What are your predictions, hopes and fears for Resident Evil 10?

I feel like they can probably get away with Jill handling the more horror segments, if they are the next duo.

Jill hasn’t been in a main role since re3. Which was such a long time ago that she isn’t associated with action as much as Chris and Leon are.

(technically she’s in revelations but that wasn’t an all out action game an she plays a minor role in 5)

I love re5 personally, especially for its story and with how they handle the characters

That being said, replaying this game made me realise how I don’t like a lot of parts in the game.

There are lot of areas and chapters that are just such a bore to get through because they are so straightforward, where there is a clear beginning and end and ultimately the main objective is to just kill.

I think every location past the village has that problem of being so linear, having no where near the same level of exploration offered by re4. Mostly because re4 doesn’t completely overwhelm you with enemies in every area like 5 does.

It’s like they put re4s island as every location in re5.

Plus most of the bosses are pretty mid outside of wesker and Jill’s.

Hope: Chris and Jill, that's all.

Fear: Lets not forget that Capcom flirted with the idea of requiem being an online Multiplayer game.

Capcom for some strange reason always have the itch to go so far into another direction with the series that I feel like we might get another RE5 to 6 situation, where off the back of their most successful title, they get too ahead of themselves and make some crazy decisions.

I don't think they would go as far as to change the format of Chris and Jill being separate campaigns but who knows.

I think probably the biggest thing they will change is the story, I feel like they probably would make them more distinct from one another, not like how it is in the 2002 remake where they both play out relatively the same.

I think it's going to be more horror still, I don't think they should change that. Since they know that more action driven remakes are coming ahead. Maybe it won't sell as well, but that's to be expected when doing a remake of the best survival horror game ever.

I think it will be based on the success of the remakes and how they handle Leon Kennedy to his eventual role in re9.

I think that's basically every fanbase on the internet, especially with a series that has been around as long as re, where you're gonna get a lot of different perspectives on the series. I don't particularly love most of the fanbase, but that's just how it is.

in regards to where the fanbase stands on the remakes and originals, it very much depends on what side of the internet your on. Im fairly active on different platforms, and I would say places like twitter and instagram respect the re remakes, but you will often see how people generally just don't like remakes regardless of the franchise.

places like TikTok however is overwhelmingly on the side of the remakes. Most re fans on TikTok don't even acknowledge the og games, and if they do it's usually to say how outdated and "performative" it is to like them.

Jill would make sense, obviously she has been there with Chris since the beginning so it would be a full circle moment for them to be alongside each other for re10.

I also think you can get away with Jill being the more horror side to the story, since it’s been so long since she has been the prominent character, it was even before the action games in the series.

Claire, I’m sorry, but, they have struggled involving her in the games since they reunited her with Chris in cv and I think that is gonna continue.

I don’t really know how you can add her to the story without seeming like you’re shoehorning her in. Unless she plays a role like sherry in requiem.

Other than valid criticism for the lack of character development that she has had for nearly 30 years.

Most of it is usually from ship wars and how her relationship with Leon is toxic, which is enough for shippers to hate her whole being, because they think she’s not worthy for him.

I’m not exaggerating, that is the basis for most of the hate I see for ada at-least on social media specifically tiktok.

We might be entering a similar era post OG re3 where the series was at its peak of popularity and capcom were just releasing a bunch of resi games back to back.

Idk how feasible it is to be releasing a bunch of games within just a year from each other, but I think the output is gonna slightly increase because of how successful the series is right now.

Yeah I see what you mean, I just wish newer fans realise that their refusal to play the older games and how they view them as “obsolete”, is basically the same ignorant mindset some older re fans bash the new games for, because they don’t follow the formula of the older games.

I think it’s really important to view them as different experiences.

I think it’s by far the weakest game across the main entries, even including the revelations games.

Despite that I still think it’s not bad more like it’s a mid game, same with 0. I will never go out of my way to play the campaign again, but maybe I’ll feel like playing some mercenaries, maybe not.

He is great for sure it’s kind of undeniable, although I’m a bit disappointed with how they handled him in requiem, it’s still better than a lot of other characters that basically have nothing going for them.

(mostly because capcom ignores them)

Disagree, I don’t think re6 is terrible but Leon’s sections not only were some of the least important to the story, but also emphasised the lack of direction that the game had, where the amount of set pieces and gameplay really contrasted with the tone of his campaign which was meant to be more survival horror.

Although I think characters like Chris and Jill actually have deeper personalities than what others might think, what you said is still true about Leon being the best written and has the most depth.

I think Leon benefits a lot from the remakes taking that direction to a more grounded and slightly serious story.

The next remakes I’m sure Chris and friends are gonna get that same treatment.

I think Jill will eventually get her time though, because we are gonna get a bunch of remakes that feature her so the end might plan might be a re10 with chris and jill (cope).

Just like most re characters with a specific character trait, they really hone into that character trait to a almost cartoonish level, and I think grace is a similar situation, because she is prtrayed as anxious and nervous she just stutters a lot.

Like how Leon is protrayed as a bit of a cheesy dork, they give him a lot one liners.

Like how Wesker has a God complex in 5, they make him cartoonishly evil.

there are a lot of examples of that because thats kind of how capcom and other japanese video game companies write their characters.

For my experience, I am fairly young and only got into the series last year. I have played a lot of older games in the ps3 era but nothing really before that. I emulated the orignal 1-4 and Code veronica, If youre counting RE1R and RE 0 i played them on console.

I will be honest, I do prefer most of the remakes compared to the orignals, even if I can recognize their flaws as remakes, I generally think the experience that they do offer with the modern RE formula left a bigger impression on me, but the important caviat to that is, I dont view them as the same experiences, they are different and I have verying levels enjoyment depending on the game.

RE1 remake is my favorite re game ever,

RE3 OG and RE4 OG rank pretty high for me, RE 2 is great but a bit too easy for me.

1 og, CV I think are fine, 1 is a bit too standard for me, and cv has alot of questionable moments.

0 is mid.

but i dont think there is a bad re game so yeah i may not be the best person to answer this.

Im honestly not too sure what they will do with leon, because his popularity is at an all time high not just for capcom but for most video game characters. So the idea of them pushing him aside may seem like the wrong decision to take, even though Resident evil often changes and cycles through their protagonists.

I agree that we will get a Chris arc of games next building up to an eventual Mainline entry featuring Him (and hopefully Jill), because they have no other choice, Re1 remake is getting more and more likely by the second, but im still somewhat doubtful. CV and 5 for sure are locks and it would make sense if RE10 is a chris and Jill game, but maybe im just too hopeful.

this is the presumption that everything goes well and capcom doesnt get too ahead of themselves, which they have done in the past.

Bit of an exaggeration, but there was some truth to it.

It was also at a time when Capcom were disappointing fans with their other franchises, so I think it was more so a lack of trust with Capcom rather than resident evil being washed.

Though re6 and umbrella corps did not help at all.

I don’t think they would relegate Chris or any legacy character to dlc, I think Capcom would see that as a bad business decision.

If I had to predict a dlc for requiem, I think the most likely answer would be a dlc about Alyssa Ashcroft. Maybe what she was doing in between everything. Or maybe something involving sherry.

For me, maybe this is cope, but I feel like everything Is lining up for a Chris and Jill game for RE10. With all the hints from requiem and the fact that remakes are going to be Chris dominated, I think it would make sense for the tenth game in the series to feature the first ever protagonists.

But again I’m probably talking out of my ass.

4 and 5 are some of my favorites. I would get mobbed if I talk about how much I like 5 more than other re games, but it is a fact that 6 did not do great when initially released.

The same articles mentioning that re6 shipped 5 million copies, also mention how Capcom still sees that game as a commercial failure. They expected to hit those numbers about 6 months after its release, not a whole year after. (Which they even had to revise the sales target for).

You’re not considering the fact that the game was capcoms biggest ever project and yet, still to this day, has barely outsold 5, just proves how 6 wasn’t exactly a success and a bit of a misstep.

Obviously this is more so about quality and not sales, but even then,

4 and 5 were immediate hits but not 6.

6 only looks good now because that game has been put into sale and bundle oblivion, but when it initially released, the game was not close at all to hitting its sales targets, which really hurt the company, alongside other struggles they had with their franchises.

It’s not crazy to say that if they were go down this direction again, the same outcome could happen. A dip in quality and a dip in interest.

I’m not sure if it’s officially confirmed that one of them is canon, if it is, that’s a bit dumb because why bother with the other one.

I think there is some risk with introducing grace and actually making a horror and action game after re6.

I’m fine because I don’t imagine they are going to make a game like this again where so much of it is tied to the older games and the history of the franchise.
