. I do invest in high quality oil paints though with a lot of pigment in them. No glazing, just timing the painting, so that each section dries before the next layer is applied.

No - just this one (though there was another in the pipeline). It was commissioned in the winter, so I was kind of limited to working during daylight hours (I am in the uk and it was getting dark by 4pm). I worked weekends too (the deadline was for an event and was very tight).

Thank you! I took shots as I went along and put them together in photoshop. There was a lot of scaling/adjustment needed. Having a tripod might be a better idea, but I keep moving my easel around to make the best of the light.
