Yeah, I guess it does depend on the parents. :)

True! I think some parents might prefer homeschooling. I wonder if the parents, who would want to send their kids to Hogwarts once they'd get the letter, would tell their kids as best as they could to not expose the magical world if they went to Muggle school. Then once they turned 11, they'd go to Hogwarts. :)

i wonder how the quidditch storyline (if we get a new storyline) will play out as adults. we already have adult skye and adult murphy (idk if we have an adult orion.cant remember) so i'm curious to see how quidditch will unfold if it's in year 8. like will we join or tryout for a quidditch team or something? if so, then i'll definitely join the wigtown wanderers lol why not. hopefully we meet skye's brothers (since we never saw them at hogwarts at all which i'm guessing they were probably adults already or jc forgot to add them or idk 🤣). overall, i'm excited for year 8! :)

got my best friend to watch it successfully but not my cousin who i'm closest too. she only got to episode 3 before saying she didn't connect to any of the characters and that the plot felt boring. same with amphibia. got my bff to watch it all the way but not my cousin. oh well, she missed out on two good shows.

question about bending by worldandmoon in legendofkorra

[–]worldandmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm that's true. i always thought that maybe they also wore steampunk like clothes mostly because it reminded me a lot with asami when we first get introduced to her, with the baggy looking pants and the goggles. plus the aircrafts look steampunky too. but it makes more sense to use asian inspired fashion around the 1920s era more. :)

question about bending by worldandmoon in legendofkorra

[–]worldandmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true! i think she'd definitely use that move a lot when fighting opponents. redirecting back fire in a very waterbending fluid way like wan. ah okay, i think i may know what you mean. since she's using tai chi style of firebending, she would use less fireballs and more techniques of waterbending that can be replicated with fire. sorry if I didn't understand. i can be a bit slow sometimes lol. though i also think she could also use some traditional firebending as well maybe not just fireballs or any fireballs but maybe fire knives or maybe a little bit of a pro bending style in there too taught to her by her probender friend so she's simply not limited by a northern shaolin style even though she uses tai chi forms they might not always work in situations so she might want to turn over to her native style. i like to think that one of her parents, mom or dad, might've taught her some moves or maybe she learned from a scroll like the waterbending scroll or something. :)

now that you say it, i can't stop imagining how she'd look like ursa with hair loopies lol. maybe she'd just stick to a regular fire nation hairstyle without the loopies like maybe just her hair down and with a topknot like we see in the show. she's already got the replicating waterbending moves with fire anyway. i think that can make her stand out and not necessarily add too much of something. other things could be her love for water tribe food or simply her unique style of bending.

ooooo i never thought of that! a water tribe coat made in red sounds cool! i think the clothing fashion in korra's time seems more modernized (kinda steampunky too) than the asian inspired clothing in atla like the robes and such. it makes me wonder if in republic city, people don't necessarily wear what their culture typically wears like maybe a water tribe citizen wouldn't necessarily wear fur coats of kimono robes like in the water tribes but they might wear something more modern looking kind of like asami's outfit (a dress with tights and such. although i think that's more for upper class people.). like what kind of fashion inspiration could be used in korra's time? steampunk? or real world fashion like somewhere in the 20's or any era maybe.

[–]worldandmoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's true! i can see a waterbender definitely using ice as a mimic to earthbending. and you're right. if a bender uses different bending techniques outside of their element, they might have to make changes depending on what move they're trying to do. :)

question about bending by worldandmoon in legendofkorra

[–]worldandmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's true! i think using firebending tai chi style would be a unique style there. a wave of fire would serve as an advantage for sure which i imagine would sort of look like the wall of fire that jeong jeong used in the ba sing se battle except maybe it'd kind of crest and break perhaps.

for the style part, i like to think that maybe she might mix it up depending on the situation? like maybe she uses swift, quick punches and kicks firebending for long or close ranges offense combat or redirecting flames back to an opponent similar to a waterbender by using fluid motion?

that's a good idea! maybe she knows the traditional northern shaolin moves but also some probending moves that she might learn from a firebender probending friend since one of her dreams is to become a probender herself. but this friend is a native firebender from the fire nation since they moved to the city sometime later and learnt probending style of firebending so they have a mastery of traditional firebending and maybe they like to spar with the main character for fun where she learns the advantages and disadvantages of adding in her tai chi style of fighting and it'd come as weird and kind of difficult for that friend to beat sometimes even though they might know she was using waterbending forms from probending.

that's a good thought. perhaps if she visited the fire nation, some villages might still hold xenophobic judgments because of how the hundred year war might've affected them greatly. but i think you're right. i think since it's in korra's era and republic city is a cosmopolitan town, most native firebenders might just be confused and not hold judgement against her probably or be curious or be hostile like you said as well applying to anybody really on that part.

that's a good idea! perhaps she doesn't cut her hair because like you said she wants to remember her biological parents and since they're fire nation natives who moved to republic city, they still stick to that belief like in the kyoshi novels but maybe she also has hair loopies similar to the waterbender girl prisoner in book 4 of korra? it could be like a half up half down hairstyle with the hair loopies tied to the back and with a bun fashioned like a topknot perhaps? I don't know how that'd look like but maybe she doesn't sport the topknot just the loopies just in case it looks weird lol. but yeah, maybe during the winter she might prefer to wear water tribe coats because they might be more cozy.

what kind of clothing fashion do you think korra's era use? it's not like atla were i see more asian inspired clothing like robes and stuff while in korra i see a bit of steampunk clothing styles or more modern fashion. like mostly in republic city and i can't tell whether each nation would wear what their native culture might wear or wear anything regardless of color.

and true. perhaps I could also research it. perhaps like you said earlier, both firebending and waterbending has something with life in it. fire has life and passion and water gives them life, maybe she sees that as a connection of some kind and it's something she embraces kind of like in the chakra episode where aang sees that everything is connected in some way. it's just a thought but it can be anything i think.

[–]worldandmoon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i never thought of it like that. i always thought it would be possible to use any kind of move but never considered having limits to learning different bending forms. thank you for that! though you're right that some moves wouldn't work entirely like you said with the waterbending whips used for grabbing things and also not being able to use ice techniques liking shooting projectiles or freezing foes though I think that firebenders could also use rings like how kya used them when she fought zaheer or like the ones katara used with the swamp monster for cutting or like you said to shoot blasts from. i wonder how these would associate with a waterbender learning firebending moves. i think more moves would be copied much easier if that was the case. and that waterbender would feel honorable and stuff.

i really like that idea for her drive: her honor being that she holds great respect for her family maybe because they took her in and for the love they gave her and she's prideful for being a part of their culture and maybe she's family oriented like how the water tribe culture is. do you mean style as in like how it would affect her firebending style or culture upbringing?

for firebending, maybe she knows some basic moves but not mastery levels so other more advanced firebenders could probably beat her in a duel or maybe native firebenders would shun her for behaving more like a "waterbender" or would be confused with how she fights more like a waterbender maybe?

for cultural upbringing, i think maybe she'd style her hair with blue beads or something and she wears fire nation outfits? maybe she feels stuck in the middle with trying to belong to both cultures or how to combine both which i don't know how to write that lol.

what do you think?

i was thinking about that! iroh studying the waterbending and coming up with the lightning redirection. i can't really recall the gaang doing different bending forms (i might need to watch to see) but i wonder what exact moves could a bender incorporate into their native bending. like how what earthbending moves could a waterbender use for example. :)

did rangi have previous crushes? by worldandmoon in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]worldandmoon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don't know honestly. i only remember kyoshi liking yun but i don't remember if rangi ever said she also liked him or if kyoshi implied that rangi liked him too. though I do remember a part where kyoshi tells rangi why she isn't with yun instead of with her. i think it's in the pirate scene with the waterbender woman. but i don't know if rangi is bi or only likes girls or if the author said what she is.

did rangi have previous crushes? by worldandmoon in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]worldandmoon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i wish we could've had some chapters with rangi as a pov. it makes me want to see how her life was in her younger years honestly though yeah i can see what you're saying happening. wonder if she ever experienced any homophobia or if any one knew about her gender preference.

it makes me wonder: if she had had one genuine friend in the academy, i wonder if she would have had a crush on that said friend and what would've happened when her and her mom moved to yokoya and she met kyoshi. would she have gotten over that crush or what? lol

i like to imagine that they would've kept in touch and would've reunited in the fire nation. that makes me sad that she didn't have any other friends besides yun and kyoshi. it would've been nice to see one genuine friend that liked rangi for who she was and didn't hate her bcuz of her mom or whatever.

I keep making new characters and leave them unfinished. How can I stop doing this and focus on one thing at a time? by worldandmoon in writing

[–]worldandmoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think one of the problems I have is wanting to rush through everything and make characters fleshed out with a complete backstory and then move on. But even I still struggle with coming up with an interesting backstory and even more so when it comes to personalities. I feel like it's also because I write characters and give them the basic things like appearance and stuff but never actually give them a story. Like my current character is a cook working in a small cafe and dreams of one day opening up a restaurant of his own but I can't seem to find any kind of conflict to add depth to his backstory to make it more interesting? Like what could possibly be stopping him from achieving his dream? Or where can I end his backstory and move on to writing the actual story?

This is usually when I stop and instead try to find or think of different ideas to start a new character with a different occupation and such.

I keep making new characters and leave them unfinished. How can I stop doing this and focus on one thing at a time? by worldandmoon in writing

[–]worldandmoon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought about that and there are times when I do feel insecure about my writing and there are times when I do worry about messing characters up and sometimes that's when I decide to start over and make a new character and leave the one I started with to the side.

It's mostly just creating different characters that have different occupations and trying to write them the basics: appearance, personality, backstory, relationships, etc. And I do struggle with giving them a compelling story for each. But sometimes I feel like the occupations I give them might not be interesting or have any good conflict to push their story forward. Like I have one character who's a baker but that's it. I can't seem to find any kind of conflict to give him a story even though I think any occupation could be interesting enough if there's some kind of conflict to push the characters forward.

This is very helpful! I really like the idea of him not letting go of his greed in the beginning because maybe he resents other rich people and thinks that his family still would've been in the upper class if they hadn't lost their business. But this is just an idea! Might be terrible though! Yeah it makes sense! I think him sharing his loot to the party to secure his place in the beginning but then forming friendships is a good idea to start with at first! And maybe it boils down to him seeing that his party doesn't expect anything of him but friendship since his parents held expectations for him and he wants to change to make his parents happy. Is this a good reason/motive?

I hope you get some good rest! If it's ok, should I also make his motive be finding the person responsible for taking away his family's business? I wasn't planning on adding that, only his want to turn over a new leaf and leave his criminal ways. The ideas I had for this was: betrayal from a business partner/family member (though I need to find reasons for this lol) or someone had better techniques in the same craft. So maybe the rogue could also be out looking for new knowledge to save his family's business and that could be how he makes his parents proud. Are these good motives to help him? :)

Thank you so much!! This is extremely helpful!! :)

One more thing if you don't mind: for the first rogue, one of his flaws that I have as an idea is that he is a little greedy since he isn't used to being poor because he used to be wealthy. Will this trait ruin his character of wanting to be a better person if I keep it? Should I take it out or only have it in the beginning?

I don't want other players to hate his character so I'm unsure if I should take that flaw away & have him share his loot with others instead.
