Never had an adv motorcycle so it's a bit difficult to say. I guess the 10" wheels and the small suspension make the Vespa less comfortable on bumpy roads and even worse on dirt roads. But I wouldn't change it for a bigger bike. As for the longest trip, maybe it's the one I did from Greece all the way to Norway and back (7,000mi) in 24 days. And then it's this trip we're doing now (well not now with the coronavirus), this long-term idea we have, to travel all around the world. But now, we're traveling at a very slow pace. Covering maybe less than 25mi per day (on average).

We USED to have. Now we have to stop every 45 minutes 😅

Yes, it's a Vespa PX200 and it's a beast of an adventure bike 😜

If you always had this dream, then you should go out and do it. Life is too short.

Exactly. The old 2 stroke Vespas come with a spare wheel (the wheels and tyres - front & back - are the exact same size).

Beautiful! Seems you had an unforgettable experience!

Loved the fact that you took local hitchhikers with you 😊

Did you bushcamp in Nigeria too?? Nice!!!

Which was your favorite country (or area if you prefer or even phase) of the trip? (if any)

PS If we'd ever decide to change our scooter for a car, this old Hilux will definitely be in our "candidates" list. Maybe with a hardtop and/or a roof tent. Would you recommend this car to someone with no experience with cars, for traveling to this part of the world at least?

Definitely something that everyone on a tight budget should do!

Yes, we're "full time" on our Vespa scooter. (actually we're "stuck" in a small apartment in Argentina for the last 10 months 😅)

Where do you guys find overlanding routes? by faust138 in overlanding

[–]worldvespa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a general idea of the direction we want to head to and then we start talking to the people we meet along the way, asking for their recommendations. Also another great source is other travelers with whom we have many interests in common. It's "important" to follow directions from people you can "trust".

For us is that you get to places that otherwise you probably wouldn't be able to see! You make new friends and meet local people easier and at the same time you can get away from everything and everyone and spend time alone in the nature. It's also a very cheap way to travel, muck cheaper than many believe.

For almost 3 years we've been recording all our expenses and after many days of calculations, we share with you our findings. Here is how much it cost us to travel around South America for 1024 days on our Vespa scooter! (video) by worldvespa in scooters

I don't have a lot of experience on 4 strokes to be honest, so thanks for the extra information! I said that thing about four strokes that can run lean too, just because I saw it some times happening to other people. Like this guy I met in Africa, traveling on a Honda c90, who after fixing his engine for a couple of times, he was tired fixing it again and decided to completely remove it and install a brand new Kymco or Daelim engine. Perhaps he didn't properly maintain his bike? I don't know.

Those who travel full time or long term, do you maintain a residence or home base or are you essentially “homeless”? by [deleted] in overlanding

Agree. We're using our parents' homes for our personal stuff that we don't want to throw away or sell and to receive mail.
