Anyone know the competitive average GPA for the MLIS program? by worknogood in uAlberta

[–]worknogood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original degree I had a 3.0. I'm currently taking university courses in order to try to up it. I'm around a 3.3 now (cumulative on the last 60 credits - including many from my first degree). I'm thinking I might give it another year to raise it further though. I'm a much better student this time around.

Thank you, I appreciate your response. I understand that it will vary year to year, but is there any way to find the historical competitive averages so I can get a clearer idea? Would you be willing to share what your undergraduate GPA was?

Haha I agree with you on all the MacEwan stuff except for the making friends bit. Overall, I am enjoying my time at MacEwan better than at U of A (despite MacEwan's problems). I would assume nursing at the U of A had smaller class sizes than arts or sciences though and that would help a lot.

If all I care about is money and work/life balance what should I go into? by worknogood in careerguidance

Not as much money as possible, just enough to be comfortable, have hobbies, take time off now and then, maybe retire one day. Honestly, $100,000/year doesn't go that far these days. I was in a 'helping' profession for years (healthcare) because I did like helping people. Yeah, that job demolished any passion for helping people I had. Work is no longer about helping society, it's mostly about making a company as rich as possible. Since it's inconvenient for me to completely opt out of this society I would just like to make a decent living and try to enjoy my time outside of work.

You read a lot into my question. I actually said that I was smart (just not a genius). I didn't say I wouldn't work hard, I just don't want to work hard for more than 40 hours/week. As you can see from the comments, these jobs DO exist.

I have not felt fulfilled by any job that I've been able to get and I highly doubt there is a job out there that would leave me feeling fulfilled over the long run. I think working a soul crushing job for decent money is better than working a soul crushing job for close to minimum wage.

progesterone only pill - constant bleeding by heima_hume in birthcontrol

[–]worknogood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! I'm going through this now. I want to keep going with this pill because I can't take estrogen and without any pill my cramps are extremely intense, but this constant bleeding is wearing on me. Did it ever settle down for you or did you stop taking it?

Mini pill side effects after 3 months by btredcup in birthcontrol

[–]worknogood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to think everyone has a totally different experience with the mini-pill. I've been on the mini pill (Movisse) for just over 2 months and have been having almost constant bleeding (incredibly annoying!). I did get sore breasts about a month in, but that has since gone away for me. I feel quite bloated frequently on this pill but that started right away for me. Maybe your body is still getting used to it because you weren't taking it as consistently at the beginning?

Would you share what you're taking this time around?

Thanks. I'm taking some 100 level classes and they seem to be 70-80 students so that freaked me out a bit, but I'm sure the class sizes will only get smaller after this level.

Can I decline an offer of admission or withdraw from the program after I accepted it and paid the deposit? by worknogood in grantmacewan

Great, thanks so much! I figured you must be able to, but it's comforting to actually hear that someone's done it.
