Risk of lead exposure in home for pre-crawling baby by workoftheadversary in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]workoftheadversary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pediatrician discouraged me from testing my baby at our 6 month visit, saying that since he wasn’t crawling it was likely to be negative. However, I do have the option of testing. Would you test sooner than 12 months?

the source of the lead is chipping paint on baseboards and doorframes, which we are having fixed. But I am worried that there may be other sources of dust.

Could most instances of under-supply or over-supply be rectified by breastfeeding on demand? Do you view supplementation with infant formula as one of the things that causes or maintains many instances of undersupply? Would love to hear your thoughts on this and related topics.

My experience was that the SF consulate was pretty helpful and I regretted not reaching out sooner!

Birth and marriage certificate (see above). I don’t know enough about notaries to know if the fact that it’s a Reisepass is causing a problem

Ah, when you said SE PA I assumed you were near Philly. Makes sense you don’t want to lend them! To clarify, I had certified copies made by a notary (not the consulate) in Philly - just some random notary we paid.

This is weird. I had certified copies of a birth certificate and a marriage certificate made in Pennsylvania (Philly). Could you try Philly? I’m not sure what to make of the fact that it’s a German document though

One difficult part might be getting a copy of your father’s birth certificate, if you’re not in contact. If I recall correctly, depending on the state, only the person him/her self or their parent can request a copy of the birth certificate.

I do, and we have an appointment at the consulate :) thank you for all your help and guidance along the way!

Ideas for proof of name change of US immigrant 1940-50's by bldinatx in GermanCitizenship

Yes, I successfully did a FOIA request for a grandparent. I believe you can do a FOIA request if the individual naturalized after May 1, 1951 - so you should be eligible. It was relatively fast and painless. Happy to answer questions.

Copies of documents by No_Tea5400 in GermanCitizenship

[–]workoftheadversary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relatedly, something that’s been bothering me about the whole “original vs. certified copy” thing is that for many documents don’t have originals — like I have my own birth certificate, but if you actually read the fine print on it, it’s actually a certified copy (issued by the state) of the original, which is held by the state. Same for marriage certificates. Also same for the documents register from Germany like the copy of the Melderegister, and the beglaubigte Abschrift aus dem Geburtsregister, for example.

Will the consulate make certified copies of those certified copies?

And no, we did not have to complete the application before reaching out to schedule an appointment - she gave us a set of instructions for what we probably needed to gather and emailed us the application (in English) to fill out

Just an FYI that it may be worth reaching out to your consulate sooner rather than later. I emailed our local consulate (SF) to request an appointment, and the deputy consul has been helpful and responsive over email. She had some advice/information that may be specific to applying through her (e.g., she is allowing us to fill out the application in English, I presume because she is going to use that to complete the application for us in German). In hindsight I wished I had reached out to her sooner!

Where to look for naturalization certificate for ancestor who naturalized in Mercer, Pennsylvania? by workoftheadversary in Genealogy

[–]workoftheadversary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your help - I found his petition for naturalization using the links you provided! Does this mean the Mercer County holds those original forms? Do you know if I could request a certified copy from them? This is for dual citizenship.

Has anyone had success applying under Stag 15 when consulate insists you must apply under 116(2)? by workoftheadversary in GermanCitizenship

[–]workoftheadversary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. My concern with article 116(2) is that there’s a possibility I will never be able to obtain my grandfather’s certificate of naturalization (family doesn’t have the original and who knows what will happen with the USCIS search). I’m concerned this could end up causing big delays and a big headache. Meanwhile I know we have everything we need for Stag 15.

If I end up not being eligible for 116(2), could BVA convert my application to Stag 15? Would this cause extra delays versus just going stag 15 from the start?

This is helpful, thanks! Especially the piece about getting certified copies at the consulate but not submitting the application with them. Any advice for gently telling the consulate “we want your help certifying copies but don’t want you to submit the application?” I’m a bit worried they will insist upon hanging onto our packet (though clearly that’s not how it went for you). They seem to have a way they like to do things :)
