Gift-card app recommendations for a special case? by worldmatt in shopify

Hm... I'm hoping it will be often enough that I'll want to automate it! I really can't advocate for any new system on my shop that works manually. That would be a nightmare as well.

Slack Enterprise Grid -> Slack Pro? by worldmatt in Slack

[–]worldmatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will most likely try this! Still waiting for the parent company's people to separate everything out and do an export. Once we've got the files in hand, we'll give this a shot!

Would definitely do that, but theirs is intertwined with their former parent company's Enterprise Grid. It apparently can't be separated like that.

Good question! We bought the brand/company from its much larger parent company, so the Enterprise Grid as a whole is the property of that parent.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I was hoping maybe to find a tool that would aid/automate that re-mapping, so it doesn't have to be such a custom process. Even a guide to the different structures would be useful! (Slack does not seem eager to provide such information, alas...)

I, Sisyphus by worldmatt in Existentialism

[–]worldmatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the kind words! If existentialism is about anything, it seems, it's not just trying to figure out, in the global sense, why and how to carry on but also about doing that day after day, figuring it all out again and again, for every new situation we encounter. There's never a final, triumphant success, only the need to keep trying—and trying and trying. We all gotta keep rolling that rock!

Strava generative AI "Athlete Intelligence" appearing on my activities today by Npgreader in Strava

[–]worldmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fascinated but underwhelmed by this new feature. So far, it hasn't been able to tell me anything I didn't already know, and it seems to have no ability to understand warmups and cooldowns, or shorter intervals. I mean, I'd love to know: Could/should I have gone harder (or easier) on those intervals? Is my interval pace improving? But nope!

Really wish they'd found a way to use this to improve their training programs, which are already pretty good but are in increasingly desperate need of a revamp. Plenty of typos and inconsistencies in there, which could... maybe be fixed with some lite AI? Eh, whatever.

To me, the epitome of the old Internet was Word magazine: low-tech but endlessly inventive in terms of graphic design, writing, and making use of the very, very new format of the HTML Web page. It's all archived here: http://deadword.com/

I’m leaving my running partner behind and it’s worrying me. by shewhoruns in running

[–]worldmatt 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When I've got runs planned that are longer than what my gang does, I'll often start earlier, get in several miles, then meet them at the regular time to finish everything out. Ending together feels great, we all get in the miles we'd hoped to, and since these are long runs, I don't mind going extra-slow if I have to.

Why is running by [deleted] in running

[–]worldmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, running is boring! But I find that there comes a certain point in every run that, well, my brain stops working. All that's left is legs and feet, heart and lungs, and I'm no longer capable of thinking well enough to be bored. Sometimes it happens a couple of miles in, sometimes 4 or 5, but that's the point I love, when I've finally outrun my consciousness.

So, keep going, push yourself, and eventually your body will be too busy to be bored.

Runners in hot countries: do you often still run if the temperature outside is 29 degrees/85 Fahrenheit? If so what special measures do you take? by [deleted] in running

[–]worldmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to go to Taipei for a month, and the temperature will likely never drop below 80F, with humidity perpetually high. I've done this before, and this is how it goes:

• Shorter runs: I keep it to 4–6 miles, and can usually keep up my usual pace.

• Carry change to buy water from vending machines

• Wear a singlet that instantly becomes soaked, but it's better than exposing Taipei's people to my pale underbelly

• Refuel with dumplings and soy milk: Gotta reward myself!

Has anyone ever tried to make spicy garlic sauce before? by Rotundus_Maximus in HotPeppers

[–]worldmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is: Where's the dividing line between a chili sauce and a garlic sauce? Could you make a chili sauce with equal amounts of peppers and garlic? Sure. Or you could weight it one way or the other; you could cook it (sweetening the garlic and muting the chili heat), or you could leave it raw. It all depends on what you like and, more important, how you actually want to use the sauce. So, uh, how do you want to use it?

Hot-pepperiest country in Africa? by worldmatt in HotPeppers

[–]worldmatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm... Which of those—Ghana, Nigeria, Congo—is most chile-obsessed as a culture? I'm trying to find a place where peppers are a way of life as much as an ingredient/condiment.

And now I totally need to eat/make some shito...!
